Some infants have a small fat pad in the genital area that can cause the penis to appear to sink in or protrude, which is a normal anatomical variation and does not indicate improper circumcision; parents should gently push back on the fat pad to expose the penis for proper cleaning and monitoring.

How do you know if the circumcision on your baby was done correctly?
Added:Good afternoon, Dr. Anita Conner from Pediatric Hod Com CH Pediatrics in Bellaire, Houston, Texas. So, I had another question from one of my new moms.
Um, her little baby boy had had a circumcision done when he was born, and he'd come in for his 4-month checkup, and mom was a little concerned. She was like, you know, I don't know if it's been done very well or properly because it's a little hard to pee, and it's like his privates seem tend to sink down in, and they have to kind of keep pushing the back fatty pad down to expose his privates. Um, and when I examined the child, I just explained to the mom that the circumcision was done totally fine.
Some babies have this little fat pad in their private area, which can then kind of cause the little uh, privates of theirs um, to protrude so to sort of to sink in. And so, I always just say push back on the fat so that way the peeing the, you know, so the privates comes out a little bit so you can see it, and you can clean the area better. Um, and most of the time the circumcision was done totally fine. So, again, that's a question that sometimes comes up because parents are like, I don't know if this is supposed to be normal or not, especially if you've not seen um, that before. Um, it doesn't happen all the time, but there are some babies that can have a little fatty area in the privates. Um, and uh, it can look as if the circumcision wasn't done correctly.
