Inside the Latest JKIA–ABC Works | New Bus Bay,Drainage & Sidewalks

[00:00:10]My name is and today I'm back to check out side of ABC upgrade. As usual, this place really excites me and I'm always looking forward to when this place is going to be complete and functioning. So guys, a lot is happening on this section. There is a new development. So, please don't miss out. I'm going to start with that, by the way, and I'm going to end with one of my favorite places in this particular section. So, let's do it. [00:00:55]Uh we are on the outskirts of the NY roundabout just right there.

[00:01:01]And then we have the stadium right there. And I want to show you the progress of the JK to ABC upgrades that have been happening on this side.

[00:01:14]Uh so far so good. I'm realizing there is a lot of shifting when it comes to bus stops. Uh because I think of the way they're moving. So this is the shell petrol station. Usually just here. So the other side when I would come I'll cover a lot the other side of Oh my god. My foot was just about to go in this place. Like literally Yeah, that is scary. Like my foot literally was about to go inside this hole.

[00:01:49]Anyway, so um that area is literally complete and the whole place they were working on the pedestrian walkways and the drainage and then here they working they were working on the seaw storm drainage and the lights. So let's see how it's going. I can see they completed the culverts are already in place and uh they're finalizing on the finishing. This is how it looks like.

[00:02:21]So, usually these places will act as bus stops too. I can see they've uh moved a few people who are here selling food stuff. So, this is how the place looks like. Uh the last time I was here, this is the this is the section they were working on this whole section.

[00:02:42]So underneath it we have a lot that is going on just to prevent flooding and also for seage purposes. And now on this particular end they're working on the pedestrian walkways uh clearly cuz already the materials are here. So guys I'm just on the other side of uh the NYO uh bus stop which is literally there just cross over and uh this is how work is going on right here.

[00:04:23]So this place usually is a bus stop in as much as it's a small section currently because this is where people are standing. Uh I can see they're still managing.

[00:10:20]He's the one who's dealing with all this. So, they're saying they're curing uh whatever is material is under here so that it can, you know, it can hold or something of the sort. And they're not touching the trees. And this place has such a beautiful canopy of trees. Yeah.

[00:10:36]So vehicles coming round the roundabout from town will be coming down here and there'll be a a shade right here uh coming up to here. People will be standing underneath the shade on the side and this is where the circle mats will be. All the mats fly in this route and they'll be exiting using that uh route. So, there'll also be a walkway right here. And uh I've just been told I can walk just to be careful.

[00:11:03]So, this is what it looks like underneath underneath it. And they're going to be doing this for 7 days. He was kind enough to explain to me the process. The terminologies are what usually, you know, I I miss the terminology sometimes cuz when you're on the ground, there are very few people who are willing to talk to you. But he was able to tell me like right now whatever is happening right there that compaction and uh yeah they're not touching the trees. I'm glad. I'm glad. So this place is going to be is going to be to to to have changed a lot in a few months to come. Like that's the water bowser right there doing its job. Yeah. Let's continue walking down guys. The water bowser. Oh, I love it when I know terminologies. Guys, when you come to my comment section, please I love learning.

[00:11:54]Give me all the terminologies that go into this construction of infrastructure, you know, civil. I know I have specialists in some of these areas. For me, I I'm always very open and I usually say like, yeah, let's learn, teach me. I know I can go online and also do my own stuff which I try to do but uh the terminology civil engineers you know like for her for him he's told me he's a surveyor lovely job by the way so this is a water bowser they're still uh curing the ground they'll do this for 7 days like he said and this is where they currently are and they'll be progressing this is just focusing on the bus park bay that is coming up Huh. Beautiful.

[00:12:46]Vehicles being on the road is such a big nuisance.

[00:12:54]It's this material. I think I saw the same material at Casarani Stadium, but this is for a different purpose. And this is how it looks like. Yeah. I love seeing ladies at work. Hi So this is where they are and we can just go down a bit. These are quite old trees and I'm so happy that they're preserving them.

[00:13:21]And this is what is here in readiness to be laid compaction. I'm really excited to to to learn a few terminologies on the ground curing, you know, water bows.

[00:13:44]So, here we are uh near the Shimo Law Road along Nayo and he tells me that it will still be a bus stop but on the other side. Yeah. So, they want it to look, you know, cute.

[00:14:02]Cute, cute, cute, cute. Quite dusty in Nairobi. Uh, as you can see, but this is where they are. So guys, um, I want to join this video with a different section that I told you earlier that I mean that I'm usually interested to see the progress whenever I'm down here on the ground.

[00:14:21]And uh, I'm just going to walk up until there. But let me just show you the deck of expressway.

[00:14:30]That's how the deck looks like.

[00:14:35]So, I'm yet to really figure out when they're going to start working on the like a lot of us are all waiting, but so far so good. So, let's just go back and check out the section that I'm always talking about.

