Successful business ownership requires fundamental financial literacy, including understanding cash flow, break-even points, and expense management, combined with strong leadership skills such as clear communication, accountability, and consistent enforcement of professional standards. Without these core competencies, even passionate entrepreneurs risk business failure, as demonstrated by a salon owner who operated for 3.5 years without a business plan, failed to pay bills on time, and allowed staff to engage in gossip and unprofessional behavior, ultimately leading to the business's closure.

"She looks like a F*CKING peacock!" Tabatha takes on TERRIBLE salon!
Added:You can't support a business or a child on vodka. This isn't a barter system, Miriam. It's a business.
>> Is that my little pig? Oh dear. Do you find yourself in need of a little blonde creature telling you, "No, this is not how YOU RUN A SALON."
>> THE GOVERNMENT.
>> Do you know how to run a salon? It's time for another Tabitha takes a wig off. Also known as Tabitha Takes Over.
>> What is this?
That's disgusting. It's been a little while since we've done one of these, hasn't it, Biscuit?
Oh, am I boring you? Do you have somewhere to be? Do you have an appointment, boy? Okay, I'M GOING TO PUT YOU little piggly. I'm going to put you on your little pillow cuz it's a bit too hot for you to be sitting on my lap. I'm already overheating.
One of the most beloved series here on the Chanel where a rather powerful platinum bipixie lesbian comes in and says actually >> die.
>> And you know what for the most time for the most for the for the most part I actually agree with a lot of takes she has having worked within the beauty industry myself I have it on good authority but today's episode is another example of why are you doing this to yourself? Why are you doing this to your staff? And why do you think you deserve a successful business without doing anything successful for your business? Well, my lovelies, if you do not know me, my name is Luxeria, and here we react to vintage reality TV shows, including hairdresser drama from the late 2000s. Well, my lovelies, make sure you're sitting down comfortably.
Grab yourself a beverage. I don't know where my lid's gone. No idea. So, it's come along now, girly wigs, without a lid. Available now in the description box below. Pop your little ah hanger right into the tab of the hole and let's watch Tabitha tear someone a new one.
Tabitha types a tax return.
>> Hi everyone, get >> secret to turning a struggling into the tornado.
>> Me. I'm Tabitha. I'm going to change everything. I will clean up the management. I'm so done with excuses.
Shake up the staff.
>> Physically shake the baby. Shake the baby.
>> Every part of the salon there's a problem.
>> I'm tough. I'm talented. I'm taking over.
>> I'm dressed as a race. Okay, let me turn the volume up because I am hard of hearing. Do you know this is my birthday month? It's my birthday. Actually, I think the day this comes out is my birthday.
We got Ref Refuge. Refuge Refuge Salon.
Oh no. Right. Silver Lake, California.
California CA is California, isn't it?
Yes. Three and a half years in the business. Three and a half years. They must have some modicum of business sense to be there for three and a half years. Unless of course you're what do you call it? An initial investment plan. Oh, she's a banker. No.
NO. HOW DARE YOU SPEAK TO ME?
ANYWAY, a very Digimon sound.
>> Thanks, Tabitha.
>> Okay. Could you please >> Oh, she means business cuz she's got a purple sleeve. You know what that means in the hanky code.
>> Could you please come outside and meet me?
>> Center part today. Oh no. I've been watching Miriam and her staff on surveillance cameras all day.
>> Oh, a denim tunic and combat boot on for blur.
>> Oh my god.
>> All day. And now I want to show her what I've seen.
>> Hi Miam.
>> Hi Tabitha.
>> Nice to meet you.
>> Don't bring.
>> You asked my help and here I am.
>> Okay.
>> It's like a miracle.
>> Really? Yes.
>> We'll see how miraculous it is at the end.
>> All right.
Oh, this is very like Lily Allen wedding hair. Very Lily Allen. In fact, so far I'm getting quite a lot of like Lily Allen vibes.
>> Right. The salon undercover.
>> Have a seat, Miam. Hurry.
>> Yes. Sit down.
>> Why don't you tell me what what is going on?
>> I don't know where to begin.
>> Okay.
>> I'm I'm buried in a pile of problems. I don't know which one to tackle first.
>> I mean, how did you open the I couldn't handle working at my job and I wanted to leave so bad. Okay.
>> So, you opened up a business because you couldn't handle your job and you didn't like where you worked.
>> Yeah.
>> Yes.
>> Okay. Well, without additional context, that kind of sounds relatable for a lot of people. I think a lot of us actually, a lot of what's the word? A lot of like small business ideas and small entrepreneurship kind of start with the dissatisfaction of perhaps like as an example a 9-to-f5. like the idea of feeling a bit in a dead end space, a dead end job or career path or education or something, and we think, do you know what? I've got the opportunity to do something big here. I'm going to snatch it. Outside of the context of this show, that actually sounds quite um relatable.
I'm going to say relatable. A lot of people don't enjoy their I've had jobs where I'm like, "This is the worst thing I've ever had to do. I don't like this.
STOP IT IMMEDIATELY. I'M NEVER SHOPPING IN VHS AGAIN." THAT'S the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard.
>> Do you have a business plan?
>> Oh, no. There's never been a business plan. I've had this place for 3 and 1/2 years. But do you have any idea how much money you bring in making about Are you even a hairdresser? This is the thing, isn't it? This is We don't know yet. We don't know much about this story except three and a half years in business, no business plan, no pissing idea by the sounds of it, and also didn't like her job. Now, we we w we aren't privy yet to why she doesn't like the job or didn't like the job. Maybe it was bad boss.
Maybe it was something else. Leslie, you got to have a business plan. If you're going to have a business, you got to have a business plan. Anyway, if I keep stopping, we're going to take 3 hours.
>> But do you have any idea how much money you bring into your salon? I'm making about 5,000 a month. Do you know how much you need to break even?
>> It's about 7,000 a month.
>> So, how do you pay your bills? I call my landlord and I'm like, I can't. Can you just let me pay more of the rent next month? My payroll doesn't get met. So then I'm just telling my employees, I'm really sorry. Just wait like two weeks on your check.
It's a constant.
>> We've seen this before. Pay your employees. Pay your artists. Pay your employees. Do not expect if you wouldn't work for free, don't expect others to >> put that on a mug and drink it.
>> Mama, this mug personal bills. Oh, that's a whole another thing. I mean, I pay money on my rent right now. I have a 10-year-old daughter and I'm the sole person responsible for her. I can't get kicked out.
>> So, you're a single mother.
>> You have a 10-year-old daughter and you >> She's a lesbian mom of six. It's already hard to start a business. Even if you're like the most able-bodied, capable, well-connected person, it's already tough to run a successful business in that, you know, the in you can you can be you can have you can hear all of the What's happening to me?
No, you can have the list of like perfect things happen and still a business can fail. So when you start adding in extra complications, the the the the veil starts to slip. No, that sounds like she's passing over. Her spirit has returned from beyond the grave.
>> Getting eviction notices on your apartment.
>> I'm so far in over my head that I don't even know where what my next move is.
Well, how long do you think you can survive?
>> I don't think Tabitha can help this.
>> Does have to close down. Maybe if I really hustle, maybe a month.
>> One month from have to close the doors of your business.
