When heavy equipment pins become seized and cannot be removed through conventional methods, an exothermic lance can be used to cut through the metal by generating extreme heat through a chemical reaction between oxygen and a fuel rod, allowing the pins to be melted out of their bosses.

The Repair NOBODY Wanted To Touch…
Added:All right, guys. It's been several weeks since we've uh done a little update on the Old International here, but it is at an old buddy's house right now back in my hometown actually. And uh he is a very talented fabricator and does professional welding. He has a whole mobile uh you know, welding fabricator, you know, outfit truck and everything here. and he said that he would be able to help me out with this whole pin situation on the back and my rollers and the whole pins as far as like the the entire dump hoist body. You can see we're missing a C clip there. The bushings are all, you know, blown out.
The bosses need replaced. And the big thing was was that the these rollers, the the the pin was all, you know, worn out. There was no bearing or or no bushing left in there. So, he said that he would be able to help me out. And he's gotten further than anybody else that's tried this. And as you can see, he has gotten the entire center section of the pin cut out.
But the problem is these two sections ain't moving at all.
Not moving whatsoever. You can see he's heated them. He's torched them. He's he's tried all different things, burning them out, couldn't do it. So, what he had to do, he came to the conclusion that he needed what's called an exofothermic lance. And here is the part of the pin, you know, that he cut off. This is where the roller actually rode. And you can see just how, you know, worn out that is. And it's it's basically flat on the top there.
So, the the the rollers weren't really rolling whatsoever. But his plan is to use his exothermic lance with these cutting rods, which can cut through stainless steel, which these pins are.
Um, they can cut through concrete, rock, you name it, basically anything. And he essentially wants to burn these pins out of here and melt them out of here. So that is what I have showed up to witness. So these are the pins that he made up. As you can see, he's already beveled down the edge and uh, you know, drilled out the hole for the keeper bolt. But these pins are 2 and 1/2 in in diameter. These are serious serious pins. This one's a little smaller, but this main pin for the rollers is 2 1/2 in in diameter by I think 49 in long. It is extremely heavy. and he was able to make these. And that's what's going to be going in. But first, we need to get what's in there currently out.

Well, guys, I recently got back the truck here after several months of it being down. It is currently Wednesday, June 17th, and I think we dropped off the truck towards the middle of February at my buddy's first shop. As you can see here, Hayes loves playing in the truck.
Right, buddy? Truck.
Doesn't get any better than that. But my buddy did a lot of work to it. As you can see, we got brand new rollers back here.
brand new bosses, keeper pins, grease fittings. He machined this pin and the other pin that's up there. We got, you know, the same thing over on this side. And he's still not entirely done yet. Um, he's going to be helping me with making a new uh DOT marker light bracket right there, as well as replacing this old rotted out um like rear bumper kind of thing, whatever you want to call this. As you can see, it's all rotted out, hodge podgeed together. We're going to be coming up with something pretty darn cool.
Probably going to be getting rid of whatever this was used for at some point in this truck's life. But I really like this truck. I think it looks pretty sharp. I think it it's got a great styling to it and uh I think it's totally worth putting the time and effort into uh fixing it up and making it exactly what I want. And who knows, maybe someday there'll be a 16-year-old boy sitting up here in this cab learning how to drive a stick. So, I can't wait for that day to come. But just a quick little, you know, reintroduction of the truck. As you can see here, I did finally get it lettered up with my company name as well as my DOT numbers.
I think we're going to have a good rest of the busy season utilizing this big old girl.
