Is FSD 14.3.2 Finally Better? First Drive Reality Check

[00:00:00]Ladies and gentlemen, welcome back to another Tesla full self-driving video.

[00:00:03]We're running version 14.3.2, software version 2026.2.9.

[00:00:10]I'm going to go ahead and start self-driving. This is going to be my very first drive with 14.3.2.

[00:00:16]I received it last night, which is April 27th. I'm recording this on the morning of the 28th, but I installed it on the 27th around 10 p.m. Eastern time. I did see a decent wave of people receive uh 14.3.2.

[00:00:31]This is the update that just released the uh disengagement UI, but adding the navigation option in addition to the previous one. So, about an update or two ago, they've already added the disengagement window, which you and I are going to kind of test. I'll walk you through what that looks like. Basically, it's a menu of options that come up now every time you disengage. my opinion on that. Fantastic. In addition to that, the fact that they've added a navigation selection um tile for when you disengage, that is beautiful. I think that is going to keep a lot of people at ease. It's going to give a lot of great feedback to the Tesla team. It's going to feel customers are basically going to feel like they have uh their voice heard. For the longest time as a Tesla FSD content creator here on YouTube with a very small community, um I know for a fact a lot of you guys have been complaining about navigation for the longest time. This makes it feel like we're now being finally heard by the Tesla team. In addition to that, of course, it's really good data. So, I hope I hope I hope I hope that this is actually going to implement change. Uh so overall thoughts on 14.3.2 from others from the early access group and from other content creators videos on X videos online seems solid. I try not to carry any biases into first drives. Uh but I'm just kind of you know um thinking about what I saw before driving this build for the first time. What I'm noticing is it defaulted me to sloth. I don't remember that happening in previous builds. Not exactly sure uh what that is about, but I'm going to go ahead and change this to hurry mode. Uh maybe I'll switch this over to MadMax a little bit later. You saw there was a a trash can in the road there. It created a little bit of distance. You can see it's a little bit of an overcast day in addition to that. Good old spring. Uh end of April, beginning of May, this is typical weather here in the Midwest. So that's also going to play into today's drive. Um good or bad or indifferent, it's just typical weather conditions at this time of the year. Um, if you've received 14.3.2, I'd like for you to drop a comment down below. Let me know if you've received it at the time that I post this video. I'm going to try and upload this the same day. Um, and I just I'm curious how many of y'all have received it or how many of you are waiting. I've always been on the last end of the deployment pipeline. For me, I genuinely believe that the Tesla team, I don't know, this is just my opinion. Maybe this is validated or maybe this is complete um just bogus information that I'm kind of coming up with out of my head. I think that they target people that drive the most. I don't commute every single day throughout the week. Uh and so therefore I don't have as many miles as somebody that commutes every day or likes to drive every day or Ubers every day. Um you know drives ride share or or you know um drives for Uber. So I don't drive that much. I think they target people that drive the most, which to be honest with you is logical. Those people should get the update first because they're going to be update. They're going to be driving first. If there are any issues, logically speaking, they're going to identify those before somebody like me who drives 20 30% less than some of those other people. Just my opinion.

[00:03:54]So therefore, I think I'm sort of on the tail end of the deployment pipeline. I was kind of surprised that I got it last night when I did. Uh but to me that usually means that it's going pretty wide because I'm toward again I'm kind of towards the tail end there. Uh little little bit wide of a turn there, but then it corrected itself at that intersection. I also saw a video this morning from uh Dirty Tesla. I think he posted this last night. One of the biggest pet peeves I had with full self-driving actually had nothing to do with the driving. If you recall previous to this build, allegedly, we're going to test this. You and I are going to test this once we get closer to our destination, which by the way, we're going to downtown Columbus. Um, you can now unbuckle the seat belt as the car is slowly approaching your destination. So, naturally, most humans, including myself, we kind of unbuckle as we get closer. We don't wait for it to park.

[00:04:53]Maybe sometimes I do, but typically when I'm kind of rolling into a spot at one or two miles per hour, I know I'm I'm getting ready to get out. So, I'm just going to unbuckle as I'm continuing to park and finishing the drive at like that slow speed. I think from what I saw on Dirty Tesla's video that he posted, it seems like you can now unbuckle as you get closer to to your destination.

