Monday Night Meatloaf 158
Added:[music] Welcome back to Ox Tools. I'm Tom. So, it's been a minute since I've done a meatloaf, and I know there is a contingent out there that does enjoy the meatloaf. So, I've saved up a few things. Um, I have a package that uh another YouTuber sent. So, we're going to open that up. And uh I've got a report on some uh some new excellent medication that I'm on that uh that you guys might get a kick out of. And um and the usual mix of weird stuff uh related to the shop. So, let's get into it and uh see what I got.
So this uh the first one here is uh this new medication that uh that I found and um it's calledopium and I think everybody could use a little bit of that from time to time. Now this particular stuff is uh not readily available. So I'll warn you that if you go looking for this you probably won't find it. So what's uh more interesting is um some of the uh instructions and side effects of uh taking.
So this particular one you can take with alcohol or on an empty stomach which is uh uh mildly interesting. And then um this is a for the promotion of motivation to take action despite a desperate situation. Okay. And then for use when setting expectations with the lowest bidding contract. For use while consuming gas station and su sushi.
For use when managing cryptocurrency accounts. Not intended for real purposes. Use your own risk. This is not intended to generate any long-term solutions. Is intended to provide transitory well-being and obscation of current cir circumstances.
So, uh patient name and uh you notice the uh the doctor that uh that supplies this. Um so, continuing on here, warnings and precautions. So, it may cause drowsiness and or feelings of misplaced euphoria. Um do not operate heavy machinery or go ahead, I'm not your mom. Anyway, so the the story behind this is uh uh a friend of mine at work um at my former job uh made these up as a joke uh because uh we both felt that uh there was some u uh misplaced uh confidence in uh certain outcomes on uh on a particular project. So, uh uh anyway, as a joke, he made these up and uh anyway, I ended up with one of the bottles. So, just so you know, this is not a real deal. Uh don't get your hopes up and uh don't try to uh don't try to find any yourself.
Okay. So, the next one I got here, this is uh this is from an engineer buddy of mine uh up in Washington. And uh he and I used to actually be in business together a long time ago. And um he builds um um X-ray X-ray columators. And uh these are to uh very precisely columnate X-ray beams so that they can look at um uh particular areas of um of the internal structure of some mechanical things. Let's just leave it at that. But anyway, [snorts] um he's kind of an inventor, designer, uh engineer. He's a he's a he's a super nerd like me. And um he and I both uh use these little uh uh height sensors here. And if you haven't seen these before, they're kind of they're kind of cool. And they're just dog simple. And uh and they work pretty nice. And the way it works is for touching off your tools on a on a CNC machine. Okay. And this is exactly or pretty precisely 2 in um 2 in long. Okay. And what it does is when you actually make contact with it with a conductive tool, let's see if I is it lighting up? Yeah. Okay. You can see it see it lighting up there, right?
Um now, one of the problems with these over the years, right, is um the battery life really is terrible. And it it had an incandescent bulb in it. So, what uh my friend John did was he made a little LED module that fits in there. Uh which, you know, was kind of cool. And it's it's an itty bitty little thing. I'm not going to take it out cuz it's pretty fragile. And uh so the battery life is like, you know, I don't know. It's massive now. I haven't changed the batteries on this in quite a while now.
So where it would eat through these little um these happen to be the same batteries in the digital calipers, too.
So, I have them around, but it kind of goes through them and um uh and they get drained out uh pretty easily. So, anyway, thanks, John. I appreciate you uh sending that. He sent a couple other things that we're going to look at and uh so let me get the uh let me get the next thing. Okay, so this is this is serious. This is a real deal here. So he John has a uh he he sends me joke gifts uh like I send him joke gifts uh once in a while and um he always got a kick out of uh um the fact that uh you know I did a u a 30 a 30-day survival trip uh when I was much younger where I had to you know I forged my own food and I didn't really take any I didn't take any food with me, no sleeping bag, no nothing. And uh pretty much just a knife and um um and you know went out in the woods in the Sierras and uh and lived there for a month. And anyway, in in that process uh I ended up uh uh sampling some uh some big black ants that were coming out of this antill. And so I think he got a kick out of that uh years ago when I told him the story. And uh so he's always had it in my mind that I was I'd be willing to eat weird stuff.
