CRISPR Explained in 30 Seconds 🧬✂️ (How We Edit DNA)Added:
Think of CRISPR as molecular scissors plus a GPS system for DNA. So, imagine you can open DNA like a Word document on your computer. You can delete a typo, fix what you need to fix, and then click save and it saves forever. That's kind of the goal of CRISPR. So, step-by-step, targeting. The gRNA binds to a complementary DNA sequence. On that binding, the Cas9 attaches to the DNA at the PAM sites. The Cas9 then creates a double-stranded break via {quote} cutting. And then there's the repair, and this is where the editing happens.
So, there's one of two pathways. There is non-homologous end joining, which is quick and easy. It introduces these errors, which we use for gene knockout, gene deletion. Or there's the homology-directed repair, which is precise repair and uses template DNA for gene replacement or insertion.
And that's it.