[00:05:16]Um, and also, yes, curbside. So, we're going to we're going to leave curbside.

[00:05:19]This is our usual destination. We're going to avoid highways in today's drive as well because again, I think when you're testing a new build, highway driving has been so great that you really want to take this into low speed conditions. I had to change my mind. I kind of my perspective rather not slowing down for that at all. Previous builds would slow down for that train track. I don't know if you saw that, but we just went right through it. Um to play devil's advocate about that train track, it's very slim. I don't see other people slowing down, but just an observation there. So, we'll see. We'll see um about the seat belt thing. We'll see about the drive. We're going to avoid highways. And like I said, I had to sort of change my perspective on how I look at um testing FSD. Back in the day when I first started, I'm like, "All right, I'm going to take this straight on the highway because that's the most complex thing." Not really. The most complex things are low-speed uh parking lots, neighborhoods, when you're kind of like having to do a lot of edge case scenarios, maybe negotiation with other drivers. Sure, all of that happens on the highway, but highway speeds are relatively um linear. You're just kind of going in one lane. You're going to change lanes sometimes. FSD is going to change depending on the traffic, depending on what speed profile you're in, but you're not having to kind of negotiate with other drivers like you do in parking lots, like you do in uh neighborhood back roads. Back roads are a fun one for me. Um, so the windshield is a little bit watery from the rain, but the wipers of course are not turning on. I don't want to press anything, but I would really prefer for the wipers to come on, especially for you guys. So, I'm going to just going to go ahead and click the windshield wiper once. No, that's not a disengagement.

[00:07:14]That's just me being nitpicky, especially because I'm recording for you guys and I just want the windshield to be clear. So, um other than that, I think it's it's been the the market is responding fairly well to this build.

[00:07:28]Uh, I don't see any major complaints at this point. I think when 14.3 first was deployed to the early access group.

[00:07:36]There were a couple of bugs that were identified. I think a little bit of um break taps were reintroduced. Not as bad as 14.1 or 14.2. So, they kind of worked through that. Um, not sure what other major bugs they found in the first deployment for 14.3, but obviously now we're on 14.3.2.

[00:07:56]Typical behavior with Tesla, they'll release uh the first branch to the early group, let that bake for a little while, continuously, you know, widen that out to other customers. So, um I just got back from a trip where I rented an electric car is the Kia Nero, at least I think that's how you pronounce it. NRO Nairo Nero. Um it's a Kia based electric car for full fully electric. And let me tell you, it was cool to experience it.

[00:08:21]I had the option to choose different uh classes of car from the budget company, from the budget rental company. I decided to opt in for the electric class. Um I did ask them if I can rent a Tesla. Uh but because we were flying in and out of different airports, they didn't allow for that. They apparently want to keep the Teslas for themselves because it's high demand. So they want those cars to come back to the same airport you picked them up from. Because I wasn't flying out of that same airport, they basically denied it. They had Teslas available, but because of that, I couldn't rent it. So, uh, the overall experience with Kia, it was all right. It was okay. Good drive quality, quiet, smooth, comfortable, comfortable cabin. Um, decent size, but I don't know, man. It's just it's hard to go back, you know, when when you have a Tesla and you're so used to I'm a creature of habit, so that doesn't help either. Um, but it was okay. The battery seemed to be way less optimal. I I found myself charging way more often uh than I did with my standard range Tesla Model 3. For anybody new here, this is a hardware for Tesla Model 3. Um this is the Highland Edition. It's the rearwheel drive um 2024. I think I mentioned that already. So, you know, I I love this car. I absolutely love this car. It's a lease. I'm going to go ahead and upgrade this to a Model Y most likely once my lease is up in the next I think I have another year. Uh, but for now, this thing is great. So, again, I'm gonna clear the might just actually put this on one. So, instead of auto, I'm just going to go ahead and put the wipers on one just because I want the most optimal viewing experience for you guys.

[00:10:01]Uh, so far doesn't feel um much different. Um, I've seen a lot of comments online saying that Hurry and MadMax, let's switch over to MadMax for a second. And I want to see how uh it takes off from the line here. I've heard a lot of comments and feedback that MadMax takes off from the line a lot faster than some of the previous builds.