[00:16:20]These are the old seawward drains as you can see.

[00:16:29]And this is what's coming up. This is the new this is the new development.

[00:16:37]I love the contrast.

[00:16:39]So, let's walk. Let's see exactly how far they are.

[00:16:45]I was here I guess a month ago and this is what we're trying to read because literally we are in Nairobi you know the central Nairobi on major two major highways two major roads Langata road and Mombasa road and this is what people have had to contend with on in this particular area so it's some extensive work. Yeah, I can see something is happening here. It's some extensive work to have to work around this mess.

[00:17:39]So, from the way I'm seeing things come down, uh, looks like there may be a bus stop that will come up here cuz this is where people stop to get vehicles. But so far, this is how the development is on the ground. Yeah.

[00:18:01]on Mombasa road heading to just on the outskirts of N station.

[00:18:07]Yeah. So, let's take a walk. If you remember last I was here, the other side is also being worked on. Yeah. The other side of this place.

[00:18:17]So, a lot of work is going on and um they're going to put the covers right here. It's the same same uh formula, same same pattern. Yeah, they're going to put uh the covers right here. Once they put the covers, they're going to work on the pedestrian walkways on that other end. And that's just it. Yeah.

[00:18:45]It's going to be a beautiful Nairobi once you come from JKA all the way down.

[00:18:51]Yeah. Remember guys, anything that's happening along Mombasa road is part of the JK to ABC upgrade.

[00:19:00]Yeah. That started early this year in March. And it's quite an extensive job because you know you can see raw green sea which oh my once the the reflection the sun hits that water the reflection is just green.

[00:19:16]The reflection is just literally green.

[00:19:19]But now here we are.

[00:19:23]I couldn't walk on the other side because I had no idea where what is ahead of me. But I can see they are they're already putting the covers.

[00:19:31]Hopefully everything now will be flowing on this particular side.

[00:19:38]And then uh this route here is going to be extended. But already looking at the main Mombasa road on this side. I feel like cyclists can have a can have their their side here cuz the road is big enough. Cycling lines can easily be integrated on this way if pedestrians are to be on that side. What do you think, guys? What do you think?

[00:20:09]Yeah. Or can we integrate cycling lanes inside under this deck of the expressway? I feel we can.

[00:20:25]on the expressway there. Yeah. So, we have so many cyclists in Nairobi. As you can see, this is what they have to contain.

[00:20:38]So, the other side is being worked on.

[00:20:40]I'll have to just go around and show you what's happening. But so far, we are on this lane. We are just outside the National Stadium, the outset of it. Quite important. We've always complained about the way this place looks like.

[00:20:56]And finally something is being done.

[00:21:15]So, as you can see, they've already started covering.

[00:21:20]And I just spoke to an engineer behind me and he was telling me that uh look, this is this is impressive.

[00:21:28]This is impressive.

[00:21:31]He was telling me that we are not supposed to be walking on this thing cuz one of my foot literally went through that bit of hole right there and he was telling me we are not supposed to be there. There'll be pedestrian walkways coming up on the side and that's where all of us are supposed to walk cuz they cannot cover those holes. It's part of the It has a purpose when it during rainy season. So when the water maybe fills up somewhere, it overflows through those holes and then goes goes down.

[00:22:05]Yeah. So there's nothing they can do about it. But this is the way this place looks like. Quite a lot of work. Not much activity today because uh maybe they're on the other side. I can see the activity has shifted to the other side which we are going to check out in a few.

[00:22:35]So, uh I can see these particular blocks are not quite aligned.

[00:22:44]Someone was just about to dip on them.

[00:22:47]But well, we are not supposed to be walking on them.

[00:22:52]um a section that will be hosting us is coming up as pedestrians.

[00:22:57]So that's what I'm also looking forward to just the completion of this project.

[00:23:27]Part of the JK to ABC upgrades, pedestrian walkways, drainage, seiwa, storm water and all. Wow, guys. There's a lot that's happening on the other side. I cannot wait to show you.

[00:23:44]A lot is happening. I can already see the changes from the last time I was here. Yeah. So, I'm literally even just so anxious I'm walking quickly.

[00:24:00]So, this is the outskirts of Nayo. Still a lot of work to be done. I think the whole beautifification aspect of it, what I'm waiting for is uh the greening of the of the route. I want to see the plants they're going to come up with.

[00:24:17]Botanical experts, you can talk to me in the comments. What do you think would be best for this particular place? We want something that will be green throughout the year and that will last.

[00:24:34]No seasonal plants by the way. Yeah.

[00:24:39]Seems we missed that with the deck of the expressway. These plants do dry up sometimes.

[00:24:46]But so far, so far, so far guys, I'll have to cross ahead of me there.

