Subwoofer frequency response capabilities are determined by motor mass, coil design, and enclosure type; heavier motors with more copper (like the D2 coil) enable lower frequency reproduction (27 Hz), while enclosure volume and tuning frequency significantly impact bass output characteristics, with sealed boxes requiring approximately 3 cubic feet and ported boxes around 2.5 cubic feet for optimal performance.

Recoil Audio 15" 15in Subwoofer Echo Pro PW series PW15 PW15D2 PW15D4 MAP: $250 Review by Robot
Added:Big boy. Big boy. Big boy. This is the big boy, the PW series Echo Pro. So, I did reviews on the PW8, which is good down to about 34 hertz. Uh, I did a review on the PW10, which is good to 30 Hz. The PW12 is good down to 27 hertz.
And before I went on my little vacation, um, uh, Edge sent me the the detailed reports and asked me if these were good.
And I said, "Yeah." I said, "But the market has actually changed since then." So, there's a lot of guys that want to run these free air and they want to play them to to hit the first octave, which I don't agree with, but I'm like, "Whatever." You know, if that's what you guys want to do, that's what you want to do. It's like if if people want to uh you know masturbate to teddy bears, I'm like, "All right, I'll sell you the I'll sell you rub a glove at least so that you're sanitary." So, uh but this one, the dual 2 plays to 27 hertz. The dual 4 plays to I think 28 or 29. So, because the D2 coil is a little got a little bit more copper, it's a little heavier. So, that's the one I wanted to do the review on. Uh the these have an MAP of only $250.
And if you get it from me, I can get you a box delivered for only $150.
So, we got the manual.
Uh, please zoom to the back.
Uh, let's see.
Uh, yeah, it goes through here. That's a little off, but that's fine.
Uh, let's see. It's saying 27 on the D4 and then 24 on the D2.
Oh, that's the 12. And then so the D4 is 25. Again, that's not the test results that I saw, but maybe they after they break in because after they break in, they're going to get softer. So maybe they did a a breakin and they came up with these. Again, Recoil has been really good about um being exact on that because um they they know that they are under scrutiny. So, like um one of the things I'll do the review on today because I'm going to do a the 2026 uh catalog with you guys is they came out with uh the M series as in marine uh mic. Um, the M series is supposed to go up against the HD series from JL and the the subwoofer amp they came out with they called it the M1800 and then after some testing they were like we can't get it to hit 1,800 watts and so they changed it to 1700 and I was like good thank you thank you for doing that because you know you get uh reviewers like Big D who are like you know he'll wag his finger at you but again it doesn't really matter especially even if it's 1,800 with 1700 it. It's not going to be an audible difference, but you want to look at the price. Again, compare these to the JL Audio HD or whatever whatever else is out there that is comparable. So, these would be comparable to like a W6. Uh the W6 they rate at about 600 750 watts. I think these are good for about 800 watts RMS. See what it says. Yeah, 800 on the 15. So, again, that's a conservative rating. It's not super conservative. So, probably max is going to be 850 900 watts RMS, but that of course depends on your box. If you put it in a small sealed box, which these are good for because the FS is so low, uh, meaning that you can go down to the VAS and it's it's still going to hit the FS. Uh, if that makes any sense. And again, I I wish they would stop listing these in liters. Um, so the D2, which is a little bit heavier, has a VAS of 114 L. And then the D4 is 134 L. So kind of have something in between, let's say 120 L.
Uh, convert that to cubic feet and you end up with about 4 and 1/2 cubic foot.
Uh, let's see what it recommends for ported 3.53, which is pretty close. Again, you don't if you don't want to get down to, you know, below 30 Hz, if you don't want to get down to 25 Hz, you can actually tune up about 32, 33, 34, 35, 36, uh, in that area to get more kick out of it, more punchiness. Um, and it'll the if you look on the response curve, if you plug these specs in to your box modeling program, you'll see when you change like let's say you make the box 4 and 1/2 cubic foot, then as you change the tuning frequency, it'll be it'll go from flat to more raised the higher up you squeeze it, the higher up you tune. So again, uh, yeah. So, uh, you can do a sealed box of about 3 cubic foot, I I imagine. Let's see what they recommend. 2.47. Yeah, that's really good. Um, to be conservative, I would actually put these on par with like a Rockford P3. So, because it's a 2 and 1/2 and technically the uh uh W6 is a 2 and 3/4. Not that that matters much, but it is what it is.
This motor is significantly heavier than the 12 in. So, that is a nice little surprise. Um, I'm actually going to contact the manufacturer to start importing a copy of this. Um, I've always wanted to do a black label for you guys. Not that this isn't, you know, this is I love I love that that it's discreet badging, but again, I want to erase that so that I can sell this to you guys for $250 and then you can go sell it for $500. Especially the home theater freaks. These things are fantastic in home theater. So, and I would just do a Yeah, I would just do a generic boot or no boot at all. I'd keep the 8 gauge uh push terminals, maybe change to four four gauge if I really wanted to. Everything else is the same.
uh uh stamp steel frame. Uh it's bolted down to the spider landing so it won't come loose. Uh it's got a large foam surround. Um [snorts] and then it uses a No, it's a poly cone. It's a very thick poly cone. It's very strong. Um it would be [sighs] probably as thick as like a Solo X thick type of plastic. And then it's got a plastic cone. So again, the woofer doesn't care if it's plastic or or or uh I was going to say wood, but it's paper.