[00:10:25]Okay. Yeah. I mean, yeah, I could see that. I could that that felt a little bit more zippy. So, I could tell I can kind of feel what people are saying. We'll keep it on MadMax for now so we can kind of test out get uh you know the speed from from the line again over the next couple of minutes.

[00:10:49]I did do a full detail of the interior of my car. So the inside of the car is nice and clean just like I had it on day one. Now I have to finish that up with an out an exterior cleaning. I usually go through the brushless car wash just because it's a lot easier for me.

[00:11:13]Um, one of the things I'm keeping an eye on right now is the uh tailgating, how far we're keeping distance away from the car in front of us. I personally never had any issues with that. One of the biggest things that I got feedback on from you guys in some of the previous videos is uh I asked you all what do you want to see improved with Tesla FSD 14.3 and a lot of you guys said navigation but then following that was tailgating.

[00:11:39]I want to see tailgating improved and I thought okay well I don't see that in my area. That doesn't happen in my uh space here. But again I I always preach this uh depends on the area that you're in.

[00:11:51]The environment that you're in. You could be in the same exact car and the environment you're in is completely different uh reaction or experience than me. Totally different. So, it depends.

[00:12:02]It really depends on the environment, depends on the uh weather, depends on the traffic, infrastructure, streets, how it's mapped, so many variables that relate to your end experience. So, uh I'll keep an eye on it for what it's worth. I I do want to be mindful of that just because I know how important it is for a lot of you in your areas. [00:12:45]I'm uh very curious to see where you guys are tuning in from. Um, got a hardware 4 Model Y behind us. So, I have not seen any robo taxis or cyber cabs rather in my area. Not surprised, but I'm keeping a very close eye on. I don't know. It seems very kind of randomized with where we're seeing the cyber cabs pop up. Obviously, we've had a lot in Florida. We've had some in Chicago. We I believe we saw some in Denver, Colorado.

[00:13:19]Um so it's kind of randomized in terms of where they're popping up. At least I think maybe there is rhyme or reason. I not sure. Maybe Chicago is on uh the pro in the process of uh getting robo taxi deployed. I I don't recall Chicago being on the list, but uh let's ask Grock here. When uh where have the uh Tesla cyber cabs recently been spotted?

[00:13:47]Recently, Tesla Cyber Cabs have been spotted mostly around Austin, Texas, at Giga Texas and on streets like Riverside Drive and Manaka Road. Other sightings include Las Vegas, Fort Meyers, and Naples in Florida, Novi in Michigan, and testing in places like Witchah, Kansas.

[00:14:07]>> Yeah. So, Witchah, uh, Michigan. So, some of those more random, you know, Midwest spots that uh don't really line up with any of their road maps as far as I understand, but they're probably just testing in different conditions. They're not I I don't imagine they're using those geographical uh areas for anything but testing um weather conditions and new geographies, stress testing the built. I don't know what this car is doing here.

[00:14:37]I felt a little bit of a brake pumps there, but that is, I think, a normal reaction because that car was just kind of cruising down this center lane. I'm going to do the windshield wiper here.

[00:14:52]Might go back to Let's go back to one.

[00:14:55]This thing bothers the heck out of me, man. I just I want them to solve for this windshield wiper technology. Like, whatever they're doing is not working.

[00:15:05]Let's just use the traditional way of of ensuring that the windshield wipers turn on. We know the traditional way works.

[00:15:13]Okay, slowing down for this truck that just basically went a little too preemptively.

[00:15:22]So, so far feels about feels about the same. Uh, one thing I am noticing is the MadMax speed off the line is pretty pretty fast. Who's honking? And why are they honking? Um, so maybe change this back to auto.

[00:15:49]I'm going to defog the windshield a little bit too here.

[00:16:12]Just make sure that these are still recording, which they are. Cool.

[00:16:20]Change the defog a little bit here.