[00:24:54]So everything we are preserving the trees. That's the one thing I love the about projects that are happening under this government cuz I remember there was a time some of these projects especially along Pika road and the expressway was and When Pika Highway was coming up, there was a lot of destruction when it came to plants. Yeah.

[00:25:30]So, we cross over and see what's happening on the other side.

[00:25:50]So this is the size of the project on this section.

[00:26:02]So I finally managed to cross but I have another way to go.

[00:26:22]So, we are here. The last time I was here, they had not really worked on this other side. So, I think it ends right about there. And uh where from where I'm standing we come all the way now this is where all the activity has shifted I think majorly because the other side is just you know covering up and the lights so like I showed you last time we have the old drainage here whatever this was supposed to be I don't know whether it should be integrated and then we are just right outside highway mall CRBC at work. Yeah. So, let's just So same same exact pattern like we talked about guys you know non-motorized transport definitely this is the whole project uh for nonmotorized uh transport so we have uh for the access here for the visually impaired and uh the bricks are red here same same pattern I think it's just um the whole aspect about patterns is that you want to create uniformity and uniformity overall is is a beauty of its own kind.

[00:28:06]So that is just the warning sign for vehicles turning that uh roundabout corner and this is where we are. Yeah.

[00:28:36]So definitely walkway is right here. And this place, like I said, I felt like it's also big enough to have a cycling lanes. I don't know whether they thought about it, but anyway.

[00:32:26]But now I'm starting to realize like yes, this is how things were supposed to be.

[00:32:33]Even though I feel like a few things had to be rushed here and there, but now we know it's possible.

[00:32:42]It's possible, guys. It's possible to do this. It's possible to give dignity to the Moni like I'm squeezing on the side of the road. And this is has this has always been the case. It has always been the case. Like I'm not even surprised.

[00:32:59]That's why I'm excited about having our own designated walkways, pedestrian walkways. The fact that we were building for vehicles, machinery, that's just it's starting to startle me right now how unaware we were that we deserve space in all this infrastructure.

[00:33:25]So, it's quite Yeah, I don't know how safe I am.

[00:33:41]So, they're telling me they've been told by the police to remove the calls from the road because it's evening and they want to the traffic was building up because of the cons.

[00:34:06]So when I was following that particular section, I thought, yeah, we are here.

[00:34:14]So the con are literally supposed to give space and let the vehicles know that there is work going on here. But the way it's been placed. So anyway, the work is going to continue up until down there. But now you know when they remove the cones that literally means they also not safe because vehicles can easily just a vehicle can easily just dip inside this trench. You get but they tell me the traffic police have asked them to remove the comb. So when I was uh tracing my way when I was tracing my way on the side of it as you can see I had no idea that from that other end I'm going to find the cons having been removed. So I was literally gambling between my life like yeah it's it's really not a good thing.

[00:35:10]It wasn't wasn't interesting at all.

[00:35:12]Anyway, so this is what's happening on this side of Mayo.

[00:35:17]Uh just a little bit of doing away with the branches uh of the trees, but uh preserving the trees in the long run. But this is where they are.

[00:35:55]So that is part of NO that I wanted to show you what's happening here just uh outside Kaf uh the one on the outskirts of N stadium. So, they're moving. It's quite intensive work. Um, I had a few of you complaining about the amount of money allocated to some of these projects. And truthfully, uh, when when you're on the ground, you'll understand. Yeah. We have people who have to get paid and all that. Yeah.

[00:36:35]So I think there's a part of this whereby there's some concrete that was poured and it has to dry up.

[00:36:43]Yeah. So this is where we are.

[00:36:51]So the motorbike guys you see here while I was walking I was just being warned about my gadget and it's become quite a big dig in Nairobi right now.

[00:37:04]But uh you know something we have to live with until the government takes care of that. But uh cyclist, motorbikes using their machines to steal from people.

[00:37:22]Yeah.

[00:37:28]So this is supposed to be the entryway to Kapo which is currently locked but I can see there is another one right there.

[00:37:40]So just hoping that even during the night there is some warning signs. Yeah.

[00:37:46]So guys that has been my video for you today. Quite interesting developments on this side. Yeah. quite interesting developments.

[00:37:56]Uh we are just halfway through the year.

[00:37:59]A lot of these projects started early this year. You have to remember that some of the projects that started last year are complete. We're talking about the Kunji Park. We're talking about a section of the Gumba market. We are talking about uh the newly launched uh the recently launched We are talking about the recently launched uh uh vioduct or uh on junction mall the junction mall just outside there. So slowly by slowly uh we're talking some of uh the affordable houses are complete people are already in.

[00:38:49]A lot of the projects picked up last year, some of them began this year, some have been promised.

[00:38:57]Every like it's work left, right, and center right here in the country Kenya.
