'Wantam' movement is set; Opposition must unite to win in 2027 – Ikua wa Mbote

[00:00:00]After the Olkalou by-election, the opposition has been spurred into action. That now things are getting serious and things are moving.

[00:00:10]Bonikua, I know you were involved very much in the what happened in in Olkalou. That was very much talked about, but what has this done to the opposition or to the United Alternative Government that you can now see all this action within days after that?

[00:00:28]>> Well, thank you, Freddy. Let me first start by sending my message of condolences to the two gentlemen who succumbed to political violence, especially to goonism attack >> Mhm.

[00:00:40]>> in Olkalou. We lost two young people today in Olkalou. We have a requiem mass that is being attended by our party leader, Rigathi Gachagua, at the operator in Olkalou. So, I take this opportunity to send my message of condolences to those families before we start discussing.

[00:00:58]But coming into your question, basically what Olkalou have done, it has set the stage and it has set the tempo in which the opposition need to pick up quickly.

[00:01:07]If you remember previously, the government was taking, you know, taking pride of the by-elections that they had actually won by using all means necessary, violence thereof, to try and create a perception that they are completely, you know, unbeatable. But Olkalou was very special.

[00:01:28]>> Mhm.

[00:01:28]>> It was special in a manner that it sits right at the center of the mountain, what I would call what I would call the mountain block. And it was being, you know, watched and expected by the entire country to be able to showcase what the people versus the government can do. Because the Olkalou contest was the government versus the people. The two gentlemen who are fighting for positions in Olkalou were just victim of circumstances, but the real context was between the people and the government, and that is William Ruto William Ruto himself. So, what the opposition and the United Alternative Government have done, they must seize the moment. And the moment is now the tempo or what I would call the pace have been set.

[00:02:13]And the reality of the fact that the government can rule is not just rule, but rule with a huge margin, seven times over, has actually been achieved. So, they must now move with speed to try and now put up structures, especially on the ways of identifications of the tickets, what I would call the joint ticket, because I have told you here before, before we even went to Hurukara, I told you that the leaders of United Alternative Government, whoever they are, my party leader Rigathi Gachagua, Fred Matiang'i, you know, I would call Kalonzo Musyoka, everybody must know one thing in particular, and they already aware of it.

[00:02:51]That it is not optional of whether or not to bring up a joint ticket amongst all of them. No.

[00:02:57]It is actually mandatory. And this it is in the heart and the minds of the Kenyans who are behind them. Because politicians need to understand that you are as good as the people who are who are behind you. The believability of the United Alternative Government taking up power is more on the people than on the principles themselves. So, that is the strength, and they understand clearly. [00:03:23]Kuskiza ground. You must listen to the people and what they want, because that is the reason why you you seek to be elected in the first place. So, the tempo, the speed, the foundation have been set to actualize the one-term movement, and this will be an eventuality that this government cannot avoid. They are going home.

[00:03:43]>> Wakili Harrison Kinyanjui, the feeling before this was that President William Ruto can never lose an election.

[00:03:51]That uh way or the other the government of the day will prevail in any by-election because they've done so in all uh the by-elections we've witnessed.

[00:04:00]Now, it would appear there's a serious shift in that uh belief that now and hence this kind of uh action uh we see uh being captured on all the dailies. Do you agree that uh President William Ruto right now is at uh disadvantage in as far as perception is concerned?
