These 5 States Have Some Of The Most Snake-filled Waters In The Nation

Here are the top five states with the most snake-filled waters in the northern [music] US. Number five, Saranac Lakes, New York. Located in the Adirondack Mountains with multiple waterways, forested [music] hiking trails, and shorelines, the Saranac Lakes are prime real estate for snakes [music] to hunt and slither. The Empire State is home to 17 different species of snakes. Number two, Huron River, Michigan. Slow-moving water and heavily vegetated [music] banks attract more than 10 species of snakes. Only one is venomous, the massasauga rattlesnake.

Known as the land of 10,000 lakes, Minnesota [music] is a snake's paradise. The flooded banks of the Mississippi, especially [music] in the southeastern corner of the state, are home to the eastern garter snake and a variety of brown snakes. Beware along the river bank and hiking through the trees, these snakes often slither and hunt near the water's edge. Number four, Door County, Wisconsin. With endless shallow bays, forested inlets, and marshes, Wisconsin creates the perfect home for over 20 [music] species of snakes. Water snakes can create quite the jump scare with their defensive behavior, but thankfully [music] are not venomous, unlike their water-loving cousins, the venomous timber rattlesnake. And number one, Sebago Lake, Maine. Seasonal flooding turns forest edges into temporary [music] wetlands, bringing a surge of activity through the spring. Maine is home to nine species [music] of snakes, and none of them venomous. Garter snakes are great swimmers, [music] and often snakes like to bask in open spots of sun on hiking trails, so beware.