>> That by the time Tabitha comes back, you're going to be gone.
>> Pack your belongings and leave.
>> Yeah. I mean, we're really on the edge right now.
>> Takes a for grown up stuff.
>> Okay.
>> Why don't we watch what happened?
>> Okay. So, actually Tabitha there has been a lot more softer. Usually, she's a bit LIKE, "WHAT ARE YOU DOING, YOU SILLY OLD T?" CLEARLY, the story was a little bit more um intense than perhaps Tabitha has seen previously. So, I did detect a modicum of like softness for her situation, which I mean, if if you met a woman and she explained her life like this to you, you would be soft, wouldn't you? You'd want to create like a soft, welcoming environment for her to share.
You wouldn't BE LIKE, "WELL, IT'S ALL YOUR FAULT MUCK," WOULD YOU? WELL, I don't know yet. You never know. A lot of things can happen in 43 minutes and 23 seconds. Ian, seriously, nobody has time for this person.
>> I'm booked, too, till the end of the day. I don't know why you're coming to me about this live show.
>> Okay, so Ian refused to do the client's hair. So, did you walk around and try and find a stylist to accommodate the client?
>> I told her to go talk to Karen. She's the manager. Do you know what Karen did?
>> No.
>> Do I book an appointment for >> Yeah, just say, um, Karen at Refuge wants to send a client over because she can't.
>> Um, yeah.
>> Okay. Karen booked the client an appointment at another salon.
>> Wow.
>> Let's keep watching.
>> Yes. When do you need to be gone?
>> I said 2:00.
>> Okay. Did you remember to lie to me and tell me 15 minutes different? I tell you that for a reason.
>> No.
>> So, you have to say 2:15.
>> Okay. So, I'm sorry. I meant 2:15.
>> Are you kidding me?
>> She's telling a client when the client says she needs to be out at a specific time. Did you lie to me? Well, that happens a lot with Michelle. I know that's a problem because >> So, hang on. So, Karen and Michelle are both being very odd employees here. I don't think I've ever heard something so bizarre. Unless something has gone so catastrophically wrong in a salon. I don't think I've ever heard of someone being like, "You know what? We'll book you into a rival place. See you later."
Have you ever heard of that? I mean, perhaps like within the same umbrella of companies, but she doesn't seem like she owns a chain of hairdressers. Imagine that happening in a restaurant. Oh, I'm sorry. We can't sit you for your luxurious steak experience today. Would you like to go next door to KFC?
>> Because our clients sit in the front room waiting for hours sometimes.
>> No, you can't do that.
>> Three and a half hours with that client.
>> You can't be doing that.
>> I That's unacceptable. You know, even in my book and my standards are not very high acceptable. So, let's keep going.
>> Letter that pretty much states that she was really, really unhappy with her service. Have a problem with that.
>> These all look like the same woman through the pixels.
>> Can't have unhappy clients walking around.
>> I swear to God, I'm not going to do something that looks ugly.
>> I'm done. Take care of it. What's going on here?
>> It was a two-page letter about how she hated her hair. Who was the stylist that did the client's hair? Jessica.
>> Jessica.
>> I love that drink.
>> It's always Jessica, isn't it?
>> Jessica Alves.
>> You can go read it. It's in office.
>> It's a two-page letter about how she up this woman's highlights.
>> Professional behavior from the owner of the salon.
>> Well, I mean, everybody already knew about it somehow.
>> You are totally humiliating your stylist.
>> You're bad mouthing one of your employees in front of the other one. And then you're kind of treating it like a joke. Oh, Jessica totally fucked up the woman's hair. You can go and read the letter. It's on my desk. Really? She sounds a little bit like um is it valley girl where everything's a bit like not serious. Like it's not really that important. Everything's just kind of like not little like it's just no, you know, like she totally up. It's just not, you know, it's just not a thing really, is it? I think one of the first things I was ever taught about working in the beauty industry, and this is probably something that has been reignited throughout my career is a client's personal image is the most important thing. So, if someone has like extra long hair and they want to keep it long, they just want perhaps a little bit of styling, you don't give them a pixie cut and say, "Well, it's fine. You know, it's it's not that serious."
And read the letter. It's on my desk.
Really?
What are you 15?
>> Yeah, it does feel a bit juvenile.
>> I have no answer for that. You can't continue, especially down this path.
It's ridiculous. Let's keep watching.
I'm >> I'm with the Department of Water and Power.
>> Okay.
>> Department of Water.
>> So, explain to me what's I love this girl's black and white hair. I had this a long, long time ago. Probably actually when this was filmed. I've always absolutely loved Kruella hair and it's actually quite difficult to maintain, BUT IT'S SO MUCH FUN. ACTUALLY, I'VE GOT THE little story about when I did work in my last salon that I worked in. So, we are talking like 21 years ago. Old, no, maybe more like 20. There was this like mid20s guy who was like a star stylist of this company that I worked at. And the company that I worked at had about five hairdressers in Brighton, like hairdressing shops, hair shops. I'm not going to say the name, although I think the owner has passed away actually. So, he had a black and white mohawk and my god was he gorgeous.
Gorgeous. And my first ever day on the job was a conference. We had to go to a conference in London somewhere. I had to I had to be at the bus stop at 5:00 a.m.
And this this this hairdresser guy got so drunk. So drunk at this conference later that day. And he was very flirtatious, but I was very young. God, perhaps I shouldn't be divulging that.
Oh no. But unfortunately, he was just drunk and straight. So, and at the time I was neither.
>> What an awful story.
>> Explain to me what's going on here. The bill collectors coming in from what? The power company.
>> Yeah.
>> I need to collect them a balance so that they don't >> outstanding balance.
>> Perhaps you could pay them with a nice set of WS.
>> What if I don't have it?
>> Imagine being filmed going through this 100.
>> Can't pay. We'll put you in a wig.
>> Managing your money.
you would know that I need to take care of this before they come to shut it down. I guess that's the big problem is I don't know how to manage the money.
>> I have to tell you, I've seen enough.
It's absolutely ridiculous. Why aren't you Why are you in this? Why are you doing all this? If you don't like the job that you work in, I can guarantee you that owning your own business is more stressful and more work than working like a typical 9 to5 cuz you don't get to switch off. But the the payoff is that you hopefully enjoy running your own business more than working in a a job that makes you feel very unsatisfied. But running a business requires a lot of effort, a lot of work, and a lot of different hats. Wigs, some might say. One of those wigs is being able to understand the flow of money, your cash flow in, out, expenses, employees, etc. Girly wigs >> taking over taking over.
Long keys. I hate that chair transformation. It's very upsetting.
It's like Transformers but gay.
>> Hello. Hi. You can get up and come in here, please. Hello.
>> A towel.
>> We all just drop.
>> Oh, that moment.
>> Love to see.
>> I'm Tabitha and >> she could not.
>> I'm taking over.
>> Gagged. Oh, look.
>> I canled all your appointments.
>> She looks so cool. So I love the love the look. Love it so much.
>> I have cancelled all your appointments for the week and in that week everything will change >> and at the end of the week >> copper >> some of you may still have a job >> and some of you may die.
>> Wow.
>> I have been watching how Tabitha tells the tape.
watching you all day. And uh let me tell you, I saw all of you guys ignore clients and bitch about each other. I saw some shoddy work.
