In sawmill operations, bandsaw blade tooth spacing significantly impacts cutting performance; closer tooth spacing (such as 3/4 inch) can produce smoother cuts and handle harder materials effectively, contrary to the common assumption that wider spacing is always better for cutting.

Big Orders, New Blades & A Surprise Snake At The SawmillHinzugefügt:
That machine is the best thing we've ever done for upgrading the sawmill.
Morning people. It is a beautiful morning today. We are trimming up some wood, getting ready for these customers to come pick up some of this stuff and get it out of here. I got a bunch of 1x4s going out. I got to trim up some of this stuff and make it 12t and clean some of it up. Then we got a bunch of 1x six's going out tomorrow. Then we're going to be focusing all our energy on these 1x8s we got to get out. We need 400 1x8s out of here. And then we got to get 400 1x3's out for a little board and batten job. So I think one reason it's so many boards is because it's 1x8s instead of like 1x10s or 1x12's. So it'll take a lot more boards to cover a siding on a building than uh typical 1x10s. So we got to focus all our energy on that and get that job out of here.
Um, but today we're going to have a special guest come by and um, I'll show you a little bit of that and who that is. But right now, we got to trim up some of this wood. We got a miter saw, but I love this little CC saw. So easy to use, quick and easy. Looks like our guest has arrived.
>> Yeah.
>> All right. Today we're sitting here with Mr. Steve Bailey from Burton Mill Solutions down in South Georgia. Want to introduce yourself and tell us what you got here?
>> Well, name is Steve Bailey, obviously, and I come up here and uh, brought Chris here a few bands. Wanted to give them a shot and see how he likes them. Couple of Simon's 144, one and a quarter, 042, 3/4, and some of the 7/8 tooth spacing.
>> Yeah, this is a pretty interesting design here with the the close to spacing here. Was that You said that's a 3/4 spacing.
>> Yep, that's 3/4 in to spacing there.
>> We tried this one earlier and man, this thing cut it cut like butter. It really surprised me how well it cut. To me, I just assume the closer a spacing, the harder it's going to be to cut. But I guess not. I don't know. They seem to cut really good. basin should give you a little bit smoother finish.
>> Yep.
>> And it does come in handy on harder materials also.
>> Yeah. Yeah. We got to try these out on some pine. They cut uh cut that pine like butter. Um I like to try them on some popppler. See how that works. Even cedars cuz uh cedars, you always want a better cut on some of your cedar stuff, your harder woods like that or more brittle woods if you call it that. But um yeah, that thing worked great. And we also got the what is it? to 10°.
>> Yep, that's 10°.
>> 78 spacing, right?
>> Yep. 7/8, two spacing, 10 degree.
>> Yep.
>> I think you're going to like the way they perform.
>> Yeah, I think that's what we have on the mill now, ain't it?
>> Yep. That's the same ones that's on the mill right now.
>> Yeah, those cut really well.
>> Gotten a lot of good feedback from the different customers that I've had use it. Well, I wouldn't I wouldn't have brought them up here, too, if I didn't think they were going to do a good job.
>> Yeah, absolutely. No, they they cut like butter. I I like them. He was gracious enough to come visit us all the way from South Georgia, bring these blades. We got to try them out and cut some wood and I'll put some footage of that on here as well. How can folks get a hold of you if they want to get some of these yourself and try them out?
>> Well, they can uh you can reach me through Burton Mill Solutions down Georgia there. We've got several different phone numbers. I think Chris might be willing to put my phone numbers in a link down below.
>> I'll put it down below here >> so that it's easy to get a hold to me.
If you call and tell me Chris seen it or you seen it on this video, I'll make sure I also keep track of it and try to let Chris know how all this is working out in that direction. Also, I do appreciate all that he's putting that he's doing to try to help this out. I believe we got a pretty good product.
You've probably heard more about them.
Maybe different bands because we we do carry other material other than just the Simons, but Simons is what we're really looking at right now. And uh I think Steve he said the first he's never run a sawmill before, but we let him we got to let him cut some on my sawmill. What' you think about that?
>> Yeah. Hey, and I didn't tear nothing up.
