The H-Citi Programme (Hyderabad City Innovative and Transformative Infrastructure Programme) is a comprehensive urban development initiative by GHMC and Telangana State Government with a total outlay of ₹5,942 crore across 38 projects, aimed at transforming Hyderabad into a '15-minute city' where residents can access essential services within a 15-minute walk. The program encompasses multiple infrastructure components including 10 flyovers/underpasses (13.56 km) and 6 road-widening projects (6.5 km) in Phase 1, the Strategic Nala Development Program (SNDP) Phase 2 with 35 projects for flood management, 34 stormwater drain projects (~43.7 km), 43 EV charging stations, 8 adaptive traffic signal control systems, and green infrastructure such as footpaths, cycling tracks, and solar-powered community halls. The largest single component involves 7 steel flyovers and 7 underpasses around KBR National Park at a cost of ₹1,090 crore, targeting completion by December 2028. The initiative addresses key urban challenges including congestion, flooding, and sustainability while facing implementation challenges such as tree removal concerns, approval delays, and inter-agency coordination.

Hyderabad's largest ever Infra Upgrade
Added:Hyderabad is currently undergoing one of the largest infrastructure upgrades.
It's called the H City program.
Hyderabad City Innovative and Transformative Infrastructure Program.
In this video, [music] we'll see what the program covers, the projects involved, the budget, and [music] the challenges. H City is an urban development initiative run by GHMC along with Telangana State Government.
The program covers roads, flyovers, drainage, water supply, public spaces, and green infrastructure. The broader vision is to make Hyderabad a 15-minute city where residents can reach schools, hospitals, and shops within a 15-minute walk. The focus is on reducing congestion, improving flood management, and building infrastructure that's more sustainable and inclusive. The total outlay for H City is 5,942 crore covering 38 projects.
Administrative sanction has been granted for 23 of these works. Phase 1 includes 16 key projects with an estimated cost of 2,400 crore. The largest single component of H City involves flyovers and underpasses. The most significant cluster is around KBR National Park where seven steel flyovers and seven underpasses are being built at a cost of 1,090 crore. These target seven key junctions: Jubilee Hills Check Post, KBR Park Entrance, Road Number 45, Film Nagar, Maharaja Agrasen Island, Indo-American Cancer Hospital, and Mugda Traffic Junction. The work will be completed by December 2028. Beyond KBR Park, several other major structures are planned. These include a six-lane bidirectional flyover from Miyapur X Road to Alwyn X Road, three-lane flyovers at Kukatpally Y Junction on NH 65, a four-lane flyover at Rasoolpura, and a six-lane bidirectional flyover at Bundlaguda crossroads.
>> [music] >> At the IT corridor, multi-level flyovers and underpasses are planned at Khajaguda, IIIT area, and Wipro Junction. A four-lane steel girder bridge over the Fox Sagar surplus nala in Quthbullapur is also being built. On the road widening side, six major expansions are planned.
>> [music] >> This includes 215-ft road from CP Cyberabad office to Gachibowli, 100-ft road from Tulsinagar to Gowtham Nagar, and roads in areas like Jubilee Hills, Film Nagar, Chandrayangutta, and Balapur. These projects are aimed at easing movement in high traffic corridors. Flooding has been a recurring problem in Hyderabad. Each city addresses this through the Strategic Nala Development Program [music] or SNDP. SNDP phase two adds 35 new projects targeting flood-prone areas like Kapra, Uppal, and Nallagandla. And 34 storm water drain projects are being taken up across the GHMC area. SNDP phase has already developed 69 km of nalas across the city. Beyond roads and drainage, each city has several other components. On smart traffic management, a city-wide unified traffic signal control system has been upgraded, and eight [music] adaptive traffic signal control systems have been installed. On electric vehicles, 43 EV charging stations have already been commissioned with 40 more in pipeline. On utilities, a smart water grid is being deployed to monitor leakages and improve water delivery. Overhead electrical lines are being shifted underground, particularly useful during monsoons. On green and pedestrian infrastructure, new footpaths, cycling tracks, green belts, solar-powered [music] community halls, and sensor-equipped public toilets are being built. The program has faced pushback in certain areas.
>> [music] >> The flyover and underpass construction near KBR Park has led to tree removal along the stretch, affecting green cover. Other challenges include approval delays, coordination between multiple agencies, and maintaining [music] quality while working at this scale and pace.