>> Well, no one was really unhappy with their hair.
>> Really? Except for the client that walked out because you didn't look for anyone else in your salon to cut it. So, you'd prefer to call another salon and send the client behavior.
>> I mean, does that make sense?
>> Obscene behavior.
>> It's no wonder you're not making any money at this rate. Well, >> you're not in charge of your staff.
You're definitely not in charge of your business and you all need to take some responsibility for the problems that are in here tomorrow morning.
>> I agree. I agree. I think >> it might be quite different in the US compared to where I'm used to working in the UK when it comes to like hairdressing roles. If you're not on the payroll, quite often you are like a rent chair. You're rent you rent a chair and you have your own clients. If you don't put the work in, you don't make money.
You don't get to pay rent. You don't get to buy food. And I know it's even more complicated when it comes to like US roles because they you have things intrinsically linked to your employment such as healthcare insurance, which is like I'm not saying you have to be the number one best woman in the world at hair. But if you've chosen to be in an industry, you kind of have to show up for your work, right? You do. There were some days when I was working for my degree in biochemistry where I was like, "This day is just not it. Not it. I'm not enjoying it. I don't want to do this. I'm going to cry now." And even on those days where I couldn't give 100%, I tried to do my best. Even if my best was like 12% that day.
>> 9:00 a.m. We're having a staff meeting.
>> Staff meeting everybody.
>> And don't be late.
>> Don't be late.
>> And Miriam, I want you to uh take me on a tour of the place.
>> There's something about Miriam, >> right?
>> This would be the retail area. I take it. boots >> with no retail. Really?
>> I've had no money to replenish the retail.
>> There's bleach stuck all in this dryer.
>> Oh, we don't have any money for cleaning, lady.
>> You have two arms and some cleaning product and a salon full of stylists.
>> I mean, >> have you looked down here?
>> We try not to clean. Keep your workstation clean.
>> A makeup artist wouldn't be expected TO HAVE A CLEANER.
>> OH, NO.
>> CLEARLY, no one is responsible for cleaning their own station.
>> And look at this.
I mean, that's just like a hair ball off the floor right there.
>> Oh my god.
>> Sweet much sweet.
>> Oh, this is nice.
>> Oh no. Oh dear.
>> Oh god, >> that's nice. Who's that?
>> Someone was obviously drinking beer and then just let it sit on the floor. Our clients come back to us because we give them alcohol.
>> Oh, >> it's the glue that holds refuge together.
>> Right. I see.
>> This is my You don't want to take me in here, do you?
>> No. It's um >> she likes a cocky tea or three.
>> Um where we store the bills the office.
>> What's this? Oh, nice.
>> My plan with that.
>> Your car pays you with vodka.
>> Yes, he works for vodka company.
>> I mean, are you >> You know, are you kidding me? You can't support a business or a child on vodka.
This isn't a B system, Miriam. It's a business. Mary won't think she's so >> I mean she is kind of on the game there, right? You can't just expect to supply an entire business with vodka. However, I do think there is room for exchange of trade. What's it called?
>> Fresh and organized for the trade.
Honey, let's go see what monstrosities.
What atrocities interesting atrocities we can find at the Daiso Japan, baby. If you're in a position with a within a like an individual's business, you can do like swapsies for things, you can do like little swapsies and maybe like a huge bottle of vodka like that would be more than a typical men's haircut perhaps. I would imagine so. A big bottle like that. What would that be in the club? 17,000 USD.
What a bargain. I'm a lesbian mom of six.
>> But the fundamental point of a business, especially if you have employees, is to make money. If you're working for yourself, I guess you can do it for like the passion, the passion, the passion, the passion of Christ. But that has to be a hit that you're willing to take, not force other people to take.
>> Think she's so cool and hip when she's lost her business and her ass is sitting on the street.
>> Her body her body slit. Outdoor body slit.
>> After all the unprofessional behavior I saw yesterday, I wanted to sit down with staff and get their point of view.
>> Right.
Let's all break out the Belvadier first.
Really kick this off.
>> The reason I wanted to have a meeting and speak to all of you is to try and get to the bottom of actually what is going on and what the problems are.
>> Antique bottom.
>> Ian, why don't you tell me some of the things that are going on in this salon?
>> Yes.
>> I've come into the phone shut off. I've come in with the gas company following me in with their tool ready to shut the gas off if I don't pay them.
>> That's pretty extreme, right?
>> Absolutely. There's no money to pay the bills. I don't know. How does she cover the rent? I don't know. I've had to use my own money as well to um restock the drinks for the clients.
>> Are you all paid on time?
>> Nope.
>> Absolutely not.
>> Tell me about that, Veronica.
>> Um I'm on average paid one to two weeks late and >> Okay. So, so far she's like the youngest staff in terms of experience that we've we've got on the team. Some of these people have like 10 years experience.
That is crazy to be working for someone with three and a half years open, but like no, it sounds like no experience at running a successful business. Where did she where I would love to know how Miriam managed to fund a business without being able to fund that? Like what does that mean? Miriam Nily Miriam.
>> And that's if my check clears.
>> Okay.
>> My question to you is why would you stay?
>> Yeah. Because for some messed up reason, I care about this place. Okay.
>> Who else cares about this salon?
>> What? Oh, >> that's a start.
>> Oh, it's not going to be around.
>> So, tell me about Miriam and what kind of boss she is?
>> I don't know. I feel like she's absent most of the time.
>> I feel like when you approach her, it doesn't sink in.
>> Every time I go to talk to her about something, she just looks annoyed.
Karen, >> she wants us to be the cool shop that serves beer.
>> You all seem to want to be a very like burger bar. We do things a bit different here. The truffle fries are an additional $11. But truffle fries are pretty good, aren't they? You can pry them. Jenz, if you're here, I don't know how many of you are here. You can pry my millennial truffle fries from my cold dead hands. Delicious. You You can absolutely take the overpriced burger bars, though. who want to be the uber cool silver lake hipster hairdressers.
We can all be cool >> and run it replacement business.
>> The staff really don't respect Miriam as an owner as a boss, >> but she also take care of any of the problems.
>> I want to see the work in this place so I have clients coming in >> so I can assess your work.
>> So get your stations ready. The clients will be here in a minute.
>> On the game, let's see.
Hi, my name's Mimosa beige. I'm Miriam.
>> I just kind of want to keep it brown and get rid of the blonde underneath. I want to definitely color correction.
>> Have the highlights in a more brown tone, >> but light enough that they can obviously be seen.
>> Yeah, definitely.
>> Oh, how awkward. She wants to get rid of the light color today. What are you feeling like?
>> I wouldn't mind getting my roots on me.
>> It's a color today.
>> It's a color today.
>> Okay.
Does it matter that I've never really done highlights?
>> You're a stylist, right?
>> I was terrified. I'm slowly starting to do coloring. When you're new and fresh at something, you're a little bit nervous.
>> Sorry.
>> Uh, fantastic name, MIMOSA.
>> CHEERS TO THAT.
>> THAT GO. I I I very much find it bizarre that in the 2000s where chunky piano highlights were done every single day, multiple times a day, multiple times an hour, that a stylist with six years experience has never done highlights.
You could be dead.
