She Was Losing Her Hairline From Braids… Here’s Her Natural Hair Transformation
Added:So, what are we doing today with your hair?
>> Honey, I have I haven't been natural.
Well, I put it this way.
I was natural for couple years, but I was wearing the crochet style, you know?
>> Yeah.
>> Braids and everything cuz I'm too lazy to my own hair.
>> So, it would start breaking out my edges, but my hair is actually soft.
>> Okay.
>> Too much tension.
>> Yeah. And then I went away to Grenada and I came back and I just took away Grenada.
>> Where's that?
>> The Caribbean.
>> I've not heard of that. Where is like where >> Gren? It's next to um Jamaica.
>> Oh wow.
>> Oh, it's nice and quiet.
>> Really?
>> But I'm like my son was like if you don't stop putting them protective styles them braids or whatever you got in your head because all your hedges is coming out and your head go back and start back here. Oh, your son the best.
Stop putting stuff in your hair that don't belong in your hair and they stand it. So anyway, long story short, I just took them out and cut my hair.
>> And then I started going to the dermatologist because I realized it really was great. It was worse than this girl.
>> So anyway, I started going to the dermatologist and she gave me drops and, you know, started giving me shots in my my hair and my scalp and it started growing back. So it's like like right up here it's still catching and right here to the side.
>> So how long has this been this way?
>> Um probably several months now.
>> Oh, so it's only it's only so your treatment's only going on for months.
Okay.
>> It hasn't like years or anything.
>> Okay. Good.
>> So and you've seen a change in the in the Okay, good.
>> I can show you pictures of what it was before.
>> Oh, really?
>> Oh my god. So, it's growing back. So, then I was like, "Okay, now that I cut my hair, what am I going to do with my hair?"
>> So, of course, you know, I started doing the curl, the wash and go, and all that stuff.
>> But I work at Delta part time, and I should have brought the the hat upstairs. And we have to wear like a baseball cap, which is has a hard shell underneath.
>> Got a ramp.
>> Mhm.
>> Oh, >> a protective style. So, I'm like, "Oh my god." got to get my hair done, then I got to go to work, then I had to put the hat on and it flattens it and then my hair get the sweating.
>> Yeah.
>> So, I don't know. But I've been going to this other salon that she kind of call herself cutting it so it could be somewhat in the style because it was a little bit longer than that.
>> So, I don't know, girl. I don't know.
Working it up.
>> So, so what how how are you wanting to be Do you know how you want it to be styled?
Um, I didn't want it too too tight because it's already short, >> but it's actually not short. It's just when you curl it up.
>> So, she was doing the wash and go where I guess doing the finger curl with the twist or whatever. So, I don't know what you suggest.
>> So, Oh, you know what? Since >> you're worried about it going flat because you have to wear your hat. Do you What do you think about like the comb twists, the comb coils?
>> Did you Okay, let me show you a video me doing those. So, I feel like that would be good since you have to wear hat so you don't have to wear cuz this like a wash and go you have to worry about it going flat.
>> Yeah.
>> And then you can just kind of just take your hat off and then after wearing the twist for a week or two, you can unravel them and then you'll have another look.
>> Another Oh, okay.
>> Okay. Let's see this.
>> Because this part right up in here, it just gets so like puffy.
>> Where are you?
>> Okay.
>> Oh, yeah. I saw that on your >> So, you want to do something like that?
>> I think it'll be cute.
>> Want to try that? I think I mean since you're worried about having since you have to wear a hat and you're worried about it going flat that I mean to me that will >> that would be easier.
>> You want to try? Are you sure you want to try that?
>> I mean we can try.
>> Yeah. Like we can try different like you know over time we can try different styles to see what works best for you.
>> Right.
>> But from what you're saying today I think that would be good.
>> Yeah.
>> Okay.
>> All righty. Let's go back to Michelle here.
Hello everyone and welcome back to my channel. If you are new here, my name is Mahogany James and my salon is located in Atlanta, Georgia. My client came in for full service. She's natural and will be getting comb twist, also known as comb coils, along with a hydration treatment and a haircut. And during our consultation, one of the concerns she shared with me was her hair loss around her frontal hairline. She explained that um years of tension from braids and other styles has caused thinning in that area. Um the good news is that she is currently under the care of a dermatologist and receiving treatment.
