In service businesses, the behavior of the owner significantly impacts customer satisfaction; when owners micromanage, create tension between staff and customers, or replace technicians mid-service, it can ruin an otherwise positive experience, even when the actual service quality is good.

GOING TO THE WORST RATED NAIL SALON IN MY AREA
Added:Linda Garcia says, [music] "They have the rudest service people ever. And when you try to point out what you want corrected, they turn around to talk about [music] you and complain about it in their language to their coworker next to them. They rushed to get to the next person that they kept hurting me and I pointed it out. I complained to the [music] owner and stated I was never going to come back." A customer actually walked out without paying.
>> Ooh, I would not. That's kind of robbing somebody. I don't think I would ever walk out without paying for a service.
That's really insane. But I don't know how bad that experience was.
>> Hello.
>> Hello. Do you guys Do you guys do walk-ins or can I make an appointment?
>> Yeah, you can come walking. We not busy now. How long you be here?
>> Oh, no. I was wondering for tomorrow.
>> Oh, you don't want to come today?
>> I can't today. Can I make an appointment for tomorrow or can I do a walk-in? Oh, what time you want?
>> Uh, do you guys open at 9:00?
>> Yes, >> I can do 9:00.
>> Okay. What's your name?
>> Fanny.
>> Okay. What kind of service do you want?
>> I want to do a full set.
>> Uh-huh.
>> And a pedicure.
>> Okay, no problem.
>> Okay.
>> Yeah. We see you tomorrow night.
>> Okay, sounds good. Okay.
>> Okay.
>> Okay. See you tomorrow.
>> Okay. Bye. See you tomorrow.
Sandra Williams says, "You cannot make me give you and another technician a tip. People tip as they like."
>> Dora D says, "Awful. They all just look at you and ignore you. Don't [music] waste your time."
>> Four people actually ended up liking this review. Pat B actually ended up leaving a pretty lengthy review saying, "I did not want to forget to share this.
[music] The last time I was at this nail shop, Louisie, the owner, Koko's husband, did a no chip on [music] my manicure and pedicure for the third time. I like to relax in the chair with just a simple manicure and pedicure.
This time, I refused to pay for the no chip [music] and paid for the basic.
When I was outside at my car, Koko came running up to me saying, "Why you no tip?" I [music] said, "Why should I tip when this has happened a third time?"
And the other two times I paid and tipped Louis $10. Koko proceeded to tell [music] me that I was not right and walked away. When I opened my car door, she came running out towards me [music] again. But I left in my car. I leave with this. Tipping is not required. It is given if the customer [music] feels as though they are treated well and given great service. Are [music] you engaged in light conversations with the customer? Are you only speaking the [music] language the customer speaks when working? Are you playing music and or [music] television programs that the customer may enjoy? If not, a tip is never required. It should be given if the customer has been treated very well.
Quite a few people seem to actually agree with her review based on likes.
So, I am at the worst fitted nail salon that I could find. And it's like 10 15 minutes before they open, and they've already opened up their door. I'm just like standing in front of it. So, these are my nails right now. They're pretty long. I haven't cut them in a while.
It's officially 9:00 a.m. and I'm going to start heading there now. Hello.
>> What?
>> I have an appointment.
>> Okay. What do you need?
>> I want to get a manicure and a pedicure.
>> Okay. No.
>> Full set. A full set of nails. And I also want French tips on the toes.
>> Uhhuh. Your toast. You want a gel or just regular?
>> Just gel.
>> No tip.
>> No chip. No chip.
>> Okay. French nails. French too, right?
>> Um, no. I have a design in mind. I'll >> show you a picture.
>> Yeah. Yeah.
>> And let me know if you guys can do it.
>> Looks a little complicated.
>> This is what I want.
>> Oh, >> yeah. We can do that. Yeah.
>> Yes. Yes.
>> Okay.
>> Okay.
>> Okay. Yeah. No problem.
>> All right.
>> Okay. Go ahead.
>> Do I do my pedicure first?
