‘I Won't Fight Shadows Every Week’: Kallas Blasts Israeli FM's 'Blood Libel' Accusation Against Her

[00:00:00]We don't see always eye to eye with the Israelis. We are condemning the violent settlers on the West Bank. We are supporting the two-state solution, and I can't fight the shadows all the time.

[00:00:12]>> [music] >> Representative, a quick question. Any reaction regarding to the statement of the Israeli foreign minister saying that he will block any communication with you regarding your last meeting with the Palestinian Authority?

[00:00:27]>> Uh well, first of all, you have I think you have tens, if not hundreds, of statements on Israel and Gaza by me.

[00:00:37]So, on the record. And and you you see what I what I've been saying.

[00:00:43]I've been representing European Union, and it's it's true that we don't see always eye to eye with the Israelis. For example, regarding the violent settlers and expansion of settlements on the on the West Bank. We have been very critical. I've had very good, open, and frank, and sometimes very difficult discussions with the Minister Saar that I found very much, you know, constructive. So, so we are willing to, of course, continue with this, but we can't deny also the criticism, and and these talks have to be open.

[00:01:23]>> Representative, are there Do you believe that what the committee is a partner of?

[00:01:29]>> Well, what is what is our position, you know very well. I mean, this is what we have been stating. I mean, we are supporting the two-state solution.

[00:01:39]We are also really asking the humanitarian aid to get into Gaza to help the people.

[00:01:46]And and we are condemning the violent settlers on the West Bank because it's actually making this two-state solution impossible. So, so these are our positions, and and I can't fight the shadows all the time. I mean, if we you can take all the public statements that I've made and I will not go down down that road that I will comment on anything what was made or said or not said behind the closed doors because we have already seen so many cases like this. I will fight this every every week. Somebody says I said something somewhere. So, so let's stick to those statements that I'm making and you have access to me all the time every every week. So, so this is the European position that I'm representing.

[00:02:33]So, we have two busy days ahead, European Council meeting. So, first we start of course with Ukraine.

[00:02:42]We see that Russia is not doing well in this war and we see that Ukraine is stronger on the battlefield as well as well as, you know, on the other issues we were just talking in the Ukraine Support Group what more can be done to support Ukraine but also pressure Russia so that they would sit down to a negotiation table and we will discuss this today. So, we have the 21st package of sanctions on the table and I really hope that we can move swiftly with the adoption of that because that goes hand in hand with also the deep strikes that Ukraine is doing so that the pressure would mount on Russia to stop this war. And then, of course, tomorrow we will also have the discussions on the Middle East.

[00:03:31]There um um we have seen now the signing of the MOU with US and Iran. It gives really a good basis for stopping this war and opening the Strait of Hormuz but of course there's also this Um, uh, days for negotiating, uh, more complex, uh, subjects like, uh, nuclear, um, for example, where we have also offered our expertise because we have done the nuclear negotiations before.

[00:04:04]Uh, Lebanon, um, we are concerned what is happening there and of course we're also supporting, uh, the Lebanese armed forces, uh, so that there would be stability and they would be able to, uh, disarm Hezbollah. We know that UNIFIL, uh, mission is going to end, uh, this, uh, this year. Um, so this, um, the talks are ongoing also to have, um, a separate, uh, mission, uh, to to with the different mandate also to, uh, cover that. And of course then, uh, we are also discussing, uh, the peace plan for for Gaza. Uh, there's not much moving on the, uh, peace, uh, agreement, uh, or the implementation of it. So, so this is, uh, what we will, um, talk about, what more can we do, uh, in order to advance peace.