And she told me that she has already started seeing improvement which is always encouraging to hear. And I just want to remind you guys that if you're experiencing hair loss, don't ignore it.
Early intervention matters and working with a dermatologist and identifying the root cause can make a huge difference in preserving and restoring your hair. Now, let's get started with her healthy hair service. First, I'm going in with the deep cleansing shampoo. And this shampoo is designed to remove buildup from oils, butters, styling products, environmental pollutants, and even minerals that can accumulate on the hair over time. And a lot of people continue adding products to dirty hair without properly cleansing it first. And that's like trying to moisturize your skin without um washing your face. So eventually all of that buildup creates a barrier that prevents moisture from properly entering the hair. And while cleansing her hair, I'm also using my small heatresistant detangling paddle brush to gently remove shed hair and tangles. Detangling the hair um while the hair is saturated with shampoo helps provide slip and allows me to work through the hair with minimal tension and breakage.
Now I'm going in with the rosemary carbon shampoo. And this is one of my favorite shampoos for clients who are focusing on scalp health because healthy hair always starts with a healthy scalp.
The rosemary carbon shampoo is infused with sea moss, honey, and avocado oil to help nourish and hydrate the hair while cleansing. And it also contains activated charcoal um which helps lift away impurities and excess buildup from the scalp. And it has lemongrass which helps maintain a healthy scalp environment. And one thing I always tell my clients is that a clean scalp doesn't automatically mean a dry scalp. A lot of people are afraid to shampoo because they think shampooing strips the hair, but the right shampoo should cleanse while still supporting moisture. And that's exactly why I love this one. It gives the scalp that fresh, clean feeling without leaving the hair feeling harsh or stripped. And because my client has been dealing with hair loss around her hairline and is currently receiving treatment from a dermatologist, maintaining a healthy scalp at home is extremely important and professional treatments are important, but your home care routine matters, too. Now, the last shampoo that I will be using is the Camos Fusion Shampoo. After thoroughly cleansing the scalp, I always like to come back in with moisture, and this shampoo does exactly that. The Seamos Fusion Shampoo is infused with seaoss, honey, and avocado oil to help nourish and hydrate the hair while improving manageability. It also contains DHT blockers, which are ingredients commonly used to help support healthier, fuller looking hair and promote a healthier scalp environment. And camos is packed with vitamins and minerals that help strengthen the hair and improve moisture retention. And honey is a natural hctant, which means it helps attract and retain moisture in the hair, while avocado oil helps soften, nourish, and add shine without weighing the hair down. And one thing I always tell my clients is that moisture and hydration are not the same thing. Hydration refers to water, while moisture helps seal in the hydration and um keeps the hair from becoming dry. And when the hair lacks moisture, it becomes harder to manage, more prone to tangles, and more um susceptible to breakage. And that's why I love incorporating this shampoo into my client's routine. Um not only does it leave the hair feeling soft and hydrated, but it also helps improve elasticity, it reduces frizz, and makes the hair much easier to detangle and style. And because my client's goal is healthy hair, every product that I'm using today has a purpose. I'm not just shampooing the hair. I'm building a foundation for healthier hair from the scalp all the way to the end. So, now it's time for her hydration treatment.
