REMOVING THE FOG for a Deep Dive Terrain & Caves around the Alien Powerplant in Subnautica 2
Added:All right, welcome back ladies and gentlemen to the no fog series here in Subnotica 2 where we toggle off the farm. And today we're going to be no clipping through the map to hopefully check out what potential tunnel systems there might be forming on this side of the map, the western side. Well, no, not the western, but like the most eastern side of the map where you can generally go no further because the terrain is kind of socked in by this like kind of mountainy it's basically a quarry. Like if you look at it now with all of the fog turned off, this area here probably started out as like a hard quarry. Then after they dug out all the goodies, then they put in these metal farms to pull the different metal materials out of the water for heavy metals.
And so just for the sake of saying that we've done so, I'm going to cruise over here. Let me make sure it's daytime, too.
And then we're going to cruise over here to the edge of the map just so you can kind of see what it looks like over here. There's not a lot going on on the eastern most fringes of the map. There's even less than what's going on over on the western side. If we drive over here to the edge, you can see that it just kind of goes over and it it it falls and descends down to this neat little sandbar here. Then it immediately falls off to like a a a masher cliff as it falls down to the bottom of the I guess like the plane where they're currently building everything.
So, what we want to do here today is we're going to go over to the metal farms. We're going to no clip through the ground and we're going to see what it's like underneath of there. Someone mentioned that there is some cave areas under there. And I have seen some of that spawn in the distance as the terrain is loading and unloading, but I have a feeling that most of the caves are just the bottom halves of these big cliff rocks that they've got here because I think those are just like giant chunks and they create these mountain sides or these cliff sides by just lining them up and I think they're really tall beneath the ground. So, we're going to check that out here today and see what we can see.
Previously, we went to go check out the world tree over there, and it was kind of cool.
You could see where things might be going in the future, and it looks like most of the stuff, at least for what they've already been playing around with adding. This isn't to say there'll never be anything around the starter area, but it looks like most of it's to the north for the most part, at least right now.
But this wouldn't be the first time in the history of Subnotica that there was a perfectly complete area and then the devs were like, "Oh, we forgot to put an entrance to the underground caves and then the next patch there's a giant hole in the middle of it and then all of a sudden there's a way down into the caves below." So, let me go back to my mods and then we want to have the no clip.
Let's see. It's down here somewhere.
Here it is. No clip.
So once that's enabled, we will exit.
And basically the way that this works is I can't Looks like I froze the game here for a sec.
So ostensibly the way that this works is I can't noclipip with the the tadpole, which is very unfortunate because this thing's very fast, but I can equip my wake makers and I can just slip through the ground and we can just flip all the way through into oblivion or at least as close to oblivion as we can.
This basically just going to take us directly under the map. And this is where I was in the other video where I was showing you how to scoot around beneath the terrain. And this is where we're going to be doing to kind of check out the cavernous areas beneath the power generator and also beneath the metal farm. So, there's not a lot that goes on too too deep here beneath the farm itself. There's just the little pool area beneath the acid pools that you can see over here. And if you're unlucky enough to have your uh Axom bacterial cultures disappear beneath the ground, a lot of them end up in this little pocket here that you see where you can swim around down here and pick them up. Honestly, if you're going to go through the hassle of coming over here to try to retrieve lost axom bacterial cultures, you might as well just install the mods to let you freebuild and just not worry about it.
But I'm going to leave the option completely up to you. So, as we kind of cruise to the east some more, like I said, you've got a lot of these rocks over here that form those rocky basin walls. And I think what people were seeing as the territory and the terrain was loading and unloading was a lot of this rocky outcroppings here where these just go really far underground because they're just one big solid piece.
So, the developers, I'm sure, just spawned them and lined them up in the editor in order to create all of this cool looking architectural underground goodies. But it does form what does feel like an actual underground cavern system. And I could totally see these rocks being used to do just that because they already are. If you go underneath of the alien observatory, this is the exact sort of inverted stuff that you can see in there that forms those cavern systems.
Now, this right here, this is over next to where you see the silver deposit. So, there's this little side passage over here next to where this Titan rock boore goes up into the wall. And then here is this silver passage. Now, once you go inside of here, I'll bet you this bubble on the other side, this big thing here is actually the spot underneath of that wreckage where we fight the parasites to free the Titan rock boore and the angel comb. And yeah, that's exactly what this spot is.
So, that's this little pocket.