>> Oh, yes.
>> Yeah. Okay.
>> Right here.
>> What's this?
>> Oh, it's my camera.
>> I'm filming myself.
>> Is that a problem?
>> Oh, no. No, no. Okay.
>> So, when she confirmed, she just went towards the back. So, I assumed that I had to follow her. She never really told me to follow her, but I just assumed.
And I was waiting there standing as she was speaking to the pedicurist who was sitting down waiting for her next client, me. They were speaking to each other and going back and forth. So, I felt like there was a bit of tension there. And I felt like perhaps the pedicurist didn't [music] want to do that work for me because they just kept going back and forth with my phone, mind you. So, Okay.
>> Yes. Okay. Thank you.
>> I just got my phone out.
>> I don't know what they were talking about, but I think [clears throat] this might be a little complicated.
>> At this point, I had actually thought that they were going to send me out or tell me to turn off my camera because Coco came up to me and she was like, "What is that?" And she was pointing at my camera. But to be fair, I do have a funnyl looking camera. So, she ended up being okay with it with me actually recording myself there. But who I felt wasn't okay with it was the lady doing my pedicure because any time that I moved my camera slightly, she would be like this. And then there was even one point where I flipped over my camera to show like my total process and she just started talking to Coco and saying stuff. [singing] So, I honestly felt like I shouldn't be recording.
>> But at this point, I'm already scared, terrified because the manicurist lady is like looking at me and my camera and making all these comments and they keep talking back and forth and language that I don't understand. So, who knows? Maybe I'm just a narcissist and I think that they're talking about me. But it was quiet when I got in there. Okay.
I wanted to get the clear coat for my French tip pedicure because I want to see if I end up also getting fungus like the customer here. And I will tell you towards the end of this video if I did in fact get fungus or not. I felt like there was a lot of tension between us.
I'm primarily one-sided on her end because I really felt like she just didn't like the fact that I wanted to get these nails done. And on top of that, I was recording myself. But then I felt like she made peace with me by giving me a water bottle when I never asked for one. And she seemed to be kind to me. Like anytime that I had to move my feet, she was like actually kind about it. But I felt like it was fake.
That's how I felt at the moment.
I don't necessarily have any complaints about the manicurist's job necessarily, except for the fact that I did ask for her to fix my French tip, and she only fixed the big toe French tip because I ended up having like a really thick white French tip, which I don't like.
But I was really scared of this lady at this point. So, she failed and cut my nails already. And now she's going to start switching.
>> Eventually, I get on to get my actual full set done. And I get the nicest, sweetest lady, you guys. She was so nice to me [music] since the beginning. She even gave me one of those phone stands so that I could [music] put my phone up there cuz she saw that I had been like trying to read on my phone and she just provided it for me. It was so sweet. She was so kind. Okay, let me see. Small ones still be >> Yeah, I know. [laughter] Everyone always talks about >> How do you [music] turn the light on?
>> I hope I might fake.
>> Oh, really? Oh, that's cool.
>> You make it look easy.
>> Yeah, I >> always get bubbles. [laughter] >> Yeah, make it easy because [clears throat] two hand here we [laughter] can't cancel another one.
That finger little bit off.
>> Sorry. [laughter] >> Third time's a charm.
>> Oh, thank you.
Enjoying your vacation.
>> Still here.
>> Yeah. I need >> me I would adjust [laughter] after >> right I get the more grew here if not do the home >> that's why they come out easy >> this lady was so particular about her art she took her job very seriously I could tell that she cared so much about her artwork because if my nail had like the slightest bit of a bubble from the glue and the actual nail she would start it all over. Like she would remove the nail and try it again and she wouldn't cure it until she got the perfect application on the nail.
>> Okay.
>> Nice.
>> Good job. [laughter] >> Nice.
>> I never had to tell her anything. She just did it herself and she tried to do the best job possible. Anna didn't even wait for me to mention that this nail had an air bubble. She went ahead and drilled some of it off and filled it in.