And this is honestly one of my favorite parts of the service because healthy hair needs to be more than just clean hair. It also needs moisture and hydration. So, first I'm applying the rosemary stimulating spray directly to her scalp. And this spray helps balance the scalp, improve circulation, and create a healthier environment for hair growth. And since my client is already addressing her hair loss with a dermatologist, um supporting scalp health at home and during her salon visits is extremely important. And then next, I will be layering the rosemary carbon conditioner with the camos fusion conditioner. I love combining these two conditioners because they allow me to customize the treatment to give the hair both strength and moisture. The rosemary carbon conditioner helps support scalp health, while the camos fusion conditioner helps replenish moisture and improve manageability. And once the treatment is applied, she'll sit under the hydration machine for about 20 minutes with red light therapy. The gentle heat um from the hydration machine helps open the cuticle and allows the conditioners to penetrate deeper into the hair shaft instead of just sitting on the surface. And the red light therapy helps support circulation and promotes a healthier scalp environment. And I always tell my clients that dry hair and hydrated hair are not the same. Hydrated hair is softer, more manageable, less prone to breakage, and much easier to retain length, and um consistent hydration treatments can make a huge difference in the overall health of your hair. Now, it is time to blow dry her hair. And before putting any heat on her hair, I'm applying the coconut milk leave-in conditioner, the seamos blowd dry spray, and the silk recharge spray serum. I always tell my clients that heat itself isn't necessarily the enemy. Unprotected heat is. And that's why I believe preparation is everything. Um, the coconut milk leave-in conditioner helps provide moisture, improves manageability, and gives the hair additional slip, which helps minimize tangles and breakage during the blow-dry process. And then the CMOS blow dry. Um, this spray helps smooth and soften the hair while also helping to reduce blow dry time up to 50%. Which means less heat exposure and a more efficient styling process. And then of course, the Silk Recharge Spray Serum for heat protection and added shine. This serum provides heat protection up to 450° while helping the hair maintain softness and luster throughout the styling process. And once all of my products are applied, I'm blow drying her hair using my small heatresistant detangling paddle brush. And I love this brush because it helps me gently stretch and detangle the hair while blow drying without creating unnecessary tension. Um, the flexible bristles glide through the hair easily, making the blow dry process more comfortable for clients while helping to minimize breakage. And healthy hair isn't just about the products you use.
It's also about using the right tools and techniques to protect the hair every step of the way.
Huh?
>> It just don't seem like it's a a style to it. So, you want do Okay.
>> It does seem like it's >> I don't know. She did. She cut it.
>> Yeah, cuz Okay. So, let me show you what's going on. So, like if you did want to wear it straight, you can't >> because it's it's not cut, >> right, >> to wear for anything.
>> Yeah. It's is only cut for your for you to wear natural, >> right?
>> So, um >> yeah, I wouldn't worry about wearing it straight.
>> Okay.
>> So, when you say you want more like what do you want >> more of a definition? So, when it's curl, you could see it's you can see it's curl. I guess more defined look. I don't know. I don't know what I'm talking about.
>> So, do you want do you like the length of your size or do you want your sides shorter?
Now remember, don't look at them now.
Look remember how they are when they're when you're in this. Yeah, >> exactly. It's going to be real.
>> So, do you like that length?
>> Sure.
>> Yeah.
>> Okay. So, >> we're just going to be adding more shape to the top then. So like that means well a lot of this needs to go anyway >> but um adding more shape to the top.
>> Okay. But I know there's not much in the front but anything to >> bring it to the keep. Yeah. We'll still keep trying to keep as much lift up here as possible.
>> Now it's time for her haircut. And after examining her hair, I noticed that her previous haircut was not blended properly. Because of that, she really didn't have the versatility to wear her hair in different ways. And one thing I always tell my clients is that a good haircut should work with your hair, not against it. Whether you decide you want to wear your hair in its natural state um in comb coils in a wash and go or even straighten, your haircut should have the shape and flow no matter how you choose to style it. And unfortunately, because her haircut wasn't blended, I do have to remove a little more length than originally planned in order to create balance and shape throughout the hair. And I know losing length can be difficult, but healthy hair isn't just about keeping every inch. It's about making sure the hair grows out beautifully. Um, now because she is experiencing hair loss around her hairline, our goal today is to preserve as much hair in the front as possible while still removing the damaged ends that need to go. Haircuts should always be customized to the client's needs and in her case, maintaining fullness around the front is very important. So, I'm carefully reshaping and blending her hair her haircut to create a style that will grow out properly over time. Um, the great thing about this is that as her treatment continues and her hair begins to fill back in, she'll already have the foundation for the shape she wants and eventually she'll have the bangs and the fullness she's hoping for. But this time, everything will grow in evenly and with intention. And I truly believe that haircuts are not setbacks. They um they are investments in the future of your hair. Sometimes you have to remove what's no longer serving your hair so you can make room for healthier hair to thrive.
