Diplomatic negotiations require sustained pressure and strategic leverage to achieve meaningful behavioral changes in adversarial nations, as demonstrated by the US-Iran nuclear negotiations where economic sanctions and strategic positioning create incentives for compliance, though the process requires patience and comprehensive addressing of multiple interconnected issues including nuclear programs, territorial disputes, and regional stability concerns.

Vance makes STUNNING case for America’s leverage over Iran
Added:Vice President J.D. Vance has postponed his trip to Switzerland for talks with Iran. Now, this comes as Iran threatens more attacks if the US violates the peace agreement. Here's Vice President Vance addressing the skeptics. Roll it.
>> I certainly think they recognize the leverage that the United States has over them. We've seen that in a number of our conversations. We've seen that just in their behavior over the last couple of days. They certainly recognize that the United States has great leverage. Will that ultimately lead to a change in behavior? I don't know.
Uh you know, I've seen skeptics of the deal. People say, "The Iranians will never change their behavior." Well, maybe that's true. And if so, they don't get any of the benefits of the bargain.
But, isn't it worth trying?
>> House Armed Services Committee member Mike Turner joins us now here in New York. Um in what way would you say that you are a skeptic of this deal?
>> Well, Stuart, I think everybody is a skeptic of Iran. Uh and and you have to start from that that point. Uh but, that doesn't necessarily mean that you have to be a skeptic of whether or not we can move forward and and find a deal. I mean, in the beginning of this, you have the administration said uh very clearly very openly uh that they had begun this this military um intervention uh to address the threat of Iran and their um nuclear enrichment program and the threat of Iran as uh on its quest for a nuclear weapon.
Um and Iran refused to declare that they would not seek a nuclear weapon. Well, now they have done so, proving that they can be negotiated with. They're taking the step in this um MOU, the this agreement to um enter into negotiations uh having said that they will will take that step. Now, the the um uh the embargo, the uh uh blocking of the um the straits was a a result of their having blocked the straits. And and that also was addressed in this agreement. So, opening of the straits, the addressing of the issue uh of their nuclear uh program and their enrichment are now part of the negotiations that will go forward. I will have to see.
>> But, it's going to take a lot of time, isn't it?
>> There's a lot that's going to have to be done. We have the issue of enrichment.
We have the issue of the the nuclear material that is there. You have the issue of the funds that are frozen. What's going to happen with respect to the oil that's going to flow, how the uh the program that is going to hopefully result in investment in in Iran and maybe help the people in Iran and bring them toward the west will be administered.
>> If they procrastinate and play for time as they always do and it goes on and on and on, President Trump would find it very difficult to revert to military power, start bombing them again. That would be very difficult.
>> Well, the thing that has to be addressed and and as we saw here in what has has paused the negotiations from going forward is that they are the largest supporter of terrorism in the world and and terrorist organizations, Hezbollah having attacked Iran Excuse me, Hezbollah having with Iran's support long-time support now having attacked Israel has uh broken these negotiations.
Uh the it's great that we see now that there is a ceasefire between them, but you know, we're going to have to see how that will go forward. Israel has to have the right to defend themselves.
It had There has to be stability for Lebanon itself. They have to have their sovereignty respected. These attacks are happening uh by Israel upon Hezbollah in Lebanon, not attacks to Lebanon. So, hopefully we can have some stability in the region.
>> A lot of hope out there, isn't it? All right. Change the subject. Ukraine unleashed its largest drone strike yet on Moscow. I don't know how many drones went over there, but they hit Moscow.
You've been supporting Ukraine for a while. Is this war In this war, Uh, is uh, beginning to get the upper hand? Do they have an advantage now that uh, Mr. Trump has uh, made his peace deal with Iran?
>> Well, one thing's for certain, this is a complete war of aggression by Russia and we're seeing just the murderousness of Russia as they're attacking innocent uh, civilians in Kyiv. Uh, they've attacked you know, one of the most sacred sites in Kyiv as we saw the uh, the the the church that was uh, just unbelievably uh, attacked. And now um, you see the Ukraine through the perfection of uh, their technology is being able to take these attacks to Russia themselves as Russia's been ineffective in being able to uh, push forward into Ukraine. It's destabilizing Russia. What the United States needs to do now, uh, the United States needs to move forward with sanctions against Russia uh, making it more difficult for them with their oil economy to support this murderous aggression.
>> And you think that would bring them to the table with Ukraine?
>> support in Congress to do so. Every time that there's been support for Ukraine on the House floor, it's been overwhelming, over 300 votes out of 435. Uh, the United States needs to support the Ukrainian people and bring this war to an end.
>> Got it. Congressman, thanks for joining us. Always a pleasure. Thank you very much, sir. Appreciate it.