>> How what were you doing, sweetie? A >> little bit nervous.
>> Tell me what you like about this.
>> I kind of like the red, but maybe a little bit lighter. I would love to stay with sort of like the auburn reds right up through those coppers and copper golds and those are those sort of orangey reds and the warm tones will be really nice and harmonious with your skin tone.
>> We'll do more of a dusting today. Really works sort of the internal shape of your hair. Give you something new and exciting.
>> I can't take it anymore. I get distracted by this because I feel like you're showcasing something. You just kept talking and talking. You could have condensed it down two sentences. So, you like copper? I totally agree with you because it would look great on your skin. It's a dialogue. It's a conversation.
>> Okay.
>> I mean, I understand that, but some people are just a chatter box, aren't they? Some people are just chatter, chatter, chatty, Kathy, chat, chat, chat, chat, chat. And that's fine.
That's part of something that I don't really agree with Tabitha is. She's like, never show emotion for anything ever, which I don't agree with because you need emotions to be able to process actually being human. And also, she doesn't like a chatter box. That might be just like an Australian thing, maybe.
I don't know. I don't I haven't met many Australians in real life. Unless you can call this one. I don't mind a bit of a chatty, Kathy. As long as there there is a direction to the uh to the chatting, you know, as long as you get everything that you want out of it. In fact, actually, I would rather someone ask me too many questions about what I want than not enough at all. Maybe that's just me, though. Maybe that's just me, girls.
>> Thank you.
>> I would like it a little bit longer though. Keep as much length as I can. I know it needs it's that split end, so it obviously needs to be cut off.
>> The client obviously knows what she wants, which is great. And she's kind of again taken control of it as opposed to you taking control of it. If you're a professional hairdresser, be one.
>> Okay.
>> Well, isn't she an owner?
>> I got a little bit of help in order to get it all done in a timely manner to go around, do the base uh retouch, then go through and do some foils. So, you're going to do the foils while the retouch is on, >> right?
>> And who would give you that kind of information?
>> It was Miriam.
>> You're much better to put your foils in now and then go in between your foils with your base color and that way everything will process at once. So, >> well, that makes more sense. So, then I have more control over the hair as well.
>> More control over the hair.
>> It's also less stress on the hair >> and everything will process at once in a timely manner.
>> I was disappointed that Miriam gave Mimosa the wrong color formula. So, I went into the break room to confront her.
>> Oh, >> you told her to do the roots and then put the foils in. You shouldn't put bleach over the top of hair color.
>> Yes, I agree.
>> Bleach eats through anything. It eats through clothes.
>> Exactly. And it also eats through hair.
>> I do it all the time.
>> Lightener.
>> Yeah. Bleach. Hair bleach >> and hair color are two totally different things. They're not meant to be mixed together.
>> They are. I know. That's the, you know, rule. But it rules are you break.
>> You know what? Don't make >> No, sweetie. No. It's chemistry 101. You don't mix things of opposites together in case something untoward happens.
Always read the instructions. Sure, some rules are there to be, you know, bent if you know what you're doing. It's the same thing with Ollex, isn't it? Like Ollex can in theory help prevent breakage whilst in a bleaching or color service, but in the same way that you wouldn't put a seat belt on and drive off a cliff, it's not going to protect from everything, is it? Uh, is this woman even qualified?
No, no. See, this is where it becomes like, how can you be a good leader and a good educator if you aren't?
>> No.
>> You know what? Don't be passive aggressive with me and don't ask me and challenge me because if you tell me that you teach hairdressers and this is how you teach them. All you're teaching them is laziness and bad habits, which is why your business is in such a mess.
>> Take that paper comb. Oh dear.
>> Tabitha is definitely the biggest bitch I've ever met.
>> I mean, is it cuz she's telling you things?
>> I don't even think she can meet those standards.
>> Well, let's see.
>> Should we have a race today?
>> Probably a lot longer than you'd like.
I'm thinking it will probably take about 2 hours total from the moment I started putting color on.
>> Why don't you tell me the truth?
Realistically, how long do you think it's going to take? between two hours 15 minutes and two and a half hours from when I started.
>> Hang on, hang on, hang on. Jesus Christ.
>> Well, you're gonna yell at me if I go over.
>> There's a good possibility that if you do something wrong, I'll be yelling at you anyway. So, >> I mean, drama all over her.
>> It's all over her neck.
>> That was in the back yelling at me and she laughed and I was like, >> uhoh, you're in trouble now.
>> Yeah, this is not what you doing. I walk away for 5 minutes, Miriam, and you've got like the girls in here gossiping.
Clearly, there's a problem. I don't do gossiping and bitching in my salon.
Everything's laid on the table and up front, so everyone knows where they stand. I mean, that's a very important thing. The thing is, I have worked in Oh, hang on. I have worked in uh businesses where this kind of happens.
In fact, it happened at that salon that I mentioned earlier, and I was kind of a bit bullied. I was very young and I sort of didn't I had to take some time off because I was really ill. And when I came back, one of these hideous people, this hideous woman called Georgia was like, "You took time off >> when you were ill." Well, her over there, she had her throat out and she was in.
>> And it was just like, "You're not my boss. You're just some junior. Don't talk to me like that." It was awful.
Now, if I met her, I'd be like, "Shut up, Georgia." But at the time, I just remember thinking like, "Oh, they're going to go and talk about me over there." And they did. And I was like, I don't know. It's just all a lot to deal with as a young person. So, don't make your work environments toxic. Everyone has to be there. Everyone has to be in the workplace. Everyone that works has to go to the pissing workplace. Why make it awful when you can make it delightful? Sour.
>> Sour. Susan, >> your foils actually look good for someone that doesn't foil.
>> Oh, >> I just have to start. I have to learn the basics first in order to break.
>> Right. But you but you're learning those now and you're doing a good job. So, just think about how the hair falls and it will help you how to place the color.
>> Yeah. Okay. Thank you.
How was everyone doing?
>> Lovely. Nothing that could be improved upon.
>> No, I didn't see anything. Nikki looks like she's doing okay.
>> And Karen does too, but I didn't check on the other people. Why don't you check on that?
>> Okay.
>> It's called being a boss.
>> Something you need to work on.
>> Miriam isn't a bad hairdresser, but she's a terrible manager and thinks she's so cool she doesn't have to follow the rules. Yeah, she's like cool as a cucumber, sedated.
>> She wants to save her business.
>> You know, like when when men are like, "Oh, I'm just really laidback. I just don't do it. I'm just so I'm just laidback, really chill." I can't stand that. I've never been laidback about anything in my life. I can't When someone's like, "Oh, I don't really mind. I'm just laidback. I just So, what do you get passionate about? Nothing.
What can you do quickly?" If you don't have a passion for what you're doing as a business owner, it's going to make running that business even harder.
Passion is one of those things that like drives you. It's the also one of the reasons why it doesn't even have to be a business. People with hobbies have like passions. You don't have to have monetary compensation to really enjoy something. It just doesn't I just I I cannot be around that environment of like I'm so laid-back that nothing matters and I just don't care. Bye. You know, like life is the single most longest experience that you personally will ever have. So why not make some decisions to make it great along the way? Hey, why not?
>> Are you doing um highlights to give her some brightness?