>> This one pinky one little design for the pinky. No, I think >> I forgot to mention that while I was getting the pedicure, the owner, Coco, ended up asking for my phone again so that she could look at the picture. And she had it for a very, very long time.
And I was actually really scared. It kind of felt like when you show your parents a video and then they start swiping on your camera roll. Like I kept my eyes on her because she never really told me why she wanted my phone. just ask for the picture and then she took off with it. But I figured that she was just looking for the specific colors that were going to be required to complete the artwork. And she in fact was doing that. She would like come back and forth to like confirm that I actually wanted a specific color or if she was stuck between two options, she would make me decide. And I thought that was actually very kind of her. And it was good that she was preparing for it because if you guys saw my previous video of the worst rated nail salon, the owner made me look for all the colors and I was having a really hard time with that. I was actually really glad that she jumped on it instead of me having to stress out about finding those colors.
So, by the time I got to the actual person who was going to be doing my nails, all the colors were already laid out there ready for her to use. And although there were other nail techs available, I think that they wanted me to specifically go with this nail tech.
I think I found out later why.
>> Or actually, can we do like a little bit of cheetah?
>> Little bit thick, right?
>> Oh, cheetah print. I mean, >> for the pinky [music] like a small.
>> Oh, you want That's too thick.
You like uh >> let me see.
>> I like this >> because it for the picture like a thick here.
>> Yeah, that that should be fine.
>> They're okay. I don't like them too thick.
>> But that's that's fine.
>> Yeah. Think about that. We put the painting right now.
Okay.
>> Um, yeah.
I think maybe it just needs a little bit more on the sides.
>> Get the more pink.
>> Mhm.
>> Is that like a marble?
>> Yeah. supposed to be a little bit like a marble.
>> Oh, you want to dry the pink first? Then you want pink dry pink first. I think we done like that cuz I think it's supposed to like resemble a seashell sort of pattern. Pink seashell. It's >> okay.
They okay?
>> Mhm.
>> I would drive fast.
like that.
Looks better now.
>> That's better.
>> I think so. Yeah. [laughter] >> You say that's better.
>> Yeah. I don't know how they make it look like that.
>> They they they are tipped like it thick.
>> Yeah. Like it. [laughter] Look at them.
>> You like that or >> Yeah.
>> Which one you like it? You like it?
>> I do like this one.
>> What is that?
>> That's like a >> Do I put it? Yeah.
>> Yeah. Okay.
>> Yeah, that made a difference.
>> Yeah, because Okay.
>> Yeah.
>> If not, then move. Um, they move a lot.
>> What about the pinky?
>> Pinky.
>> A little bit of cheetah. Just like a small little cheetah.
>> Black.
>> Yes.
>> Wrong.
>> So, as you could see from the picture, it is a very detailed art design that I knew was going to take a while, and I'm sure they also knew it was going to take a while. So throughout the whole process, everything was going great. I was loving the session there. I loved who my nail tech ended up being. She was super kind and I just really trusted her with the design. I didn't feel like [music] I had to keep my eyes on the artwork cuz she genuinely wanted to perfect my nails.
>> When is she going to be finished?
Otherwise, >> why not? It's so hard to work with that.
>> We don't have put that dry.
We have cupcake. Everything was going great until Coco came.
Koku and my nail tech started going back and forth for I didn't realize what the reason was, but apparently there was a client waiting for my nail tech. She was trying to steal my nail tech to do her toes. She wanted her specifically to do her toes. And apparently [music] she had been waiting for an hour because Koko had told her that she would be done.
She take care of you.
>> Thank you. You did a good job.
>> Thank you. Thank you.
>> I understood that my nail tech had told her that she wouldn't be done until like a few hours later. But the nail salon owner, Coco, told her that she would be ready before she even would actually be done with my nails. So, she was getting like very anxious because she had another client waiting on her. And the owner was kind of coming back and forth trying to see if she was almost done when clearly she was not going to be done anytime soon.
