Warm-Up, Cascade Thunderstorms, Then Cool-down

[00:00:02]>> Welcome back after a mild and pleasant weekend. The heat is coming back. 92° in Eugene right now, which means our 90° day tracker is up to nine. But it's not just the heat, it's also the humidity out there. Feels a little bit muggy this morning and that has been the case for most of the afternoon. Dew points right now at about 60° and that's all coming in from tropical moisture set to bring mountain thunderstorms heading into Wednesday. We'll get those details coming up a little bit later in the newscast, but marine layer coming back toward the Oregon coast right now.

[00:00:34]Florence right now 65° and that is going to be the case for most of the day tomorrow. A very cloudy day for the Oregon coast heading into your Tuesday. All right, we have multiple wildfires across central and eastern Oregon still burning at the hour including two that are 120,000 acres plus out towards Jefferson and portions of Umatilla and that is going to continue burning until we get some decent rainfall. We did have some very beneficial showers earlier today for Oakridge, River and out toward central Oregon and still seeing a little bit of that right now. But the thing is we have a lot more moisture to come.

[00:01:08]Unfortunately though it's not a constant plume of steady rain. It's going to come with lightning as well. So we have the remnants of a tropical storm down off the coast of Southern California right now and all of that moisture is kind of getting conveyor belt pulled all the way up into the Pacific Northwest through Wednesday. Once it reaches us, that moisture lifts, produces those thunderstorms and that is going to be a concern heading into Wednesday. But until we get there, still going to be very muggy out there with temperatures likely in the mid 90s. So tomorrow and Wednesday are going to be the hottest days of the week. And eventually we do get that cool down, but as I mentioned, that cool down does come with the lightning potential heading into Wednesday. So it's kind of a catch-22.

[00:01:46]But nine days, like I said, so far this year, which is still under what we've seen in the past couple of years. We'll likely get number 10 and 11 by the end of the week and then a significant cool down heading into this weekend possibly with temperatures maybe in the even 70s heading into Saturday and Sunday. But through 7:00 tonight still very warm out there 89° in Eugene watches cloud cover remains and that is going to keep the temperature up. So a lot of that moisture coming up from California.

[00:02:13]That's going to give the muggy feel to the air again tomorrow. So out the door 63° so a little bit humid and that is going to be the case for tomorrow evening as well. Notice temperatures get up to about 96° no major moisture tomorrow maybe a stray thunderstorm out towards Deschutes County but it's mainly going to be into that Wednesday time frame. So above average temperatures both tomorrow and Wednesday near average on Thursday and Friday and notice we actually are going to be struggling to get out of the 70s heading into Sunday afternoon due to a lot of this moisture moving in. So again, we do expect the cool down but with that is going to be thunderstorm chances building into the Cascades and Central Oregon on Wednesday. All right, here's the Central Coast forecast 68 Tuesday and Wednesday a little bit cooler heading into this weekend mostly sunny skies by Friday and Saturday.

[00:03:00]Across the Cascades thunderstorm likelihood heading into Wednesday 84° sunshine and temperatures do cool back down into the 70s heading into the weekend. Roseburg area at 98° tomorrow thunderstorms mainly across areas east of Douglas County but for the Willamette Valley you can see a hot next couple of days followed by a cool down temperatures this weekend struggling to get out of the 70s after getting near 100 for tomorrow.
