Postmenopausal bleeding, even if it occurs only once or is light spotting, is never something to ignore and requires evaluation by a gynecologist, as it can be an early sign of endometrial cancer or other gynecologic conditions; current guidelines recommend that any postmenopausal bleeding should be assessed with an ultrasound and tissue sampling to rule out malignancy.

Postmenopausal bleeding is never something to ignore
Added:Are you over the age of 45, and you've stopped having periods, but for some reason all of a sudden years later you just started [music] bleeding, maybe a little spotting when you wiped, or even more, >> [snorts] >> and you're just like, "It's nothing."
Number one, it's not nothing, okay?
Meaning it [music] is something. Two negatives make a positive. So, it you need to be seen by a GYN. [music] Any kind of leaking of that red fluid from below after you are supposed to be [music] done, technically you are in what's called menopause, and you have this bleeding in menopause, it's called postmenopausal.
Yeah. And when that happens, whether it's [music] light spotting when you wipe, or it's heavier, that is a problem. Even if it only happened one time, and that was it. That was it.
It's still [music] a problem.
Here's the thing to know. The guidelines changed. We used to just [music] send you for an ultrasound, see how thin or thick the inside lining of your uterus is, >> [music] >> and then go from there. But now the game has changed.
The recommendation is any single person [music] shows up postmenopausal leaking for the, you know, social media don't like these terms, [music] uh, leaking stuff, you need to be seen by a provider. You need to get an ultrasound, and you need [music] what's called sampling from inside. We need to know what the cells are doing. Look at those cells under [music] the microscope, and make sure they don't have the big C word.
Now, I know this is sickening. You do not want to go. You're like, "I'm [music] fine. The world is good." Well, guess what?
You are not always okay. Just because you feel fine does not [music] mean deep down you are fine, okay? So, go find a gynecologist. If you know someone >> [music] >> who's had this, you have a family member, maybe your aunt, your mother, sister, whoever, tell them to go. [music] Go with them. Be their their their support person. Help [music] them make it.
Because we need more people making it out here.
