Debating Freedom in Galveston: A New Nation Conversation on Democracy, Liberation & Power

[00:00:00]How do I sign up? Cuz I'm ready for this debate. This whole question of even going beyond the Declaration of Independence is this long overdue. How can folk get involved?

[00:00:08]>> Well, I do want we're going to be posting on our website. You'll see you'll actually see the information about what's going to happen at the church, right? And we do want people who are coming to Galveston to be present, to participate, because it is a debate, right? It is the debates that we need to begin to happen. It's the same debates that happened in the convention. How do we How do we get our freedom in this country? How do we really have perpetual freedom and liberation in this country? And so we are going to have a debate about what that means. And allow for black folks in this century, right? To start to have that discussion about what does a new black What does a new nation really look like for us that enshrines our rights?

[00:00:47]And so the first discussion will happen at that very monumental historical church in Galveston. And we chose that church and we chose Galveston for a very particular reason, because we know if they're going to be celebrating 250 years of this country on July the 4th, but we're going to start talking about our liberation in a time when we believed our freedom began in this country. And so we chose Galveston for that reason. And in the other, of course, comfort community conversations and town halls will be advertised similarly, right? We are at a different time period, because we do know, as we saw and we've been seeing recently, this hostile reaction from from white folks to our liberation. So we do want to make sure that we are secure, but we will be putting out information so people will know how they can get engaged online, because not only will the people present at the church next Friday be able to participate in the discussion, but we also are going to try to make sure that the discussion can go also online, which is why we're streaming it, so people can also participate and have their voices recorded and also their their concerns, right, recorded.