Right. So anyhow um so he says uh let's see here.
Uh let's see what do I want to read here. There's a big uh candy and confectionary store near my mom's retirement home. Uh his wife discovered it and we went there and had some uh free time. Da da da da da. I saw these and immediately thought of you. Um, kind of like when I got you the canned silkworm larae. Okay. Yeah, I do remember that. So, uh, uh, yep, that's the kind of friend I am. Anyway, I bought these back in Pennsylvania when I, my dad was still alive. That's how long I've been meaning to share these with you. Uh, his dad passed away in 2019. So, [laughter] so these are older than uh, 2019, so it doesn't have a sell by date on it. And uh but hey, let's try them. Why not, right? And uh I think it's serious. So uh let's give it a go. And I'm sure you want to watch me eat these, right? Not just have meum kind of off camera. So uh let let me move the camera and then we'll uh we'll sample these and see how they are. Okay.
So we got u salt and vinegar and sour cream and onion. I think uh let's try the sour cream and onion. that kind of appeals to me for for some reason. And uh let's give it a let's give it a try.
Package is still sealed. So uh that's a good a good start. All right, let me uh let me open it up.
Okay, package is open.
There they are. [laughter] kind of doesn't smell like uh okay tiny bit of sour cream flavor.
Okay. Pretty kind of dried out and desiccated.
It's like a um what's it like? I don't know. It's kind of like a bad cracker, I think. So, let's try the other one, sir.
Might be. Maybe they're better.

Um, a viewer who um is I don't know uh extremely grateful for the content that I put out. So, to uh decided to um make me a gift and uh so he made this uh or he didn't make the lock, but he did the engraving on the lock. There's there's more to it than this. And this this is like really deep relief here. and he sent me a whole a whole write up on how he did this and uh a little bit about himself, but uh that it's not the f not his focus is to uh he just wanted this he felt like sending me a gift which was very very nice and his name is uh is Eric uh Schlintz and he lives in a little town called Arvvada, Colorado, which is an interesting little place because I know like three people there. uh so it's just completely random. Um many years ago there was um I got some books from a viewer and one of the names in the book was um oh gosh I can't remember the guy's name.
Um uh but he worked uh he worked uh at um uh on the on the Manhattan Pro. You know what? I I should shut up. I can't I can't remember his name. Um anyway, uh so I I know this guy, Eric, uh um this other guy that uh bought um this gentleman's tools and uh that uh I ended up with one of his books. So I sent him the book to go with the tools. It was a machinery's handbook. Anyway, it was a Arvvada Colorado is a focal point uh with my channel for some reason. So, but anyway, let's get back to the lock. Um, yeah, his name is Harold. Harold something rather. Um, Dang it. Okay, this is going to bug me now. I should have prepared myself a little better.
But, uh, he did some he did some, uh, I mean, look at that. That's, uh, basically [clears throat] I mean, that's 15,000s deep there or something, right? Or 10,000s deep. A little little ax there. And then, uh, my personal favorite is that one. What do you think of that? That's pretty cool, huh? I mean, he snatched a picture off of the web somewhere and uh and um and then uh made it into a raster vector deal and um and now I'm immortalized in this lock. So, uh anyway, Eric, u uh thank you so much for this. This is super cool. And if you don't know these particular locks here, uh this is an American um uh what's what's the model number here?
Um, oh, 5560 brass bodied. These are excellent locks and we use the this style of lock at work for uh lotto locks and um they have u uh seven pin uh seven pin tumblers in them and uh they're a little more difficult to pick than uh than standard padlocks. But uh anyway, so I got a really really cool padlock uh that's personalized from from Mr. Eric there.
So, thanks again and uh pretty cool.
All right, so this next one um [sighs] um I got from my friend Metalmaster Mike over in uh Roseville uh which is I don't know about an hour away from here. And um he does some work for this particular company here uh TAP Extensions or Tap Associates and that's their website. And now if you haven't seen these, these are pretty cool. So let's open the box.
and uh and get one out here. So, what these are are these are tap extensions.