All right. So, now >> it's blended.
>> So, even if you did decide on the random day that you want to wear your hair, you can't.
>> And who going who going to fix that? Who going to style that? Me.
>> But yeah.
>> Yeah. Cut should always be blended.
Yeah, that's what I thought was like something just not just not sitting not hitting me.
>> Yeah.
>> You know, like something missing.
>> Don't get me wrong, she's doing a good job with it.
>> Now that her haircut is complete, I took her back to the shampoo bowl to rerut her hair and prepare for um prepare for styling. And since we're creating comb twists, also known as comb coils, I want to make sure the hair is properly hydrated because these styles always perform best on moisturized hair. And to create her coils, I'm first applying the camos curl pudding. And I love using this product because it helps provide moisture and definition while keeping the hair soft and manageable. And one thing I don't like is a style that looks good on day one but leaves the hair feeling dry a few days later. So, healthy styles should not only look beautiful, but they should also help maintain the health of the hair. Next, I layered the honey almond styling foam.
And this lightweight foam helps define the the coils while providing hold and keeping the style soft and touchable.
And I love using these two products together because they complement each other perfectly. Um, the curl pudding, the seamos curl pudding helps provide moisture and nourishment, while the honey almond styling foam helps set the style and reduce um, frizz without leaving the hair hard or flaky. And as I work throughout her entire head, I'm creating comb twist, also known as the comb coils. Um, despite the different names, we're talking about the same style. And I love recommending coils because they're versatile, lowmaintenance, and they encourage clients to wear and embrace their natural texture. And one thing I always remind my clients is that styling products should do more than just hold the hair in place. They should also help maintain moisture. Dry hair breaks, but moisturized hair is much easier to manage. and making moisture one of the keys to retaining length and maintaining healthy hair over time.
down.
Now that I'm finished setting her hair, I'm going to lightly mist her coils with the S3 spray. And I love using this spray because it helps add moisture and shine while also helping to keep the hair soft and reduce frizz. And once that's done, she'll sit under the dryer for about 20 minutes. And one of the things I love about this combination of products is that they dry relatively quickly. So she doesn't have to spend hours sitting under the dryer. Even though the drying time is shorter, it's still important to make sure the hair is completely dry before um taking the coils down or manipulating the style.
And allowing the style to dry properly helps um maintain definition, reduce frizz, and improve the longevity of the style. Now that her hair is completely dry, I'm going back in with the S3 spray to add a little extra moisture and shine before separating her coils. I always like to make sure the hair stays hydrated throughout the entire styling process because hydrated hair is much easier to manipulate and less prone to frizz. And next, I'm applying a small amount of the S3 serum to my hands before gently separating her coils. Um, the serum helps lock in moisture and shine and create slip, which allows me to separate the hair without causing unnecessary frizz or disrupting the definition of the style. And today I'm only you doing a light um separation because I want her coils to maintain their definition while giving her a little more fullness. And one thing I always tell my clients is that coil sets get better with time. So as the days go on, the style will naturally expand and become fuller and giving her more um volume while still maintaining the beautiful def definition we created today. And sometimes less is more. You don't have to separate every coil on day one. Allowing the style to gradually evolve over the next several days is part of what makes comb coils such a beautiful and versatile style. And I love her results. I absolutely love how everything came together. Her hair looks healthy. Her coils are beautifully defined. And most importantly, we were able to create a style that complements her current hair goals um while preserving as much hair as possible around her hairline. And I know hair loss can be emotional and frustrating.
But one thing I want you to remember is that healthy hair journeys take time.
Um, consistency, patience, and the right routine can make a huge difference. And I'm so happy that she's already seeing progress with her dermatologist treatment. And I'm excited that um I'm excited to see how her hair continues to improve over time. And remember, healthy hair isn't just about the style you leave the salon with. It's about what you do in between appointments.
Consistent cleansing, hydration, and regular trims, and using the right products at home all play a major role in maintaining healthy hair. And of course, your hair should never limit your confidence. Whether you're dealing with hair loss, a breakage, or simply trying to learn your natural hair, give yourself grace and trust the process.
