[00:00:38]It just keeps getting bigger and bigger.

[00:00:42]>> Well, I mean more numbers. It's like we're we're more numbers. We're closer to 20 than we are from number one.

[00:00:54]>> We have a lot planned. We're in Amish country and we're excited about it and you're going to see some I guess some different things. I have no idea what this huddle is bringing to us.

[00:01:08]>> So, uh, let's do roll the intro and we'll backtrack to starting last night and then get you up to speed.

[00:01:16]>> Sounds like a plan, >> I guess. So, >> we're going to breakfast, but we got to go back in time for you. So go go go rush rush on now.

[00:01:36]They didn't know where they would go, but it's got to be better than staying home. They switched it up.

And so I just kind of want to walk through answer any questions that you have and kind of go Hi, >> you guys are new. This is your first huddle together. So, we just wanted you to see that you're not alone in the, "Oh my gosh, what have I gotten myself into?"

[00:02:39]Um, and there's so many volunteers here that are going to just help to make sure that your weekend is um, very memorable.

[00:02:48]But instead of repeating ourselves a gazillion times, the people that have been to a huddle before, we just kind of wanted to ease your mind um, in a smaller group before um, and just kind of go over some things so that you just feel comfortable. And we will see you for breakfast at 8. Enjoy your evening together.

[00:03:21]We're in this lovely little RV park in Millersburg is where we're at in Ohio.

[00:03:28]Uh it's a small park. It's probably I don't know. We have the whole park and this is a smaller huddle. There's only like I think 75 or 80 of us here. So, all of our events don't have to be big.

[00:03:42]So, if you're watching along and you're wondering, you can still come to one of the events if you don't like big things.

[00:03:49]But, we're having early breakfast this morning because um Sheila's got us planned to go to uh I guess a couple Amish tours today.

[00:04:00]That's what I've been told anyway. So, we're having breakfast together early.

[00:04:05]So, you early morning risers would love that.

[00:04:35]They switched it up on us and gave us biscuits and gravy. But I don't know if those you guys, but those biscuits were pretty stinking good.

[00:04:43]>> I didn't have >> Okay, so um let's I Last night I put in the spreadsheet I took from the spreadsheet, put it in Facebook, uh where you're going. So you don't need to arrive till 9:30 because it doesn't our tour doesn't actually start till 10:00. So if you get there at 9:15 then you're really just standing around for 45 minutes. So by already have accounted for you need to be there at 9:30. We can kind of get everything organized into groups. Everything's about 10 minutes away today.

[00:07:38]A dramatic story of the history of the Amish Knights can be experienced in this building by touring the authentic 265 ft cycllorama entitled Behalt.

[00:07:51]Immigrant German artist Hines go completed this massive painting in 1992.

[00:07:59]Behalt comes from the German behalan meaning to keep or remember.

[00:08:06]It's a 30inute journey back into the unique story of our culture, Christian faith, and lifestyle.

[00:08:21]Ah, it's a mural.

[00:08:24]>> This is the whole story in a 360°ree mural.

[00:08:34]>> Wow. Put that some of those cher from to the very bottom to the top. He's our lord and savior. Our king, the founder foundation of our faith. Here we have the scene of the crucifixion, the empty tomb with the angel and guard became concerned when they saw how many of their farmers were leaving and conditions did improve for the menites at state to the point where some became extremely wealthy owning huge estates.

[00:09:02]But time went on and we come to the Russian Revolution.

[00:09:06]Unfortunately for these menites, these battles were fought right in the areas where they live.

[00:09:27]We made it to the Yodor house.

[00:09:30]I think it's a working Amish farm. We'll find out more information here as everyone's coming in.

[00:09:41]It is kind of funny to see us always go in and take over places. If you've ever been to one of our events, we don't always just sit around the RV park.

[00:09:49]We're always out doing things together.

[00:09:51]I think that's probably what makes our events so unique.

[00:10:45]>> Okay. So yeah, he's likes to follow groups around. Um, here in the kitchen of a Schwarz and trooper home, we have a wood burning stove that's used for cooking and baking. Now, the family would have their gardens, but they would also raise a lot of animals, so they had their own eggs, milk, and meat. Many of the Schwarzers still make their own butter and a butter chart. Um, they would have fruit trees and berry bushes in their yard. So they do a lot of of canning of fruit um from their homes as well. Um >> it's amazing how cool it is in these houses.

[00:15:38]No. Uh, the whole farm is 120 acres and there's like 60 acres up here with 4 to 500 animals and birds. And some of these you feed off of your hand. Like llama and elk, hold your hand flat, feed them off your hand. And the cows and the buffalo when they come up, usually they open their mouth. Just take some in your your hand, drop it in their mouth with your hand. Open your mouth.

[00:16:04]And if the birds come over, you feed them out the bucket only. Just hold the bucket on the outside.

Tonight's just going to be a night to just relax a little bit and hang out with each other because on Sunday, um, I guess we might have an Amish band coming.

[00:25:08]Yesterday I was sitting at this table and Christina was asking about this dog and Brad said, "Well, if you get that dog, we're not going to any more huddles."

[00:26:11]>> Okay. So, a couple of things. Uh I wanted to just um >> keep them in their camper.

[00:26:16]>> First of all, thank you for um bringing these supplies to bless the students that are going to be, you know, headed to school this fall. I wanted to also tell you a little bit about um for those of you that are new, we also do a lot of partnering with Convoy of Hope um that they have we have a retreat and a retreat/huddle in Tona Ridge this coming September and we'll be going to their new Carterville location where we'll kind of and we're going to do a service project with Convoy of Hope there. But Convoy of Hope is just um somebody that we found that they have a lot of things that we are interested in. Disaster relief, um reaching into areas of poverty. Um and so we're excited about what that's going to look like in the future. We have had people that went for training uh for disaster relief and now we just wait for a disaster in which where they need our help. Um that's seems weird, doesn't it? um >> training we hope we never have to use, >> right? But we know uh how the story goes and so we have a feeling we're going to need it a lot. Um so here's the plan for the backpacks.