Okay. So, let's let's grab the uh the quarter inch here. And um and what these are is if you ever had occasion that you needed to reach uh past something. So, let's uh let's get a tap out here. Get a quarter inch out where you needed to reach past something.
um or reach down into a hole or something like that. So, what these have is they have they're they have a square brooch down in the bottom of these.
Let's see. Okay. See? And then they kind of um and I think it's slightly tapered.
And so the tap actually wedges in there.
And now you can grab it in a in a chuck or with a with a tap wrench or something like that and you have a nice extension.
Right. So, okay. So, that one came out pretty easily. But there's u these little chinkaderas here that you can use to um like a a taper drift to knock them out theoretically.
Oh, it's already out. Okay, that's why it's it's not going. Um but anyway, um I got these from Mike and I've been wanting a set of these. Um they're a they're a little pricey, but if you do this kind of work, um you know, you you end up bumping into this problem uh pretty regularly, actually. And these are nice because they're they're slim, right? Let's get a bigger tap here.
And uh in the case of this one here, I think it's it's basically the same. Actually, you know what? Let's let's verify that.
I got some calipers handy here.
Yeah. So, it's under It's slightly under half inch, right? So, this will pass the body. Uh let's see. Let's make sure I get it in there right. Yeah, there it goes. So, it'll pass. It'll pass the body at least. And that tap needs to be uh needs to be cleaned. I must have been chasing some some some holes in something. Anyway, uh Mike, thank you very much and uh for the uh the tap extensions. And if you guys want some of these, uh check out their website. I honestly I don't know how much a set is.
I just know that u um they were a little pricey for just having around, right? Just to buy to have around.

Okay, so Abby Booth and um I think I know what this is, but uh let's uh let's open her up and uh see what we got here.
Oh yeah. Okay, cool. So, uh, Adam sent me a, uh, one of his, uh, his drill indexes here. And, um, all right. Well, let's let's look at this first here.

That's pretty nice anodizing. And there's his uh Abomb Industries part number D something or other serial number. Oh, it's got a serial number.

Made in the USA. Right on. Well, thank you, Adam or Abby or Adam or whoever sent it. Um uh thank you very much. And I think Okay, looks like we got uh Oh, yeah.
Looks like it's got all the drills. Uh, I'm not going to put those in right now.
And um, uh, but they send you a full set of drills with this with this deal, too.
So, uh-oh. What's that one? Oh, well, look at that.
So, why is he sending me these? Huh?
So, these are these are one, two, three blocks. Huh. Okay. Um All right. We got some stickers.
There's old Uncle Adam there. Flame flame spraying. And another sticker.
Cool. All right. Um let's see what's going on here.

Oh okay. Um [laughter] all right. Um oh the plot thickens here. All right. Um okay. I'm I'm reading this. This is too good. So, uh, dear Tom, I hope you can help me. Okay. Uh, we have never spoken, but I feel like I know you from the way Adam talks about you. All right, cool.
You are God in his eyes. Well, I don't know about that, but uh, so in my desperation, I hope you can find it in your heart to help me out. Okay. I've been learning machine work with Adam and on my own. I have been doing pretty good up until the other day.
I was precision grinding something and made a big big mistake as you can see on one of the included blocks.
Oh, there it is. Okay. Um, as you can see on one of the included blocks, I managed to bark the snot out of one of these, one of Adam's blocks. Oh, so these are Adam's Adam's uh Adam's blocks. Okay.
He's really attached to these blocks. I think he made them in high school or his greatgrandfather Amos made them or something like that.
I'm not sure.
I think you can see the predic predicament I'm in. I'm hoping you can help me out somehow. and repair the chowdered block before Adam notices they are missing. Please help. Sincerely, Abby Booth. Wow. Okay.
Okay. All right. Well, oh man, look at that. Yeah, that's pretty common, actually. Um, so I wonder how deep that is.

So, that's 880 at the at the gouge there. And oh, wow. What's up with that?