7:30 >> first day set 11 I have Thank you.
>> So that's kind of when I felt like the cheetah print design started to flop a bit because she was kind of stressing out and like she wanted to do a good job and she was doing an amazing job up until that point that Koko, her boss, started to like pressure her to hurry up and I really felt bad for her. But I still ended up liking my cheetah print nails. Like I don't think it was a bad job. I just think that under pressure she kind of folded. And girl, I would have too. I honestly would have too.
Cocoa.
>> Small gold.
>> Yeah.
Wait, can we do silver though?
>> Silver?
>> Yeah, I prefer silver.
>> We don't have silver.
>> Oh, isn't it that >> this silver?
>> Yeah, that one's fine.
>> Oh, you want only silver, not gold?
>> Yeah, I prefer silver. Okay. Yeah, that's the one, right?
>> Why' you have to come mess my nail sesh up? Coco came and replaced my nail tech in the middle of the session, and it made me even stress out, too, because I felt so bad for my nail tech that Koko was over here yelling and fighting with her, and I don't like that. I do do not mess with my nail tech lady. She was being so kind. So, at this point, I was actually pretty disappointed in Coco because she was being very mean to my nice nail tech lady. I feel like if she would have just told the other client that she was going to be busy and wouldn't be able to attend her, then she probably wouldn't have waited an hour for her and somebody else could have just done her pedicure. I want to see, actually, I want to see her pedicure. I want to see if it was really worth it. I really do. Like, it better have been like a crazy pedicure artwork thing that couldn't have been done by anyone else but her. Koko took over and honestly, I was very doubtful of her. I didn't think she would be able to complete the work because I had already built this rapport with my nail tech lady [music] and she had to gain my trust.
>> So, anything you don't want a gold?
>> No gold.
>> And uh here we wanted what kind of you want to put it here.
>> Oh, can we just add like a small pearl?
all smaller room for a big curl.
>> She eventually did end up getting my trust because she actually knew what she was doing, which I mean she should, right? Cuz she's Coco, the nail salon owner.
>> Yeah, that is cute, right?
>> Another thing I should mention is that Coco slowly started to throw the hints out that I was doing too much or that I was asking for too much. cuz in the picture that I had shown the pinky and the thumb weren't actually shown. So they didn't understand [music] what kind of design I wanted and she was kind of telling me like in advance like oh you want you want something simple right cuz it's already too much too much like you're doing too much basically. So I kind of felt then that she wanted my nail tech lady to be done or she wanted me out of there. I I didn't realize what she wanted, but I know that she wanted it to be done already at this point, that I was doing too much. And I wasn't having the most relaxed time at the spa anymore. Like, I just I wanted to be out of there, too, cuz I didn't feel welcomed anymore. And Coco was doing a good job, but the entire time she was talking to the other nail tech. And I just missed my original nail tech lady because Coco [music] decided to take my phone once again to continue looking at the picture the entire time. And I wanted to read my book. I was stressed.
I wanted to relax, [music] read my book, listen to something, but I couldn't because Koko just wanted to look at my picture through my phone. And my original nail tech lady was smart enough to take picture of my nail art so that she could have it on her phone and I could relax and use my phone. Coco.
All roads lead to Coco.
All of that aside, I think Koko did end up doing a pretty good job. Besides that one flower that ended up being messed up, which I tried to ask her to fix, but I felt like I was bugging even though I was paying for it. And then me and my pedicurist ended up squashing the beef.
[laughter] >> Oh, that's the screen. You could tilt the screen.
>> And this is on a [music] This is different. This is just like the magnet holder. So, this comes off. [laughter] >> No, it's fine.
>> This entire time, I think she was just interested in the type of camera that I have because she started taking pictures and videos of my camera and wanted to ask me where I got my camera and stuff, which I don't blame her. I have the little mini camera and it it it does look funny. Okay. So, that's probably the the whole that's probably the reason why she was looking at me and looking at my camera the entire time anytime I would move it because she was actually curious and interested. I think she probably wanted to buy herself one of her own. [laughter] I wish I would have known that in the beginning because she was actually pretty nice, but I was still very confused why she was going back and forth with Coco. But I guess Coco just likes to go back and forth with everyone.