>> Yes. What we're doing is sort of like a primer just to even everything out, bring everything up. So, we're going to go through after that. We're going to put in foils of a high list.
>> Is she drinking beer?
>> We're going to put in foils.
>> Wait, this isn't the only process you're doing?
>> No. And how long do you think it's going to take?
>> Well, I quoted 2 hours. You actually quoted 2 hours over half an hour ago.
>> Yes. I'm really trying to work on my time management.
>> 4 and 1/2 days.
>> I like the hair.
>> How much heavier that is. You can see a notable difference from side to side.
So, you really Work on cross checking your haircuts >> and work on the balance and shape of them.
>> Tell me what you think.
>> It's a bit una beforehand.
>> Yeah, it does feel a bit unbalanced, but also she seems to have like a like a wave on this side and not on this side.
So I don't I don't I don't know. I don't know.
>> Well, tell me what do you think of the color?
>> She says she likes it. So, >> do you like it?
>> That was my next question. So, okay.
>> I love it. Oh, >> consider you've done >> foils before.
>> You did a really great job.
>> Tabitha is saying, "You know what? You actually did a really good job."
>> Good job, Mimosa.
>> Insanely awesome.
>> Oh, >> 10 minutes.
>> The wig is a bit of a giveaway.
>> What would Olympia call this?
>> Cass.
>> 10 minutes I gave you. And that was about half an hour ago.
>> We're done with everything but the styling. Michelle struggled to stay on time and it's costing Miriam money.
Miriam needs to manage Michelle to make her business successful.
>> Okay.
>> See the weight that you have left through here?
>> Yes. I wanted to soften the layers here that were very heavy.
>> Can you see that? That it's uneven. Has taken 4 hours and you're still not finished.
>> It has.
>> Oh goodness.
What's going on here?
>> WHAT'S GOING ON HERE THEN?
>> SORRY. This has taken 4 hours. Four of your American hours. Four of them. 240 minutes. I don't understand. What would you call that haircut? I don't understand.
>> I I just I I don't I don't understand.
Okay.
>> I learned a lot about your work today. A lot of you have really, really bad habits. Not taking stains off clients.
Not cross-checking your haircuts.
>> Just lazy habits. So, tomorrow we are going to start to change all that. Oh, are we?
>> Based on the work that I saw today, >> Miriam is so focused on being the cool salon, she's letting her staff get away with murder.
>> Murder?
>> You could be bad.
>> Oh, little dog.
>> After everything that I've seen the past couple of days, I don't think Miriam gets it at all. It was time for me to give Miriam a wake up.
>> Oh, is that her sign? She's >> wanted her to feel sensible.
>> There is something about colored leggings, isn't there? Colorful leggings. I know some people like them, but whenever I've worn them, it's a bit like, "Hello, I teach art at the school for gnomes."
>> I really wanted her to feel and see what it would be like if she went out of business.
>> Hi, Talitha. How are you? I'm good. How are you?
>> Going out of business.
>> Yeah, it feel >> This is what it'll look like if you don't start, you know, taking control of your business >> in one month. Oh, it was this is just horrific, traumatizing, you know, visual to see all the signage just going out of business, liquidation sale, and >> oh, horrible.
>> Well, that's reality.
>> Every time I try to sit down with you and tell you about your business, it feels like such a joke to you. Turn around over her bumpet.
>> You've got bill collectors knocking on your door. They're calling your salon. I haven't seen you take any of it seriously. I'm taking it seriously now.
You want me to break down and cry? No way. I'm >> asking you to break down and cry.
>> I'm asking to. This is This is a challenge and right now I'm fixing it.
If you keep going the way you are and you can't even balance a checkbook and you don't even know what money you owe, this is what it will look like.
>> Yeah. How did she get into this position? How did she end up running a business like this? I would love to know. Oh, I like that job.
>> Hi, everyone.
>> How did she >> Good morning. How >> business?
>> How did she get find herself in a scenario where she's running a business but also going out?
>> We need to do a lot of work to fix it.
>> Coming to work >> like her medieval coin purse. Three shillings for the pig.
>> Coming to work this morning and then going out of business signs. It was embarrassing.
>> Come on.
>> Yeah, I can imagine. Also a bit like, "Oh no, don't look at me."
>> Oh, no way.
>> Uh Well, there you go.
>> It really is a very scary thought because there's my empty salon. The whole mess that I've created and it's literally, >> you know, one sign away from going out of business and is our only hope.
>> This is pretty much what a salon >> went out of business looks like. It really showed us how >> dire the situation is under smokey eye.
>> How important it is to get our acts together.
>> Sad and >> empty. Sad. sad. It's depressing. It's embarrassing.
>> Yeah, it's embarrassing.
>> And it's not going to happen.
>> We are going to do whatever it takes to save the business.
>> Okay, but are we are we going to Hang on. Are we going to take on the people earlier who were not who who the managers who booked someone else to some other salon? Where where is she? Is that the lady that's just spoken? Karen. They were like, "What's Karen doing?" We haven't seen anything about Karen.
>> It's not going to be my reality.
>> Well, this won't have to check at the end. Wait. So, you know what? Maybe it is time to tear down those signs.
>> Tear it all down. Tear crash the system.
Tear it all down. Happy Pride Month. Oh my god. I want to rip the signs down and it was just overwhelming.
>> Oh yeah. Also, happy Pride Month, everybody. I hope you're all having a lovely Pride. I went to Tormolino's Pride weeks ago. Oh my goodness me. I still feel it now.
>> Old down. And then I just was super motivated to >> Okay, so we're already getting to like upswing like >> what do you call it?
>> Recombination. No, that's recombinant DNA. What am I talking about? Redemption story line. Goodness, that word was hard to find.
I decided to take Miriam and her staff to a photo shoot for a local photo. I love a rock and roll reputation in their Silver Lake neighborhood. Palmer Sanders is a photographer that I've worked with many times.
>> Suddenly, we're getting very America's Next Top Model.
>> Is going to shoot the cover and you guys are going to be doing all the hair for everyone.
>> Oh, fun. Oh, fun. Love it.
>> That's awesome. I needed to see if Miriam could be a boss and communicate clearly with her staff. So, I put her in charge of styling the photo shoot.
>> Miriam, I really want you to step up.
>> She has that style, though. And really the staff and be the artistic director of the photo shoot.
>> My job was the art director of the shoot and I'm nervous because Tabitha's standards are way too high. I know you already have a vision somewhat of what it Okay.
>> But think about like best ties kind of a consistent look for the guys.
>> Okay.
>> And the girls do then over the top.
Definitely >> because you want something that's over the top and kind of worthy >> of a CD cover as well. Okay.
>> Okay. I got the gist. Thank you very much. Okay.
>> Wait. I got the gist is not >> I got the gist.
>> Red.
>> Um I'm playing it safe might be the word I was thinking of when I look around right now.
Okay.
>> So, maybe cranking it up. Definitely going just a little bit over the top.
>> It's definitely going to show better for us when we start shooting.
>> Okay. All right.
>> So, scene hair up big >> straight from him. We need to amp it up a little bit.
>> Okay.
>> A little bit. We need to have something interesting going on. Whatever the look is, refine it. Make it polish. You want a polished street look. What's I don't understand that.
>> No, no, no.