917. What?
917. Oh, wow. These are these are undersized blocks. Okay. So, these aren't actually one, two, three blocks.
These are sub123 blocks. Now, for th for those folks that that don't know that that's that's actually a thing. Um it's actually handy sometimes to have blocks that are not dead nuts on the nominal size, right? Um for example, if you wanted to u to grind something that was 1 in, right? And and that's a good example right there, right? and you wanted to block it in, but you wanted to go to one inch on this, but you don't want to touch your blocks. So, having blocks that are 5 to 10 thou under, but all the same um is actually a thing. It's useful. So, maybe that's the situation here is that these were intended to be uh undersized blocks for some reason. So, um now, so what's what do we got? 917 and then what did they say? 880 or something.
Wow. So, that's like 30 thou to come off or something like that. So, well, that's doable. I mean, the only thing we can do is is is knock these down, right? Uh until that cleans up and uh and then uh send them back and uh hope hope Uncle Adam doesn't uh doesn't notice that they're not 917 anymore, right? It probably You know what? he might not notice cuz uh um in his mind he knows that these are less than one inch, right? So even if they're a little bit more than less than one inch, then he might not notice. So, uh, all right, Abby, if you're watching this, uh, I'll be sure to send you a a note, um, uh, and let you know, um, uh, to watch the video at least [laughter] and see how we're going to fix these and, uh, what we're going to do with, uh, with a a booth's blocks here. So, um, um, h well, you know what? You just never know what your day is going to look like, right? So, uh, let's, uh, let's think about this for a minute and see if we can come up with a solution.
Well, let's, uh, take aim here and hope this comes out. Okay. [laughter] Um, on or off? There we go.
Um, set that aside.
Well, fortunately, I got this uh um this grinder going again nicely um with the coolant, right? That's what we're going to need for this particular job. And um to keep it cool while we uh while we knock those blocks down. So, those in the middle, you know, I just got to say it, right? I'm sure there's some folks out there that are saying, "Oh, you should you should angle uh you should angle the block so that it goes on uh goes on smoothly and uh and exits smoothly off of the block. It's a bunch of baloney." Okay, so there's so much grinding that you have to do. that's actually perpendicular to or parallel to an edge or square with the world, right?
It doesn't matter. Okay? Learn how to grind straight. Okay? And um uh and save the the cockeyed angles for uh uh impressing your friends. It's it's not really uh it's not a real deal, okay?
You don't see any professional grinding shops doing that. Okay? So, I mean, people do it, right? and it works. But, um, generally, uh, what people look for is a finish, uh, going with the long axis of the part, uh, you know, the lay of the finish, right? So, um, all right, let's get this thing fired up, get this wheel dressed, and, uh, we got we got a bit of work to do to get down to get that uh, that bark mark out of there.
Okay.
All right. Let's get the show on the road here.
All right, let's do a initial uh touch pass here.
See what we got. Make sure there's no big high spots.
And judging by the sparks on that, that's a just a few tents of cut there.
We're going to be taking significant uh uh depths of cut on this since we're running coolant and we got good control over the stepover. Uh so we'll be doing a deep cut with a small step over uh is the recipe here for rapid stock removal.
Looks like they're all uh cleaning up.
So, they're pretty parallel at least except for that except for the bark mark.
All right, clear the part. I'm going to come down. Let's do 3 and see how that behaves itself.
That sounds pretty good.
Okay, let the games begin.
So, obviously, I'm not going to show all of this grinding, right? This is going to take a minute to uh to get down there. But, uh and I think we're only get we're going to take it all off one side. That way, uh we preserve the patina that's on the rest of the block.
Um, and then maybe we can figure out a way to age the uh age the u freshly ground surface a little bit. So, uh I don't know. I have a carbide tool. We can cher uh we can reestablish the chamers. That's no problem. And uh so we should be able to do a pretty good job cleaning these up and uh getting these back in Uncle Adam's toolbox.

Chipped away a little bit at it.
I think I'm about 15 thou off maybe something like that.
The chamfer's pretty much gone now, but uh we got a ways to go there. It's a pretty deep uh pretty deep bark.
I distressed the wheel. So, uh I'm going to take a bigger cut here. Coming back across.
Well, we're pretty close here.
I'm going to I'm going to do a couple more little couple more passes and then some of that will go away with when we rechamfer.
But you can see how much material uh I've taken off. It's uh non-trivial amount there.