[00:16:44]What I would really love to see is some pothole avoidance. I believe once we get a little bit closer to uh downtown Columbus, we're going to see a little bit more potholes. There's one area I'm thinking of. I'm not sure the route that it's taking right now, but if it takes the route that I'm thinking, there is some there are major major potholes in that area, and I would love I would absolutely love to see this build avoid those. Obviously, they've incorporated better logic uh for pothole avoidance in the 14.3 branch, but specifically even 14.3.2, which is the one I'm running right now. I would love to see a little bit of avoidance there. Like right there, I would have Yes, it didn't it didn't avoid that. I'm pretty sure you saw or heard the tire go right over that very minor pothole, but still had more than enough clearance to move over to the left.

[00:17:45]So, keep your eye out on potholes as we get a little bit closer. We're we're entering the perimeter of the downtown area here, so we're going to see a lot more of those. I would love to see some good avoidance there. I'm not keeping my hopes up based on just that small little pothole. It was an easy avoidance, but it did not take it. So, um, another thing that I've been uh watching on X and on YouTube is that this build at least 14.3.1, I'm not sure about 14.3.2. Maybe they they've already solved for it. Not exactly sure. We'll we'll test of course over the next couple of days, but I I believe that handicap parking is a regression point. Previous builds 14.2.2.5, uh the the build that most hardware 4 cars, so if you're if you're watching this and you're on a hardware 4 car, you're probably going to jump from 14.2.2.5 straight to 14.3.2. Most likely. Most likely. Um, that previous build was really good in terms of avoiding handicap parking spots. They've it's it almost seemed like it was finally solved. It was just to the point where I never had to worry about it. Now I'm hearing some reports and I'm I'm seeing some clips that it's regressed. In other words, it's parking in handicap again.

[00:19:09]Let me put this back to Oh, it is on auto. Okay. So, now it's working, but a little bit too much. So, guess you can't really win here. Me turn the AC off.

[00:19:21]Um, so we'll keep an eye out on handicap. That would be uh shameful, but I'm sure it's something that they can fix relatively easy. There's that pothole.

[00:19:31]Did not avoid that.

[00:19:34]I assume that um the lead car theory, if you've watched some of my previous videos, um I've I've coined it the lead car theory, which is where a car in front of you does something and FSD just kind of mirrors its behavior. I assume that's still present. So, if the car in front of me, See that? Okay. See, right on Q just as I said it ju I couldn't make this stuff up. I couldn't make this stuff up. that car in front of us sw kind of swer over to the left a little bit to avoid that pothole. And FSD did the exact same thing. At no point previous to that did it avoid any of the potholes, but it saw this car turn, angle itself a little bit over to the left, then get back into the center, and it did exactly that. So, that's kind of hilarious that you just saw a live demo of the lead car theory.

[00:20:23]So, there you go. Got the school bus parked on the side of the road.

[00:20:32]I'd love to see some of the reaction times as we get closer to downtown.

[00:20:38]We're going to obviously see a lot more cyclists, pedestrians. It's about 22 minutes past 9, so probably on the tail end of rush hour, but hopefully we we'll see a little bit of uh people commuting on foot or on bike to work. So, we'll see.

[00:20:56]windshield wipers slowed down a little bit. Sometimes I must wonder if it has anything to do with the thermal settings inside of the vehicle.

[00:21:05]When I had the defog on, it was working a lot faster. When I turned the defog off, now you can see water is accumulating at a greater rate on the windshield. So, I'm going to wipe myself here. Got the yellow light here. We'll be first in line. So, I'm going to once this light turns green here, I will be keeping an eye out on the takeoff speed.

[00:21:27]Uh, for you wondering, for anybody wondering, $4.29 is the current price of gas here in Columbus, Ohio. Um, the plus is $4.79.

[00:21:40]So, drive electric. I mean, that that that'll, you know, I'm personally very very happy that I'm in an electric vehicle right now. Gas prices are significantly higher. They've spiked.

[00:21:53]Let's see how this goes here. All right, that felt about the same. No difference there in terms of takeoff speed.

[00:22:02]All right, so it took that left and then it took the left lane, immediately turned right into the right lane.

[00:22:10]So, let's see if it could read the sign here. No turn on red. I'm pretty sure the camera I'm sure you can see that there. No turn on red. So, it's not going to go good. Very good. This has been pretty consistent even even in the previous build. So, I'm not too surprised there. Uh, got a group of people here to our right, but it doesn't seem like they're okay, now they're moving, so we'll let them pass by. We have a red light anyways.