It looks like a lot of these areas you can kind of figure out where you are just by the negative space around you, which I guess makes sense.
They don't have a lot of filler material inside of here because why would you?
People aren't even supposed to be able to get in here. They're supposed to impact these solid rock formations and that's supposed to stop them dead.
But again, it would be super easy for Subnotica's developer team to convert these empty spaces between everything into functional caverns if they actually wanted to.
And here is like that that top plateau area. And I'm sure up at the top here is the wreckage. And I'm sure some of it's clipping through the ceiling right now.
And if I zip up here, I'll bet we can find some of those wreckages that we normally have to explore in order to find different blueprints.
So, where am I? I'm not too far away.
We're kind of close. There's a little lava pit over there. What I'm really looking for is like the the human remnants. There's one set over there, but I was really looking for this wreckage right here. I'm curious what that looks like if you come at it from beneath the ground. So, let's dip back down under here. Like, we're a street shark. Bonus points if you ever watch the Street Sharks growing up. It's one of my favorite childhood shows. That and Darkwing Duck was a real big fan.
So, there's not a lot that you can see from directly below this particular wreckage cuz it's kind of stilted up on top of these rocks.
But yeah, no, I guess there's not really anything clipping down beneath the the earth for this one. There's a little bit of a gap and then you come up here and then then you see all of this torn apart wreckage for this particular piece of the cicada. All right.
It could be worse. I still think it's interesting that you get to see what the inside shapes look like for certain objects.
The inverse of things can be interesting. And I used to once upon a time I used to make a lot of custom Starcraft one and two maps. Not two, but mostly Starcraft 1 and Brood Wars. I keep thinking about Brood Wars as like game number two, just like I used to think about Subnotica as game number two, but this is Subnotica 2, and Brood Wars was just a DLC.
Oh yeah, there's more um you look around, there's more shelves inside of here, just like what you Oh, and there's actually a whole bunch of resources that spawn in here, too, that you can't really get at unless you clip under the ground. So yeah, there's some celestine over here and over here. And there's some quartz and titanium. That's kind of interesting. Let's make sure it stays day so I can actually see down here.
Oh, there's a whole bunch of detail down here that you normally don't even get to see.
So, I think that there's a theory that they could be adding stuff underground wouldn't be too far-fetched because again, there's a lot of space down here that you could put stuff in. So, that's certainly not the most far-fetched theory that I've seen.
What else have we got down here? More Titan rock bore pieces.
We're in one of the magma pockets underneath of the power plant right now.
And there's a lot of these.
Yeah. I mean, the caverns and caves and areas beneath here definitely look kind of like if you go to the properly constructed caves over there next to the alien observatory.
There is all kinds of space for all kinds of goodies. I could definitely see that. The other thing I was thinking about for this area is when you're building a high tech power plant facility, there's obviously going to be lots of pipe work that goes on under the ground when you're developing something like this. So, there's definitely space to work with under there where there could be tunnels, maintenance tunnels, maintenance shafts. And the other thing I considered is that people were saying that these buildings over here, the ones right in front of me, could be places where like the workers who used to run this place would stay because these kind of look like little houses. I am wondering when they're going to start adding the actual Axom and the tailings to this game because they're supposed to be around this area guarding against humans.
Granted, it has been 28 to 30 years since the original colonists that were trying to make their way here woke up and started doing stuff, but you know, I mean, they they could still be around.
So, this interior here actually is modeled inside of these little buildings here. This totally could be a house of some kind with like beds in it and storage and stuff.
Although, these are looking more turbiney and less like a house now that I'm actually inside of them.
So, there is that. But, there is also these things that look like they're front doors.
So, jury's out on that one. And there are like a couple different sizes of them. See if any of them have any hidden goodies inside of them. Cuz the one thing that could tell you whether or not this is going to be used for something in the future is if you no clip into an a structure and you find something. Wait a minute. I'm going to no clip into that control tower over there and see if there's anything inside. But first, is there anything inside of here?
It looks like the answer is no, which is kind of disappointing. But again, you wouldn't put something in here if you were never going to use it as a as a designer. So unless they were like halfway through designing the next phase before they got the all clear to release the game cuz there has been that whole thing between Unknown Worlds and Craftton where they really weren't sure when this stuff was going to end up getting properly released because of the lawsuit.
But uh aside from that, who knows?
I guess we could no clip inside the giant turbine. Worst thing we could do is become a smear of red amongst the water as the turbine tears us to pieces.
