Video editors should focus on building a clear, professional brand identity on platforms like LinkedIn, Instagram, and Twitter to attract clients, rather than maintaining multiple unrelated professional identities. Having a focused brand with clear messaging about your editing services makes you appear more authoritative and serious to potential clients, which is essential for client acquisition and building trust in the freelance editing industry.

Improving an editors brand with 13+ years experience
Added:Yeah. I mean, you mentioned you want to get to 4K a month. Like, if you were at let's even say like 5, 6, 7K a month >> Mhm.
>> and you made that through editing, would you feel as scared to stop actively pursuing the actor positions and things like that?
Like, if if you find one you genuinely enjoy, that's different. Like, you go for that. That's like a hobby type thing. That's fair enough.
>> Oh, it's not I'm sorry. It's not it's not a hobby.
Okay.
Um but no, I I I I would never stop.
>> So, can can you say that again?
>> I said I would never stop acting. Like, for for that's that's something I would never cut off.
So, but but I mean, I am in all humility, I am fast enough. Like, I I I like I was maintaining two full-time jobs and still doing what I was doing.
So, like two two two two two full-time editing jobs I was maintaining just a few years ago before getting laid off.
Um so, I'm proficient enough to do everything because I'm of the speed.
Fast enough. I have fast work flow.
>> not I'm not afraid of that, to be honest. Like, it's it's not really the time thing I'm concerned for you. I I agree you're super fast. It's more from a branding perspective and a client acquisition perspective, man.
>> One more time? The what? I didn't understand it.
>> It's more from a branding and like a client acquisition perspective.
>> Yeah.
>> I agree. Like, with the time, like I'm not too concerned with you doing these other things. That's why I said you should keep doing them, by the way, cuz it's bringing money in. I meant it more as Okay, you're trying to get clients.
Um you mentioned you don't want to like rip off like what you were doing before.
Like, you don't want to completely cut that off.
>> Right.
>> I'm saying you shouldn't. Now, let's say you get the clients and after a year you're like, I don't even want to be known as an editor. Truth is, you can just delete those posts, change your bio.
Cuz I'm not asking you to delete anything. I'm not even asking you to stop posting those things. I'm just saying that having a clear uh clearer messaging for what you do, I'm telling you you'll will better. Just from a client's perspective.
>> Right.
So like like LinkedIn is all is all video editor or VFX artist.
>> Yeah.
>> Um so like and then like that's that's 100% on there.
Cuz that's that's where you know like no one like no one's going to go there for for acting or or for films. I mean some people might go there for films, but like no one's going to go there for acting.
>> Mhm.
>> And then that's where I have like all it's all editing in it and then that that's actually almost 13 years. I need to update that, but yeah.
>> Yeah.
I mean really when when it comes to this like um all you want to do is ask yourself like if I was the type of like imagine you were the client. Like think of one client that you want to get. So let's say a YouTuber with 5 mil subs. Let's just say that.
>> Mhm.
>> If they went on your page like will they genuinely see you as an authority?
If I saw your LinkedIn, I would actually say yeah. Like if I was looking for a VFX artist, I'm even saying for um like even like let's say we were hiring for the side main channel. Like I would look at his page and be like yeah, we're going to look into him.
>> Mhm.
>> You know what I mean?
But when someone has like either nothing or like 10 different things, we we won't even look at it cuz it doesn't it doesn't even look like he's trying to take it seriously, which I know isn't your case. Do you know what I mean?
>> Mhm.
>> Um Yeah.
Like I think your LinkedIn's good. Like you mentioned with your LinkedIn you're doing it. I agree.
Your LinkedIn's solid.
Pretty much you don't have to change everything. Like I know you have some other pages in other places.
Whichever just think about it just whichever platform you're going to be reaching out to people on.
In your case I'd recommend Instagram and Twitter.
At least those have more targeted towards editing.
>> Yeah, like Uh Alex literally I I I actually never had a Twitter before joining this. So I I just made one.
That last one I probably wouldn't mind just making editing but that's why I was also asking if I should make an alias to just have for editing only like Uh like you said in one of your videos like you don't need your real name, you use an alias.
>> Yeah. And that's the one regret I have in my entire life. I wish I went from say from day one. So I would stay with Zach.
>> Oh, stick to your name instead of an alias.
>> It makes things so much easier, man. I'm telling you.
>> Got you.
>> Yeah. But exactly I wouldn't overcomplicate this, man. All I would do if I were you ch- um add editor to your bio, add some clients you work with.
Um I If it feels like a big change, like if you hate the change, you change it back.
Just change Just change the bio back if you hate me. But I'm telling you like from everything that I've seen in this in this space and from all the editors I've helped, it's never serving an editor to have multiple things like that.
Carter had it as well. The guy we just got to 10k a month, he asked, "Can I put YouTuber and also like editor on there?"
I just said, "You can pick one. You You can make a ton of money in both.
You're not in both. You're not going to do it if you pick both."
Both make money.
>> Yeah.
Yeah, like I'm like like for my Twitter like I'm I'm I'm I'm more open to do it on there cuz like I said I never had a Twitter but that's why I was also asking if I should make an alias instead and then keep what I have here and then but but I but but like I know you said you you you'd rather use your real name, of course.
But I think the other option I could do if I don't want to you know if I do want one that is dedicated to editing only or I want people to look at that shows that shows like specifically YouTube editing.
Cuz all the stuff on here I've done some YouTube editing but like nothing like Fortnite videos, nothing like giving people money and stuff.
Uh I I've done like socials for like for example for like a a show and for a church.
Uh like a kids TV show. I've done YouTube shorts for them, YouTube shorts for for like how to how to use the specific walkie-talkie stuff. Like I've I've I've done and then just shorts like that, you know. But nothing regarding like specifically for like YouTubers, like the ones that >> Yeah. I mean that's still fine. It's still like social type of content.
That's fine. Um Just to bring about to the main question, Michael, I do want to go into that.
It's literally just make sure um Yeah. Just I mean I mean it is a thing where if you brand on there, you will get more clients.
If if you are against it, I mean I can't force you to do it obviously, but >> Mhm.
>> I can I can only say what the best practices are, man, from what I've seen.
>> Got you.
Okay.
>> Cool.
>> Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Thank you for answering.
>> No, you're good, man.
Right. And that's everything. I've actually got a call to jump to. How was that, boys? How did you get everything answered?
>> Yeah. Yeah, man. Thank you, man. Thank Thank you, Saqib.
>> No worries, man.
>> Thanks for attending, Zach.
>> Thank you. Oh, yeah.
>> Nice to meet you, man.
>> Yeah, nice to meet you.
I know what Hakgo said. That's That's also what I was suggesting. Like I said, I never had an X before. So what So like what do you think of just using X for for like YouTube adding only?
>> Yeah, you can use you can use just X. I agree basically just on X.
>> I just have X and uh everything goes fine.
>> Yeah.
>> Like Instagram or something.
>> Cuz I didn't even hear you mention the other platforms on on the on the videos on the training on the the training on >> Just because we we recommend starting with X. Once you really get used to that platform, then it makes sense to jump on others. You can totally use just Instagram or just another platform. Um but just using one platform works.
>> Okay.
Cool. Yeah, then I'll I'll make my X for YouTube.
>> Right. Going to head off now. I've got another and record a jump too.
Appreciate it, boys.
>> All right, guys. Thank you.
