July could end as the wettest on record, with more rain heading our way

[00:00:03]We have uh photojournalist Courtney out and about this morning. [music] She's at the North Fork Trail in Eagle River just looking over those uh just cloudy and wet [music] conditions, Aaron.

[00:00:15]>> Danny, our rain continues across South Central. Yesterday was just very wet. We saw upwards of an inch of rain across Anchorage. Uh we've got flood watches and warnings in effect across South Central. We've got heat advisories as you head through the interior uh as well as the Arctic Plains and another wet week uh looking likely for Southern Alaska. Now, there is some good news as we head into the weekend, things do look uh to trend on the drier and sunnier side, but we've got to get through uh the next couple of days. And you can see across the state we've got those uh flood watches uh as you head across South Central. We've got our wind advisories as you head out towards uh Delta Junction and then from the Arctic Plains out towards Fort uh the Yukon Flats and eastern parts of the interior, uh there is a heat advisory. Uh now, when it comes to uh the flood watches and across uh South Central, you can see it encompasses a large portion of the Kenai. Uh here in Anchorage, we've got uh flood advisories as you head out towards our western parts of the Susitna Valley within uh those rivers. Uh and we're also seeing out towards Seward a flood warning. So, these rising waters due to the excessive rainfall uh could continue to lead to uh some potential minor flooding. We've also got that uh ponding on the roadways, which could prove uh difficult at times and lead to the potential uh that we could see some hydroplaning issues. Now, at the surface, we've got a ridge of high pressure just south of the Aleutians.

[00:01:30]We've got another one uh as you head south of uh of the uh Panhandle. And embedded within that flow is that southerly uh the southerly flow that's pulling in ample moisture. Now, as you look in the upper levels of the atmosphere, this is the trough that has been situated across the state for quite some time. And this continues to reinforce uh the wet weather conditions that we've been dealing with across the state. There is some good news. Notice here over the next couple of days, yes, this trough will stay with us. That will mean more rain as we head through the middle of the week. But notice as we head from Wednesday on through the close of the week. Looks like this trough is finally going to get picked up and swept off towards the east, which will actually lead to much nicer weather as we welcome in the weekend. But we've got to get through the next couple of days, which is still going to be exceptionally wet. So today, it's going to continue to favor wet conditions across the region.

[00:02:18]We're going to dry out from south to north into the evening hours. Already seen those dry conditions out towards Homer, Ketchikan Bay. So still holding on to some lingering showers overnight into your Tuesday. Tuesday for the most part will be dry until the evening hours when our next band of rain builds back in. And this is going to set the stage for a wet Tuesday evening on into Wednesday. Now, most of the rain as we welcome in Tuesday into Wednesday largely looks to fall south of Anchorage, but we're still going to see a decent shot of rain for the rest of the region. But still holding on to exceptionally wet weather through at least Thursday morning before we dry out. And we're still on track that western parts of Southcentral could easily pick up 1 to 2 inches of rainfall from today on through Thursday morning.

[00:03:01]Still watching coastal regions picking up anywhere from 2 to 4 plus inches. So still fairly wet weather, which is going to take hold across a good portion of the state. Rain does lighten up into the evening hours. So that is some good news. And again, Tuesday largely going to trend on the drier side. And then notice as we welcome in the weekend, there's that drier weather that's going to build back in across Southcentral. So we've got to get through the next couple of days. By Thursday, we'll just see that chance for some lingering showers.

[00:03:28]And then for Friday on into the weekend, that's where we'll see those temperatures warming into the mid to upper 60s. I'm going to go ahead and tell you right now, Kristen, it is an exceptionally wet July. Currently looking at I believe it's the second or third wettest stretch of weather we've seen since the start of July.