>> You want something that's edgy.
>> Yes.
>> Super polished.
>> He said to me he's looking for more science.
>> That wasn't quite it.
>> Well, this is what H said some of the hair was looking a bit boring.
>> Oh, it has to because it has to read on print, >> it has to be brought out a little bit and purposeful.
>> So, if it's going to be wrecked, it's going to be really wrecked. It has to have an intention behind it, not like a girl just walked on and stood there for a photo shoot.
>> Miriam struggled to communicate Hummer's vision to her staff and the work suffered.
>> What do you think of Miriam?
>> It's a bit child's place for me.
>> What? I can see you're not all that excited. What's going on?
>> It doesn't look over the top and like, oh my god, it's >> Oh no.
I think that might be the thumbnail right there. What is that? Oh, it's like Triny got hold of a cutia wig stuck in the drain.
>> Oh no. Oh no.
>> The top end like Oh my god, it's over the top. Fabulous. It just looks kind of amateur.
>> Okay. Like you've just got a bunch of hair extensions and kind of stuck them in. Miriam's model looked like a peacock was crawling out of her ear.
Doesn't seem like she >> Okay, now >> whichever girls are ready >> out of her depth.
>> Depth become >> straight to me. All right.
>> Okay. Fauxhawk.
>> Just kind of an attitude. Just kind of like I don't care attitude.
>> See what she's doing. It's not really doing anything.
>> Vulva. Absolute vulvacious behavior.
just be like, >> "Are you my outer lip?" Because that is mature a girl.
>> What?
>> Mature. She really doesn't think that she can fail. And that has to change if she's going to save this business.
>> Hold these for me, please.
>> Oh, >> put your head down for me.
>> Yeah. Come on.
>> Show us how it's done. Just getting a little flatter, America, when you're >> Huh? What did you say?
>> It was just kind of flattening as you're working it. So, we just need to kind of bring it to life a little bit here.
>> Huh? What did you say? That's a little Maybe a little bit. It's looking good, guys. Looks good.
>> That's not casual. That's more like rocker.
>> All right, guys. Here we go, girls.
>> We could have done that. That's nothing.
You're asking for style.
>> Casual.
>> I know.
>> Maybe we can pick a knife.
>> All right.
>> Just one eye.
>> Well, here. Why don't you things you want to criticize?
>> A BORROWED HASSLE.
>> You so fanastic. Why don't you do it?
Cuz I'm done. Miriam's an irresponsible little twid and I am done with her.
>> Stupid little upstart. Isn't something about me?
>> Maybe I feel like everyone's giving me wrong information and yelling at me about not communicating.
>> Looks good.
>> Do you see? Do you feel me or am I off?
Am I crazy?
>> Doing good, girls.
>> What? I don't I don't >> Today I was definitely at fault. You know, Tabitha is our only hope. I had to go find her and get her and have her come help us.
>> Where is she sitting? Oh, she's I was having a little moment.
>> Let's begin with an apology. I'm very very sorry at all for questioning anything that you say. I was complaining because I'm confused as to what is expected out of me at the shoot.
>> First of all, Hummer is a really good friend of mine.
>> It's not a joke to me. I'm not wasting my friend's time or my own time. I stepped in to help it out. The thing that is annoying to me >> Oh my good. Look, you've disheveled her fringe. That's a pixie cut with a problem. Fuck ass. thing that is annoying to me is instead of you communicating with me and saying, "Look, now I really am confused." You wanted to take it to that gossipy thing of, "Oh, well, any I mean, really, any of us could do that."
>> Well, good. Do it. That's why I wanted you to be in charge of it. Okay, I get it now. I really do want to try and help you, but I'm just so done with excuses.
>> She seems a bit >> That's all I've had for days and I'm done. I do think she's she's Miriam is a bit nonchalant and I don't can you run a business being nonchalant. I mean in a creative industry I don't think so. I think with things like God actually I don't think I know any business owner that would be nonchalant about the direction of their business or the work that they produce. Oh that'll do is such like a that's a thing you do for like a signature. That's not a thing you do for LIKE OH THIS BEAUTIFUL ALBUM COVER. Oh that'll do. Like when you're signing papers and you're like oh hang on that one's not you know that's not the best signature I've ever done. That'll do. Do you see? Does that anecdote make any sense at all?
>> Well, like the strappy bit. The strappy bit here. All right.
>> Now, you know, I get it. I up. I'm going to apologize to Hummer for any drama that I may have caused in the photo shoot.
>> Okay.
>> Dude, can I borrow you two seconds?
>> Yes. Okay.
>> Um, just want to say I'm really sorry for any drama or interruption I caused.
No, not at all.
>> We're just, you know, we don't do this, but I, you know, >> yeah, >> want to say I'm sorry.
>> No, it's been great. Yeah, no problem.
>> Thank you.
>> No worries. Sorry.
>> I was impressed that Miriam stepped up and apologized. It was the first time I've seen Miriam grow up and get more serious about her business. And hopefully that will translate into her being a better manager.
>> She's trans.
>> Okay. Well, I mean, didn't Terren style everything. movies in your mind.
>> All right, that's it. Sorry. You have a Hasselblad and this is what you're creating? A tethered Hasselblad and that's the image. This has got it's got to be just like a silly little nonsense photo shoot for this episode. Surely.
Surely, girls. Where would that ever go?
>> All right, that's it.
>> Thank you.
>> Thank you all.
>> Thank you.
>> Good job.
>> Sure. Okay. Yeah, treat yourself.
>> Despite the fact that Miriam and her staff didn't do that well at the photo shoot, >> I renovated the salon to give them a fresh start.
>> Hi.
>> Hello.
>> And we had a re a reconstruction. Not a reconstruction. A renovation.
>> French patio.
>> Oh my god.
>> OKAY, HANG ON. HANG ON. HANG ON. Hang on. HANG ON. HANG ON.
>> LET'S GO. LET'S GO.
>> WHO LET all the peacocks in?
>> You look so happy.
>> I can't see anything.
>> You're really going to cry? I haven't seen anything.
>> This is the most emotional I've seen.
You're really crying.
>> She never cries.
>> So, you want the tour?
>> You know, look, you have a vintage kind of theme in here, which is great. It kept with that. So, >> the sofa, the lamps, the side table, and just kind of feature. that was totally cozy and cute and welcoming. It looked amazing.
>> Not only do you have a brand new front desk >> and of course you have a touch sweet booking system >> that however in the top corner up there that's very decorating sense isn't it?
That's like we found this in a bin. HOW DARE YOU SPEAK TO me >> system is a computer system designed for hairdressing salons.
>> Okay, good. That should have been step one.
>> Product shelves.
>> Product shelf.
filled with one product shelves stocked with product so that you can sell to clients.
>> Okay. All right.
>> And keep hip and cool >> in my any personality.
>> So I needed to give them a salon that reflected their neighborhood. The backwash area obviously painted again with a pop of color. This place really needed some color.
>> Put shelves up here for your towels.
backsplash here. The guitars on there because again it's just kind of cool and you rock and roll. So >> what's this ceiling applique? What's like hanging from the ceiling? Can you see all this? What is all this just like tat and AI slop hanging from the ceiling?