>> Okay. Come here. Okay. All set. Thank you.
>> I'll take my phone.
>> Oh, yes. [laughter] Yes. Okay. Yes.
>> Can I see it?
>> Yeah, of course. Can you show me? Can I see?
>> Oh, that's pretty. Pretty. Pretty.
>> Yes. It came out really nice. [laughter] >> Pretty.
>> Thank you. My experience wasn't the most relaxing. I felt anxious a lot of the time and I did sort of feel rushed out of there, especially with Coco taking over halfway through my session. that I've never experienced that. And it really made my nail tech anxious that [music] the client had to tell her to calm down, to please relax, that she specifically wanted her because she loves the way she does her pedicure and ultimately was just trying to get her to calm down because she was very anxious. I mean, of course, Koko made her extremely anxious, and that made me really upset. I felt like I wanted to cry because in a way I felt like it was my fault for asking for this artwork.
>> [music] >> Total 105 [clears throat] totals of 50 total 150 >> 115 [music] >> 155 >> oh 155 >> yeah yeah >> of 50 >> what's the what's >> the mail and then how much was this the pedicure >> pedicure of 50 >> 50 the pedicure okay because of the French tip >> um >> how much do you guys charge for French tips Let me see. Uh, no cheaper. 45 uh $45 mark total 50 for to nail. Total 105 total 150 bucks. Total.
>> Yeah, I was just wondering about the >> if you want to p car [music] >> card. Yeah.
>> Oh, right now the 155 of the uh charge cafe. So 1588. [music] [laughter] >> Oh, okay. Yeah, that you guys charge.
That's >> okay. You want the tips on the car?
>> Okay.
>> Yeah, I could do the tip on the card.
>> Okay. Yeah.
>> Uh how much the for the >> Can I write it? [music] >> Yeah. Okay.
>> Yeah. Oh, to total.
>> No. Uh the tip.
>> Oh.
So 158 plus that tip.
>> Okay, let me see. [laughter] >> I'm not good at math.
>> Okay. Total, right? T, right?
>> That's a tip.
>> Yeah.
150 equals, right?
>> Yeah.
>> Yeah.
This total uh [music] is the total one two >> that's the tip I wrote [music] down the tip tip will be 4650 right >> yesip okay if the tips the eagle the Total at the car total 1650 cent.
>> That's okay.
>> Yeah.
>> Yeah.
>> Okay. Thank you. Thank you so much.
>> Yes. [laughter] >> This one's the one I signed, right?
>> Yeah.
>> Thank you so much.
>> All right. Thank you.
>> Have a great day.
>> You, too.
>> Thank you so much, ladies.
>> Have a great day.
>> I got my nails done already. It was a little bit more stressful than I thought it [music] was going to be. Probably because of the complications of the designs and somebody wanted a specific technician for the nails and I felt so bad for the lady. So, um, but I'm glad to have my nails done now finally. It's 12:30. I came at 9:00 and I got attended right away cuz I was one of the first ones. So overall, I feel like the bad reviews are sort of justified because Coco kind of kills the vibe there. I'm not going to lie. Like if you want to go to a nail salon to just sit back, lay back, relax, watch a little TV show, talk to your manicures while you get a really nice nail set that you are going to pay for and get your money's worth.
Maybe don't go to this salon because specifically Coco just kills the vibe for everyone there. I think um my actual nail tech lady clearly seems to be loved by everyone there because there was even another client that had been waiting an hour just for her to do her pedicure.
That that says a lot because I don't care. I will not wait an hour for anyone like just do the thing. But clearly she don't trust nobody else in that salon.
So [music] [music] what are your thoughts on Coco?
>> See even he's having nightmares.
>> A little baby [music] got a little candy in her pocket. She going to take off [music] like a You already know.