>> Hey. Yeah.
>> I mean that that was a that's a home run hit.
>> Yeah.
>> If I can do it and not mess it up.
>> But yeah, I'll put all his information in the link below. And uh if you guys want to check out these blades, go check them out. We've been trying them out today and they they seem to cut really well. Um, I'm going to make some more video with them trying them on some different logs and uh so you guys can kind of see how they work and how well they work on different kinds of woods.
So, uh, yeah, we appreciate you coming out and we thank you for the blades and >> I appreciate the opportunity coming out >> and like I said, make sure y'all let me know if you call and order bands or if you just have questions, whatever. But make sure you comment on it. let us know that you seen that you seen this video or that Chris or Bonnie has told you to, you know, contact me or whatever.
>> Comment and uh let them know that uh Standard Living sent you.
>> Sounds good.
>> All right. Well, thanks. Thanks for coming.
>> Appreciate you having me.

Well, those blades seem to be doing a pretty darn good job. They are slicing through this pine like butter, and they're still pretty sharp. So, yeah, those blades are pretty nice. Um, if you want to check them out yourself, go check out uh the information below. I'll put a link in the description. Go check those out. Those guys are right here in South Georgia. I'm sure they deliver anywhere in the US. Yeah, pretty cool blades, especially this one here with a 3/4 gap tooth spacing. That's a very interesting blade. It's a very smooth cut. Um, I do want to try that out on some cedar and stuff to see how fine it can cut it, how smooth it can cut. But yeah, these things work pretty good. I'm glad uh Mr. Steve stopped by here and to visit and uh dropped us off a few blades to use. Yeah, if you're interested in those blades, um go check out Burton. Go check out Steve's information in the link below. But we've not only been talking and testing out blades today.
We've actually got quite a few 1x sixes here stacked up. Um most of these I ran off bigger logs than I run through the edger. Um all these I cut out of logs and I think I ran some of those out of the edger, too. Yeah, I got a hundred of these things to make. And then we got to start working on our 1x8s. got 400 1x8s and 400 1x3s to make, which is going to be pretty darn time consuming on this manual mill. We may go visit my buddy with the Woodmiser LT40 again. He's got all the cool logs there. Um, his mill's faster, so we may end up going over there just to cut that job out because that's a lot of work. It's a lot of work on this manual mill. Um, not that I can't do it or won't do it, but as far as timing goes, um, I've got other jobs I need to get out as well. And this job is going to take up so much time that I think we're going to go over there one day and just we're going to run it hard as we can. Um, get as much as we can done. We might get it all done. Um, what we don't get done, we'll bring all the slabs here, all the offcuts and flitches, and we'll run them through the edger. And I'll probably bring some logs back as well, just to finish out the order. Um, but then we got to start our 2 by six order. We got 70 of those to make. And man, I just feel like it's never ending. I'm ready to get on this building here, finish this thing up, getting the roof on it. I did get the tin moved over here out of the way, but I still got to get on this thing and put it together cuz um, I need to bring my sharpener and stuff down here. And I need to be able to stack these blades in here out of my garage and then out of my Dodge. So, I need to clean that old Dodge out. I'm about to get these boards stacked so I can start cutting a few more.
Counting what I just cut and the flitch is over here that I need to run through the edger. I am right at 91 boards. So, I need to go get one more log to finish this order out. I've only got nine more boards to make. So, I think I'll probably make 12, maybe 15. Throw him some extras in there. It's kind of how I usually do it anyway.
We're about to cut this log up, but we're going to be using our Pro Yama 68cc chainsaw. Now, I got a whole video coming on this chainsaw right here. This thing has surprised me. It is a tough saw now. This thing is a man. We got a 24-in bar, 3/8 chain on there. This thing will saw some logs. Yeah. A whole video coming up on that saw soon, so stay tuned for that.
All right. Uh-uh. Where?
>> Below.
>> Before we cut this vlog, let's go check out a snake Bonnie just found.
Snaky snake.
Snake.
Look at this guy.
Hey, little snake.
Long never ends.
There he goes.
I think he hit his head on the log.
He's gone.
