Ireland voluntarily opted into the EU Migration Pact without obligation, and the current political landscape has reduced ministerial accountability, with ministers now deflecting responsibility through investigations rather than accepting blame; this, combined with economic hardship where citizens struggle with basic needs like heating and food while the government claims prosperity, has created public frustration and disengagement from politics.

Exclusive Interview with TD Ken O Flynn out this evening at 8pm
Added:Can can Ireland say no to the EU, Ken?
Are we in a position where the government can't say no? Let's say the migration pact, which is the most important thing that's >> Look at the Look at the Look at the migration pact. Ireland opted in. It was under no obligation [music] from Europe to opt in or out. There was no obligation upon this country, but they decided to opt in. Why?
>> Well, you know, go back and look at things in the [music] last 20 years, you know.
I can't remember a time when ministers were held responsible. When something [music] went wrong in a hospital or something went wrong in the department or something went wrong, ministers were held responsible.
You now have [music] all these NGOs and groups to slur HSE, where a minister can put up his hands or her hands and [music] say, "Nothing to do with me. I'm now commissioning a report and I'm having an investigation into this."
And I think it The The demographic has changed.
>> [music] >> And there's really hard-working migrants in this country, right? But because of the or I suppose lack of border control and what we've seen with migrants that have committed heinous crimes, having previous [music] history of criminal backgrounds in other places, only to come out later after the incident occurs. [music] You're also finding a situation where the good hard-working migrants are being sort of grouped in together under one umbrella with those that are coming in because there's there's a despair in people. Like people are looking for hope, people looking [music] for direction, people looking at how can we change things? How can we opt out of this migration pact that we didn't necessarily sign up for in the first place, but the government made a decision? Where do people turn, Ken? How can people How can people make change in a positive manner? How can What What directions can people take?
>> But But that's what [music] they want you to be. Right. They want you to be sick of politics. They want you to be sick of them. They want you to say you're all the same.
Because they want to stay in power.
And they're relying on the traditional [music] vote and the party member vote that they have, that they have a grasp of.
>> Absolutely.
>> And they want less and less people [music] going out registering to vote or getting involved in politics or saying there is a possible change. There is change. [music] There is change available to people.
You're going to find them today with double dough and tell you how well they're doing.
>> Oh, of course.
>> You know, [music] we have a government that are coming out telling us day in day out, we're never richer than we were before.
I have yet to meet somebody in this country [music] who feels better off today. And people that are two or three euros over the threshold for to get a medical card.
These are people in their 70s.
These are people with various illnesses.
>> Yeah.
>> And they're then watching that this government, who has never been doing so well and we never were wealthier before, is able to spend and able to hand out medical cards to people who have never contributed to Irish society.
>> Yeah.
>> And that annoys people. And that hurts people. And if mainstream media and journalists don't understand that, then they need to talk to ordinary people.
They need to talk to people in in their homes. They need to talk to people that are suffering. They need to talk to people that are genuine and I hate using the phrase cuz it's been trashed around in Leinster House quite a lot, heating and eating.
>> Yeah.
>> But I know a lot of those older people that are choosing [clears throat] between heating and eating.
>> Yeah.