I mean, are you really living life if you didn't want to become a red clouded mist at least once?
Let's go see what's inside. It's Oh, okay. There's like some more detail.
This whole thing is very rusted, too.
Like you can actually see the details that they added in the metal texture work to make it look rusted internally.
Okay, that's actually pretty cool.
There's a lot of detailing going on in here. That was always the thing, right?
If you like watch designers like when Steve Jobs made sure that even though it wasn't as efficient that the resistors inside of the original Max looked pretty cuz if it's going to be transparent, they should be at least a little bit more symmetrical and visually pleasing cuz you're going to look at them.
Is there Oh, that's very bright up here.
Going to say, is there any more details inside this giant orbit? in the middle.
Oh, a little bit. It's like a platformy thing going on in here.
Yeah, you can almost follow this all the way inside now.
Yeah. Oh, that's very bright up there.
If you look straight up at the sun, don't do that. It's bad for you.
All right. All right. Well, there's nothing too crazy going on in any of these structures. I'm curious before I leave out of this. What's going on inside of the uh control center for the metal farms? There might be something in there.
Okay, so here is the control center for the power or not for the power plant, but for the metal farm. Interestingly enough, the lights on this thing also light up when you restore the power plant. So, I'm now wondering if in the next update to Subnotica 2, if perhaps activating this power plant hasn't activated more alien technology throughout the area of the game, cuz I could totally see this power plant feeding power to different like alien like cities and little towns and buildings from here all the way to the world tree. Let's make sure it stays day so I can see.
And let's see what's going on inside of here.
Oh, there's not even an internals for this bad boy. Now I'm sad. I was hoping there'd be goodies in here cuz it makes sense. I mean, this is another control center for alien technology, but there's not even clues in here. There's not even a a lawn chair with a note attached to it.
Okay. Well, that's a bit of a let down.
Is there anything inside of this rock over here? Uh there's the edge of the map. So, the shiver leviathan's here.
This isn't too terribly thick either.
this wall between the edge of the quarry and no man's land. Okay, I will say I think I take it back when I said earlier, am I trapped back here somehow?
Oh, okay. I guess I am.
That was weird.
Anyway, I will say I do take it back. I think if there was going to be a spot that leads from this area into other areas, there actually is two perfectly good outlets that they could use this tunnel over here. And yes, I do know it leads to another one of those little magma spots over here in the corner where in theory you could build something because there's heat back here to generate power. But they could put a little hole here that leads down and into a ravine.
And then there's another spot on the opposite side of this quarry that could be used to do the same thing over there in that corner.
So, what's going on in this wall? Is there anything hiding inside of here?
Not so much. A lot of these rock walls are not that thick, nor are they that deep down. They kind of just peek down here underneath of the quarry area where you can see the base of some of these metal farms.
And then if we peek over here, there's more of the quarry.
And then down underneath of here is that acid pool that I showed you at the beginning of this adventure.
So yeah, I mean, I guess people were right. I mean, there could be some cool tunnel work going on down here, but for right now, it's just sort of the uh in between areas between these pre-made rock chunks that the developers use in order to form this canyon and to form the rest of the area around the power plant and the alien observatory.
I think the last thing I'm going to look at over here before we exit is poking around inside the observation tower at the top of this hill because down here is where you fight the battle for freeing the Titan Rockore and the angel comb.
Do they place it right above the angel comb though? Maybe be kind of neat to see what's directly above here.
I mean, it is the the chamber for the end of the first part of early access.
So, and then here is even more information up here where they have the hologram for the end of the game.
And then up here is just more observatory. And there's also fish in here.
It's like this is just the top of the observatory.
Yeah, this is just near the very tippy top. Is there anything hiding in here?
Any secrets?
Not really.
You can kind of see the top of the ocean, the different instruments that hang out up here.
See the tree? But there's no more secrets inside of this either. There's not even like a weird Easter egg hiding in the walls in case you turned on no clipping and found it.
I think the intention with this series going forward is going to be after I uh play through each of the different updates and expansions to the game.
Anything new that they add, we will turn off the fog and go take a look see to see what they've added, changed, or adjusted. Flip through some walls and see what's going on. and otherwise just kind of explore the world that Unknown Worlds has crafted. So until next time, I've been your host, Larry. Don't forget to like and subscribe and I'll catch you later. Bye everybody. Have a good one.