Um it just cares about how heavy the moving mass is. And I think actually the moving mass is a little too heavy for my taste. But if you guys like this and you like the sound and you want to be able to play down to really really low, like I said, I recommended this as a home theater sub, home theater replacement. I think it would be fantastic in that. In fact, I think the motor is large enough to do an 18inch version. And so I'd love to import that and then that way we'd sell it for like probably 200 200 220 shipped something like that for Oh wait oops sorry about that. I guess I guess if I'm selling this for 250 we got to sell it for more than [laughter] that.
Let's do 250 or wait no this is 250. So let we'll do it for 275. How's that? So 275 for an 18inch version [laughter] in the real world. That's actually how the pricing works. You just kind of make up. So, but um uh I don't like this frame because it's offset on the terminals. If you see the terminals like that. Um and so then the the the I'll use a different frame. It's not a big deal. So, stickers coming off a little bit. This one is uh branded uh recoil anyway. So, but they will I I there's a bunch of frames that you can choose. I'll probably choose like a sundown uh frame that looks like the U series, which is this is very similar to that. Um, and it's got the below uh spider venting. It's got the rear port.
It's very good. Just basic stickers. Uh, I wouldn't even I'd maybe do like a say I don't even like doing a generic sticker where it just has the the parameters. Um, if anything, I would just do the TSPS and then and then maybe some sort of um actually let's let's use blackjack.
We'll do it as the blackjack so that way you guys have a reference to it. And so I'll have the the blackjack audio uh website or even just Instagram. I don't even need a website. um Instagram and um and then it'll have uh you can do a little QR code to go to that exact um priced item on Instagram and then um I think Instagram still has yeah they have a shop now too where you can sell stuff and so we would have it as the retail price and so that that would be something that you would give your uh retail client. So, but you know me. So, you would get it for whatever. Let's What did we say? 275. So, you get the 18 for 275, you get the 15 for 250, and then you should be doubling your your money. So, in fact, I would do the MSRP on this one as uh $5.99.
And then you give them the good guy price at $500. And then that's not including enclosure and a bunch of other stuff. So, again, that's how the whole system works. Um, I'm sorry that it pisses off a lot of people. I'm sorry that you've been being ripped off for a hundred years. Um, but that's that's how the system works. And of course, it's a very fragile system because a lot of people can just go, "Well, we're just going to go to you, Patrick." And I go, "Well, that's fine, too. I that's what I want to do for you guys. I want to be able to host this stuff in our new warehouse in Texas and drop ship even for you guys." So, what I'm going to do is actually order these blank or better yet with just the inner cap. And then later on, we can do a concave cap. We can do a convex cap. and we'll keep all the caps and the other parts in the warehouse. And then what we do is we fulfill to your order. So basically I would be the OEM uh act as the OEM and then drop ship on your behalf directly to your client with your return address.
Does that make sense? Again, nobody's doing this. I don't know why they're not doing this. Uh it probably has a lot to do with just space. Um because you need a lot of cheap space in order to do something like that. And that's what I want to be able to provide for you guys.
So, [snorts] um, you want to guys want to do wolfer porn? Let's do wolfer porn. Sorry you missed out on the the other day on the the seven magnet one. Um, my my phone had died and um I I had to charge it and then I fell asleep and then I woke up the next day and I was like, "Oh, I got to go meet this guy." And so I just put it in the car and left. But hang on real quick.
Let's get a little closeup on some of the details. You can see and it is a it looks like I'll say it looks like it looks like it's a beefy 2 and 1/2 inch coil. I'm thinking like the two and 5/8. So something like a a DDX um like but a stamped frame. So, this is basically a DDX SCAR DDX on a stamped frame that looks, I think, a bit more um finished than a lot of the Scar subs.
So, but again, there's so many great subwoofers out there now, and I hope to be the guy that helps you either point you in the right direction of just not paying so much anymore, uh or actually selling you something. So either way, I'm happy. There's a little bit of the venting on the outside. Um, I just want to give you I just want to help you solve your problems and not spend so much money. That's all. Oh, it's a two-piece.
Is that paper? I think it might be paper.
Yeah, actually. My bad. It felt like It felt like poly.
I have to look it up. And either way, it's two-piece.
It's like the old um what is it? Type X uh where the they shim up the smaller cone and then they just put the dust cap on. The dust cap acts as also the cone face. So I would just do I like this finish. This is fine. I would just do it minus the badge.
So or do the little blackjack audio badge instead. Um which which is just clip art that I found on the on the internet. I go generic clip art for um uh like the like cards like you know for for the jack and I came up with that and I was like okay good enough. [laughter] So but that's the idea of blackjack is where I just act as a um [snorts] I don't want to say shill but [laughter] when I get really honest about it that's what it is. Um it's just a a a point of reference to say that this is what it's worth. And so if anybody ever wants to go behind your back and they look it up themselves, they go, "I want to look it up." And then you go, "Oh, it is $500." And I and I will sell it to you for $500. But um mostly I just want to go through you guys and I'd rather have 2,000 dealers than 10 dealers. So that's that's my theory. Um, but again, I want to have a solar punk village where you guys can visit and do training and build stuff and then find property in your neck of the woods and get sustainable and geothermal cooling and all that kind of stuff. Um, barbar is good for keeping out uh zombies as well. So, I love you guys. I will talk to you later. Again, uh map on this is $250. You can text me direct 62-312-6504.
Let me know your name and your shipping address. I will add you to the phone and then we can go over your options.