Anyway, uh I switched uh wheels and I went to this uh uh radia uh purple one here. Um it's leaving a really nice finish. So, I'm going to take like two more. I'm going to come across and go back again and then we'll look at it and uh and see what uh what we got here cuz I think we're uh we're sneaking up on it here. So, it's taking a minute though. I can tell you that.
So, this is uh the finish pass here.
So, I slowed the uh traverse or excuse me, the uh longitudinal down and uh uh the depth of cut is considerably less.
All right, let's uh see what we got here.
Oh, yeah. Finish looks good.
Yeah, we're done. So now we just we have to reestablish those chamfers and then uh see if we can uh um uh do a little u a little patentizing there.
All right.
Well, let's pop those monkeys loose here.
Oh, yeah. Yep. I think we got it here.
All right.
Get my little my little popper here.
That's the one we care about there.
Yep. Okay. Got rid of that.
And it is a little noticeable to me anyway. So, uh um All right. Well, all right. All right, let's clean these up and then uh uh see about uh about uh patentizing them a little bit to see if we can get uh some a little age back on them.
Okay.
All right. I'll let this drain out and then uh uh suck up all the all the crud out of there. All right, let's uh let's slap a chamfer on there.
Need to be bigger.
Bigger.
Yeah.
Heat.
a little bigger.
Okay, I can work with Wow.
Okay, pretty good. Okay, let me do the rest of them and then cat noise.
So, this is a severance uh bazillion flute uh burr that works good for this after heat Great.
All right.
Okay. Well, let's get some finish on that.
All right. We're going to try some of this uh Precision brand uh tool blackening. I'm going to dilute it a little bit if I can cuz I've used this before and it's it acts pretty quick. Let's uh let's just try a little corner here and see what happens.
Oh yeah.
Yep. See, it's already darkening up.
Cool. All right. I think this will work.
I'm going to go ahead and uh coat these and then I'll probably remove some of it, right? Just to make it look maybe I need it a little stronger.
What is this stuff anyway?
Of course, probably top secret. They don't uh they don't tell you what it is.
So, all right. It looks like it's it's working. It's what I want is uh you know what uh you would see kind of natural staining, right, from use and handling and that kind of stuff.
Not very uniform, but that's probably okay.
All right. All right. Well, maybe uh let's beef it up a little bit.
That's kind of kind of cool what it's doing there.
All right. Well, that's definitely working now.
Probably um need to stop the reaction pretty soon.
All right. Well, I think this is going to work.
I think that's the key. I tried uh [clears throat] I tried some soldering uh um a you know u flux acid and uh it didn't really do anything. You know, I've had that stain steel before playing around with it and um so I thought it might work.
All right. Well, this looks like it's going to work.
Get those edges. All right. Well, let me do the rest of these and then uh we'll come back and uh and see what we got.
So, this is actually working pretty good. There's one that I I rinsed off and then I uh I hit it on some Scotchbrite. And you can see that it has that just that faint little darkening, you know, from from handling. It's clean and smooth, but u um just a tinge of darkness and then in the holes a little bit more. So, what I'm doing is just kind of giving it a little a little scrub.
You know, not I don't want to take it all off, right?
You know, I can't have any staining on the sides, right? So, I'll get that off like that. Okay. So, that's got to go.
Wow. I didn't see that. That's an old one there. It looks like.
Okay.
There's some there.
So, anyway, it looks like it's going to work.
Yeah.
Yeah. It's not bad.
It's not bad.
All right. Don't get carried away.
Yeah. The danger is to do too much, right? And have to redo it or something, right?
Random. Yeah, random's good.
See, that [snorts] looks like somebody that has that acidic uh body oil. I don't know if you guys have ever met anybody like that. They uh they have an acidic body chemistry and when they touch polished steel they leave fingerprints and stuff and uh you can't have those guys u working in a a mold shop where they're doing high polish and stuff cuz they can ruin a ruin a die they they'd have to wear Oh yeah. So, um, I'm flipping it around going, "Which side's which?" Right. So, okay. All right. One more and then I'm going to wrap this deal up. Well, that's all I got for today. Hope you enjoyed that. And I'm going to pack those uh blocks up and ship them back to Florida to our friends. And uh hopefully uh everything goes okay. I'll see you on the next one.