>> Also that follows through. I saw the best salon I've ever seen in my life. It was beautiful. And today from any of you I don't want any gossiping.
>> How old are you in your life, Veronica?
Oh, >> okay.
>> It was beautiful. And today from any of you, I don't want any gossiping. And you know, especially from you, Miriam, if you have an issue with your staff, you need to confront your staff.
>> You need to step up and be the manager.
>> Be like, "No, >> it's about giving clients great hair, a great experience so they come back time and time again.
>> That is exactly what hairdressing is about. Let's be honest, nothing. It doesn't have to be any more complicated than that. Great service, great cut and color. Please come back. You guys have to work together as a team because I do believe that Miriam's ready to make a change for her business.
>> Step up to the salon.
>> Disgusting. All right. Get ready.
>> Evidently not.
>> Foil. She's making mess.
>> And you're with Mimosa today, right?
>> You're having a >> Sean, a member of the band, came into Mimosa for her to color his hair.
>> This was promotion for the band.
>> You do the sideburns. I'll do the sideburns. Yeah. Yeah. He keeps them big, but we we tame them. We'll tame them down.
>> Say in the UK those >> are buggery grips.
>> Tame them down.
>> Take them in a little bit. Clean them up a little bit. Yep.
>> Mutton chops.
>> Oh yeah, cuz literally going like >> Oh, >> I think I need sharpest scissors.
>> Do you want me to help you? I would love to see your techniques. Tabitha showed me some really cool techniques on how to thin out hair.
>> I'm taking it horizontally and vertically >> so the texture is different all the way through.
>> So cool.
>> It was >> underneath the point of ref.
>> That's all I want to do is just work so that I can improve. Michelle's only client today.
>> Michelle's only client today cancelled.
Why does Michelle only have one client today? Her timing is not up to par.
>> So Michelle requested to just do one client.
>> I was unaware of this >> so that I didn't bust her ass on her timing because her timing is atrocious.
>> Oh, >> yeah. Unfortunately, >> as the owner, we need to address it.
>> Okay.
>> I can't believe Michelle had one client booked today. Her bad time management is draining Miriam's finances and negatively affecting her business. It depends what kind of work you're doing.
If you have a platinum client and you're a platinum specialist, then one client a day is kind of normal. But in a fast-paced urban environment, no.
>> For business, >> I'm wondering why you booked only one client.
>> I booked only one client today because I want to make sure that I don't bite off more than I can chew.
>> Booking one client in >> is not effective time management. I also don't feel well today and will work slower because of my hand.
>> What's wrong with your finger?
>> I cut it the other day.
>> Yeah. So, >> it's difficult to hold sections properly with a band-aid on. So, I have >> You are kidding me, right? You have to be absolutely off your rocker. I'm sorry.
>> Off your teddy.
>> Part of our job.
>> Off your breastplate, girl.
>> Is we cut ourselves. So, for you to say that you can't hold a section of hair because you cut your finger the other day because she's not in the room.
>> That is the most ridiculous bloody excuse that I've ever heard.
>> I've cut myself a hundred times in one day and I'm over there busting ass, whipping through some haircuts.
>> But you're not. How are you, Miriam?
That that's not true because you are also running a failing business. So, let's not gang up, but also let's not um let's not indulge too much nonsense.
Should we say >> you're here to make money? One client a day does not make you money and it sure as hell doesn't make Mary money.
>> Would you say that I make less than my fair share?
>> I think that you could make twice as much money. If your clients are being here 4 hours being talked at, it's exhaustive. They don't want to come back and when they go to book another appointment, their first thought is, "Do I have 4 hours?" You ultimately continue to think you can't. I have to make Miam seems to have grown up. I think she's finally realized that she needs to take responsibility.
>> This is only 3 days, though. This is a very interesting dress.
>> We decided to do a gray blending so I can um just tunic a little bit of color.
>> Mimosa was really nervous about coloring the band members hair, but she needs to take color clients to make more money for Miriam and for herself.
>> Yes.
>> Hi, how are you?
>> Fine. Um I just want to get a cut and color.
>> And you don't have an appointment, right?
>> Oh, how lucky. We've got Michelle.
>> Go and find someone for you.
>> Just come in with a purse. Nothing else.
client up front. Since Michelle's only client today cancelled, I decided to give her a walk-in.
>> What did you want to do with your color today?
>> I just want to maybe get it lightened up a little bit.
>> That sounds absolutely fantastic.
>> Did you ask your client if she blowdries her hair? Because I didn't hear you do that and how she styles her hair and what kind of product she puts on.
>> I was trying to keep the consultation short. You know what? They're just more excuses to me. They're the questions that you need to know before you start.
>> What What kind of She said, "I want to lien it up a And she was like, "That's absolutely fantastic." What does that mean? Live lizards in the hair. Or perhaps neon pink. That would lien it up a bit. Or does she just want like a chunkier section of blondie white? Oh, Michelle. Michage. It is one of those things where I'm like, I hate watching someone flounder like out of their depth. And I just feel like she is. And I don't really know a way around that except you kind of need the verve to be able to say, I am totally out of my depth here. I'm going to work towards finding being comfortable in the situations that make me feel a little bit out of depth. Cuz if you put it to like swimming, you can feel a little bit out of depth in the shallow end, but at least you can stand up. If you are feeling out of your depth in the deep end and there is no rescue, that's a very different feeling. I guess that's exactly what being out of your depth means anyway. But you know what I mean.
>> From the minute Tabitha walked in, she was on the war path. She was out for blood. You have six years experience where >> I broke the news, Kim, that we have no beer.
>> Sorry, not today. Not on TV. Come back after dark.
>> But you know what? I'm going to give you though a great haircut.
>> How about that?
>> Today I saw the stylists at Refuge, take their jobs seriously, be more professional, and do much better work.
>> Is it still going to be there? I don't think it's going to be there.
>> Somebody's coming in for Michelle.
>> How long before she's processing set time? Give me.
>> Well, she's currently processing. We're about to put on the toner.
>> When is she totally out of the chair?
>> Totally out of the chair by two.
>> This girl can't turn out one person on time.
>> What's your schedule today?
>> I'm kind of restriction.
>> Oh, crunch.
>> Yeah, looks really good.
>> Right on.
>> She has to go back to work. Oh, no.
>> Good, doesn't it?
>> Yeah.
>> I hope tomorrow.
>> Now you've opened up a whole new window of opportunity.
Thank you. feel awesome.
>> She's very talented.
>> Do you want to come into the office with me so we can talk about my final recommendation >> in her baby doll?
>> Shmese. You're running away from me.
>> No.
>> Run away.
>> Okay.
>> How do you think today went?
>> I felt like everyone participated wholeheartedly today.
>> Okay. Their attitude definitely seemed better. You need to be more active in your business >> so that you can watch what your staff are doing.
>> Right.
>> A bit less than Do you remember the last I think it was the last one? Was it before the last one we saw, was it Browns where the lady was at home watching on her CCTV SENDING MESSAGES BEING LIKE WHERE'S THE MONEY? YOU take perhaps like the tiniest little shred of a leaf from her book and be like, I need to watch what's going on more, but perhaps not to the point where you're obsessively installing CCTV >> responsibility and being grown up. And you did actually show me today that you were capable of that. You give people room to growable by owning this place.