[00:22:37]We have curbside selected as our drop off destination as usual. This is our typical destination that we have been uh favoring over the last couple of weeks, if not months, in in some of the FSD videos.

[00:22:51]But I am very very pleased to see that it's not turning on red. So no regression there. The only regression I'm personally hearing is handicap spots. Like I mentioned, takeoff speed on MadMax, I mean for me that felt about the same.

[00:23:07]So not much of a difference there. This pedestrian is at the bus stop waiting it. the the rain right now is kind of a mist, so it's not really it's not causing any visibility loss really. I mean, if anything, it's like a mile away where that visibility starts to degrade a little bit. So, it really shouldn't have any issues with visibility in this type of weather. It is misty, but not that bad at all.

[00:23:36]I believe this road has significant potholes. Um, I do see they treated a few since I've last been on this road, which is good.

[00:23:47]That pothole was treated.

[00:23:50]So, I'm keeping my eye out that that pothole is not treated. Okay. So, it didn't really try and avoid it.

[00:24:15]Before we get to the the destination here, we are going to disengage purposely just so I can show you what the new navigation menu looks like and so that I can see it cuz I haven't seen it yet.

[00:24:28]Going to go ahead and wipe the windshield here.

[00:24:33]Okay, making a lane change over to the left.

[00:24:42]This Toyota RAV 4 is making a lane change in the middle of an intersection, which is less than ideal. You shouldn't really be doing that. Tesla FSD actually just did that. Typically, you want to wait until you get past the intersection. Looks like this Volvo here is trying to parallel park and is blocking a lot of traffic.

[00:25:11]We're about 4 minutes away from the destination here. So, like I said, once we get a little bit closer, we're going to disengage. I'm very excited to see the disengagement menu. Apparently, it won't go away unless you select one option. So, the only way to forcefully change it is to select something.

[00:25:33]Go ahead and defog the uh windshield a little bit here.

[00:25:42]It's always so exciting to get a new build of FSD. It's awesome. Uh typically I do like to live stream new builds like this and I probably will. It just my schedule this week goes a little bit crazy. So, we'll see how I can incorporate that either this week or maybe into the upcoming weekend here.

[00:26:07]Still in MadMax. Been in MadMax this entire time since we switched over from Hurry a little while ago.

[00:26:28]Just about a a mile away from the destination drop off.

[00:26:52]Going to go ahead and wipe here. Looks like it's misting a little bit harder here as we get closer to the drop off.

[00:27:00]And you can see the buildings in the background there. Um c the visibility is is definitely low, but not anything that should be impacting FSD by any means.

[00:27:10]Okay, we got this bus trying to turn out into the main line here. It was waiting patiently so it didn't uh FSD didn't react which it didn't need to about6 miles away now 6.5 miles away from the drop off 2 minutes.

[00:27:33]This road does have a lot of potholes as Okay, my camera just fell.

[00:27:43]Camera just fell. But I'm going to put this back up here.

[00:27:48]Well, that was kind of funny. Hopefully the footage is still going. Looks like it is still going.

[00:28:05]Okay. So, now we're just about a minute away from the the destination here. So, what I'm going to do is since the camera already dropped, I'm going to go ahead and disengage. So, right here it says, "Why did you interfere?" Uh, "Why did you intervene? Preference, discomfort, critical, or navigation." And there's no way to get rid of this popup. So, I just wanted to show you this. There's no way to get rid of it. Like, you can't click out. Even if I click here, you can control this. You can start self-driving still. So, I can start that. But you have to click an option here. So for this I'll just do I don't know preference for now and then it goes away. Um so that was pretty neat. But yeah, anyways guys, I think that's uh that's it for this video. I just wanted to kind of document the first drive with 14.3.2.

[00:28:54]Um overall thoughts on this very first drive.

[00:28:58]Not an extreme notable difference for me. Going to go ahead and re-engage FSD from here. Um but you know, we're going to we're going to continue to test this.

[00:29:06]MadMax does seem that it pushes off the line pretty quick, which is great to see. I mean, you would expect that in MadMax.