Yeah, he's gone. I killed it for you.
No, it's not going to kill you. He's going to catch rats and things, so don't worry. All right, let's cut this log. I guess that's technically the first snake I've seen this year.
Proyama.
She had Priyama sent that saw to us a while back. I wanted to do some real good testing on it. Um, we've had it for a little over a month now. So, I've been sawing with it quite a bit. I've been using it for my saw everything saw lately just to give it a good test and um really break down the goods and bads about it so I can show you cuz I didn't want to show you something or push something on you guys. I ain't going to push something on you anyway, but I was going to show you anything that I didn't like. So, but now you see me still using that thing after a month now. So, you know, I like it. It is a Chinese brand saw, but man, for the price of a saw like that, yeah, that video will be coming up soon. Um, it's going to be a whole video all about that saw and how well it works and the different things we've cut with it so far. And, um, just to give you an idea of what you can get for just over 100 bucks. So, yeah, that'll be coming up soon. But right now, we got to get this log in the mill and finish up this job. Now, Steve from Burton, he's been watching our videos and he pointed something out as soon as he got here that I don't know if any of you have noticed. Look at this tape measure. How worn out and rusted it is.
Well, the first thing he does when he comes has me a new tape measure. So, thank you, Steve. He really needed that. That old Craftsman tape measure has been on this sawmill since it was new. So, um, good know sawmill lasts longer than a tape measure does. That thing's rusted all pieces. That little Burton tape measure will work well. Again, thank you, Steve. We appreciate that. We'll definitely be putting that to good use.
Heat.
Heat.
Heat. Heat.
Heat. Heat.
Now, I want to tell you this. I'm no salesman. I'm not tied to anyone or anything. I'm not paid by anyone to tell you what to buy or what not to buy or what's better than something else. I'm here to show you our little sawmill and farming adventure and maybe do some little product reviews and things here and there and test some things out. And I'm just showing you my experience with these tools and different things we do and experience with the sawmill and you know just life in general. But there's one tool here. I don't have to sell it all. Check this out. If you're a sawyer, I already know you know what this is.
And you know what kind of headache it is throwing this stuff back on the sawmill and cutting that down to size. Stack it up. You throw it to the side. Maybe one day you'll cut it. Maybe one day you won't. But look at this thing right here. I don't even need to tell you how big of a game changer this thing's been for us. This thing has just changed our world down here at Sawmill. Now, I'm not paid by anyone to tell you how good or bad something is, but watch this machine right here. This machine will sell itself.
Heat. Heat.
Heat. Heat.
Heat.
Heat.
Heat.
Heat.
That machine is the best thing we've ever done for upgrading this sawmill.
And I'm still completely sided this hedgers here. This thing has really helped tremendously. I can't even tell you how much. I don't think I have to tell you. I'm sure you've seen it. And I'm sure just by watching the video, you see what kind of added value it is to a sawmill. I don't think we could live without it anymore. I don't think I could run a sawmill without an edger anymore. This thing has just completely changed our world. It's made me soft. I don't ever want to edge a board on a sawmill again. And if you guys can think of any other awesome upgrades that can even closely compare to having this edger, drop it in the comments cuz I want to know. Well, that's going to do it for today. We got this order filled out. We actually got more than we needed, but that's a good thing, too.
He'll be here to pick up in the morning.
He'll come in the morning. We'll load him up and that'll be a few more dollars in the bank. But we had a pretty productive day. We got some jobs out. We got some customers loaded up out today.
But we had a good visit today with Mr. Steve Bailey from Burton. Um, he left us a few blades. He got to run the sawmill.
We had a good chat and good time. Um, we got some work out. He even helped around a little bit for a minute. Got a lot more work we got to get out this week.
So, we're going to be on it tomorrow, but that's it. And it's about to get dark. I'm going to eat supper. Hope you guys enjoyed this video. If you did, make sure you hit that like and subscribe button. It's all free and we're going to be doing some giveaways coming up soon. So stay tuned for that.
Appreciate you coming. We'll see you on the next one.
>> We said goodbye.
No clarity.
I'm leaving now.
Are you blaming me?
radio silence.