[00:27:33]You will pick up a backpack. You'll go down this first row on the inside and you will there's the sticky note that says um what it is. So, it'll say pencil box and then it'll say one. That means we just need one pencil box. And I want to just pray over these backpacks and where these we these um are going and for the students that are going to receive them. And also at the very end there is a bag and this will be out on the for the until this evening. I found out that the Amish band that is coming, they have a ministry that they go and they minister th to those that are doing prison ministry. So, they have a whole prison ministry and they just go and talk to people that are incarcerated. Um they help the families of people that are incarcerated. So, if you are so inclined, that'll be an additional part of our give back to do a donation, then we will bless them this evening when they come. We'll have this out through the potluck and stuff. So, when they come this evening, we're just going to bless them and their prison ministry of how they minister to the people around here. So, that's what this is for.

[00:28:44]>> Um, they help their community and they also have a ministry to help those, you know, outside um that have made some poor choices. So, I just think that that's a beautiful thing. All right, I'm just going to pray for uh our these backpacks. Father, I thank you first of all for this beautiful weather that you have blessed us with. Just the peacefulness of this countryside.

[00:29:09]We hear you in the whistling of the birds, the scarring of the little animals, the beautiful sun that is just warming our bodies. And we just praise you for this earth that you have created.

[00:29:24]I just ask that you continue to use this community to reach people to just let them know that they are loved, that they are seen, that they are not forgotten.

[00:29:35]And right now, Father, I ask that you um just bless the people that have brought all these supplies to build these backpacks for the kids in the Covington County, Alabama area. Father, just bless their year. May they just feel empowered and encouraged. Here we go.

[00:30:27]I know a place >> is the fact that we have spent four days immersed in another culture. Right?

[00:30:46]We've spent time eating their food.

[00:30:50]uh visiting their homes, eating their food, listening to their stories. We were on a farm and were licked by their cows and their water buffalo. Um we toured their community. We've also heard a different dialect and different words that they use, right? Um they have a different shared language.

[00:31:13]And then soon Todd and I are headed to Andalusia, Alabama. That's like the deep south.

[00:31:21]>> They too have their own language.

[00:31:23]Different words mean different things.

[00:31:25]And for some reason, I find myself I like squit my eyes when they're talking.

[00:31:30]Like that's going to help me understand that. What are you saying? Right? Like I'm trying trying to understand. I'm going to have to learn that language.

[00:31:38]But they have their own lingo and language. And this last right before we got here, we spent I don't know three weeks in Kansas City with the grandkids.

[00:31:49]They probably squint their eyes a little bit going, "What' she say?" Right? We had our own shared language. And then us as a switch crew, we even have a few things like if I say propane, something different, right?

[00:32:06]>> Or I say tree crabs.

[00:32:10]Right. That brings I could even say picnic right? We have our own things. Maybe we say cold please.

[00:32:20]>> I have brownies.

[00:32:21]>> We have our own language. We have our own shared experience. Develop languages.

[00:32:27]>> The thing I want you to realize is that a language determines who you belong to.

[00:32:35]So I want to look at John 10 3-6. Here, this is where Jesus is talking to the religious leaders of his time and he's speaking to them in words that during that time, that culture, that community would make sense. He's talking about sheep and a shepherd. And what's interesting is that right before this conversation, Jesus had just healed a man that was blind since birth. And these religious leaders were confronting Jesus about healing that man because he healed that man on the wrong day.

[00:33:12]>> Sure.

[00:33:13]>> Yeah. All right. Perfect. All right.

[00:34:41]And I just wanted to just take you guys for a drive back to the RV park because the countryside is just so peaceful here. But baked goods for sure.

[00:34:55]There's cheese, amazing cheese curds made here as well.

[00:35:01]But there's just something very I don't know. It's just they got this calm peacefulness to uh this area. So, I'm going to take you for a drive on the way back. We've just really enjoyed exploring uh together with the crew, and we'd love for you to come join us. cuz we have a couple more of events this year where we're going to explore other areas and we'd love to do that with you.

[00:37:05]There's all these power lines, but then you see none of the power comes off onto the to the house. They do have um a lot of the homes have solar. Um their their barns and the areas where they're working have generators.

[00:41:46]>> As you know, at the Ohio Huddle, um we did a give back where we packed backpacks for kids that will be going to school uh this fall.

[00:41:58]and we packed them up there. But we knew as we were coming down to Cypress Landing that this community could really use those. And so this is how the Switch Crew impact um just expands across the United States. People from all over met in Ohio for an event, brought supplies to help kids. We packed those all up into backpacks. And now I'm here in Alabama getting ready to drop those off so that kids can pick up new supplies to make their school year uh just a little bit uh sweeter, right? It's fun to get a new backpack and school supplies for what you need to go to school. Um, so I want to say thank you to the crew uh for always supporting um our our giveback projects and we're just going to start making um an impact here in the Andalusia area around Cypress Landing, which I think is super cool. So, I'm headed in figuring out where I need to park in order to um get these backpacks delivered. But I can't wait to show you.

[00:43:07]Look at like the whole Bronco is full. And that box that box has got extra supplies that we can give the teachers.

[00:43:58]people in the community how they're they are helping. They have a summer program for kids. So, I saw the kids in there.

[00:44:05]They're playing uh having snack. Some are playing in the gym. But switch crew, it just means a lot.