>> Well, and that brings me to my next recommen.
>> Mhm.
>> She has a horrible time management issue.
>> Horrible little girl. She has a real problem with communication because it's definitely on Michelle's side, not >> the client's side.
>> She's got work to do.
>> Clearly know all the problems >> I do >> with Michelle >> very well.
>> You have to look at your livelihood and the best thing for your business.
>> I've literally never fired somebody.
>> Is Michelle going to be fired? Oh no.
>> Do you think she can change?
>> Oh well. Okay.
Oh, >> I wish.
>> Oh dear. Thrown down the whale.
>> To take that haircut that Miriam really wanted me to take cuz I only had 45 minutes. She wanted me to hurry it up.
She said that I was losing her money by having only one client. To me, it's really important that the client feels like a priority.
>> So, gossiping on the ver.
>> I like to make eye contact. Michelle, just take it down 10 notches. Not everybody fits neatly in a slot, but they also know that once they're in my chair, that they're my number one priority.
>> She talks about this side will cascade and this side will meander and I have no idea what she's talking about. And if >> well cascading and meandering are waterfalls and rivers terms, which is fine, but you can say that in a sentence without it becoming a three paragraph uh speech. I do think there is something to be said like I like a little chatty chatty. A little chatty cathy. I don't mind a little chatty cathy. But obviously the work still needs to be done. Oh, are we going to watch Michelle get fired from this gossiping on the ver section >> talking about >> they know that they'll get that same benefit when I'm working on them.
>> The editing is really bad. We just restructure to be the best we can be.
>> Okay. Right. What's >> and I have been sitting down talking about my final recommendations and talking about how we thought you all did today. Miriam has promised me that she is going to step up and be more active in her salon so that she can not only take care, >> she's going to be the dumb top and you're are going to be the needy bottoms.
>> One of the other things that I recommended to Miriam is that there is no more gossiping in here.
>> Which brings me to gossiping Jessica. I just want to officially apologize for not addressing the letter situation with you and you only and professionally and I'm really really sorry that I told anyone else.
>> Thank you.
>> You know, Mimosa, I recommended to Miriam that you start doing color. Your client was great today and you need to start setting yourself prices to expand your business and to expand Miriam's.
>> Thank you.
>> Well done.
She's the star.
>> Proud of you.
>> I still need some practice. I still need some more education. But I did find my confidence. I am >> No. Oh, it's nice when we see something nice, isn't it? Oh, that's nice.
>> How do you think you did today?
>> I tried really hard today and I tried to do my best to stay on schedule. I did not 100%. It affects everyone in the salon when you have poor time management.
I've decided that we're going to put you on probation for one week.
>> At the end of that week, if there's no change, it leaves me no choice but to replace you with a stylist that will generate income into the salon. I think it's fracking ridiculous that Miriam would put me on probation.
>> I mean, I'm not a perfect stylist.
>> You should go on, >> but I work really hard to take this as a positive thing. I don't want you to leave. I want you to be the person that I know you can be.
>> I'm really impressed with the way Miriam stepped up today. She's actually taking responsibility for being an owner.
>> Yeah, this is all very fast turnar around. Don't forget like one week.
>> Give your key back.
>> Oh, your key.
>> Good luck.
>> Kilo of Coke.
>> You guys better step up because you never know when I might be back. Good luck.
>> Thank you.
>> She's a bad sense.
>> I understand very very well now.
>> Okay. Right. What do we think? What do we think? I think she's gonna come back and be like, "Yes, it's all changed around. Everyone's great. Michelle's gone."
>> Work ahead of me. Let's see.
>> Six weeks later.
>> Bearing in mind, she said she was going to week since I left Refuge Salon. And I hope today I find Miriam not gossiping about her staff. I hope she's paying her bills on time. And I hope she's managing her business.
>> Well, hi.
>> Dear.
>> Well, we've made lots of changes since you've been through. Like a whirlwind.
>> What kind of changes? Everything's being managed. I'm here more often.
>> So, tell me about the salon overall. Is it busier in here?
>> It's been progressively getting busier.
It's great.
>> That's really good.
>> Really great.
>> When I first met you, your financial situation was pretty dire. Are you able to pay your bills on time now, Miam?
>> I still have catching up to do, but I am meeting my commitments.
>> Um, how is Michelle?
>> She's worked very hard and made definite changes, so I see that she's making progress.
>> Are you still on probation?
>> Uh, not that I know of.
>> Okay. How will time management skills?
>> We've actually started getting printed schedules, which has been just so incredibly helpful.
>> Since Tabitha's been here, everybody's just been trying to pull it together a little bit more. You wanted education.
>> I didn't know about that. There >> wasn't anything provided. Has that >> So, all she needed was a print out to tell her to keep the time. I don't That feels a little bit production being like, oh, it's a happily ever after for Michelle.
or >> Okay, let me shut up.
>> Anything provided? Has that changed?
>> Um, I actually have been looking for outside sources of education. I feel like the more people that train me and can teach me techniques, the better.
>> Good for you.
>> It's a huge difference doing color moneywise and it builds your confidence and, you know, when you become a little bit more successful, you just feel better.
>> I feel a thousand times more conf.
>> I love that color. That hair color is so so 2000s. Love it.
>> Miriam seems to really have a handle on her business and the staff are acting more professionally. If Miriam continues to manage her business and keep her staff on the client have a really successful salon.
>> Oh, bye.
>> On the next >> no Chicago mail, right, we're going to look up to see whether it's still there.
I don't have the highest hopes, I must say.
Uh, it's permanently closed. Yelpers report this location has closed. Do we not have any any other information on Instagram? It says permanently closed with a crying face. When? Mandatory shutdown. When was this? 2020. Oh, I actually can't find any more information about it. All I can find is that it is permanently closed. Well, my lovelies, I guess it just kind of goes to show that you can't be a nonchalant lady whilst trying to run a business. I will say I did I know that Michelle was I know I know that Michelle was was like not the best but my heart does kind of go out to that kind of a situation where you're like oh it's awful and she you know she can't time manage and it's just bit awful and it's like oh please something click maybe she's in the wrong industry.
do want to say though, there is something about Tabitha that she doesn't like any fluff at all. Any fluff in a service or any fluff with emotions or any fluff between people, which I just don't subscribe to. I don't mind a little bit of fluff. Like, people have to feel emotions. If you're going to get overwhelmed by something at work, you should be perfectly allowed to remove yourself from that situation, have your moment, and then return because trying to fight back tears, it's practically impossible. you just end up making like an absolute buffoon of yourself and it feels even worse. Especially then also being on camera. Can you imagine? Do want to say though, I loved loved the amount of 2000's fashion that we saw in this episode. I believe this is from 2009 and you can really see it. Oh my god, you can really see it. It's Lily Allen, Crystal Castles, cosmic print leggings, bumpets, and tunic dresses.
It's just like that is my era that I grew up in that I really recognize even if I did none of that whatsoever. Well, my lovelies, let me know what you think about what we've seen in today's episode of Tabitha Takes a Wig Off because it was dramatic, it was sad, it was a lot, it was also a little bit kind of like, oh, don't like that. But ultimately, I think she might might have had an effect on the way things run, although there is now permanently closed. As I say, let me know what you think in the comments box below.
