The New York Jets' 2026 training camp features five key storylines: the offensive line chemistry and continuity with key players like Titman and Membu; the tight end tandem of Mason Taylor and C.J. Uzomah; the running back trio of Breece Hall, Braelon Allen, and Isaiah Davis; the defensive line depth with players like Will McDonald and David Bailey; and the quarterback-receiver chemistry between Geno Smith and AD Mitchell. These position groups represent the foundation for the Jets' potential success, with the offensive line and defensive line being critical to establishing team identity and competitive balance.

A lot of big things coming up. As previously mentioned in the opening, it's Ken O'Brien week.
And now, Dylan, I know that you're too young to uh have lived through the Ken O'Brien years, but as your honorary father today on Father's Day, let me tell you, son, I've never seen a Jets quarterback throw the ball like Kenny O. I didn't I wasn't alive for Namath, so I take it from the elders who who tell me no one threw the ball like him. I'm going to tell you, I've never seen anyone throw the ball like Kenny O. Vinnie, later in his career, Vinnie had a great arm, but to me, Kenny O is as good as it gets in terms of Jets quarterback quarterback play and getting the ball downfield. And I'm very, very excited for this week.
I'm very excited to have him on the show on Sunday, and I hope everyone else enjoys it as much as they or if not more than they've enjoyed the Wesley Walker interview and the Kyle Orton interview.
So, a lot of Ken O'Brien content this week, and of course, we'll be discussing the present Jets, and we'll be discussing everything leading up to training camp. So, >> Hell yeah.
>> big week here on the program. Now, folks, don't forget Sunday night shine time in prime time with DT.
The dynamic duo is back, of course.
Shout out to Addy for making that logo for us.
Hell yeah.
Now, raffle entries are doubled. We will have a jersey giveaway at the end of the night. If the chat goes crazy, we'll add. You know what we do. You guys lead the show. You lead the way. You tell me what we do. If you say, "Hey, Nick, one prize isn't enough. We want more."
We make that happen. It's your show. I just facilitate it. That's it. I'm just here to make the people in the chat happy. So, Dylan, let's get into this cuz I know you're pressed for time. So, here's what we decided to do tonight, ladies and gentlemen. We decided to talk about Cisco Lopez.
Cisco Lopez [laughter] is the producer of The Nick Shine Show and Cisco Lopez has already gifted 10 channel memberships, good enough for 20 raffle entries tonight. Cisco bomb indeed. Now, before I even read the names, I'm getting better at this, Cisco. I'm getting better at this. You know what we're playing.
>> Here we go, baby.
J E T S Jets JETS JETS LET'S GO, BABY.

And uh I love you, homeboy. Yeah, that's my buddy. That's my producer. That's That's my pal.
I love you, Cisco, very much and we will drop another Tommy chant for you in a little bit since you gifted 10.
Now, here's what we got.
>> [snorts] >> We decided to flip the script tonight.
Dylan and I are going to discuss five training camp storylines for the Jets. Now, that could be a player to watch, it could be a positional battle, it could be a coaching thing, it could be whatever. Now, here's the script flip.
Whoever can pick out the script flip first and tell me how the script got flipped, you will get a raffle entry tonight.
Now, pay attention. For those of you that know me very well, and those of you that know Dylan very well, it might be very easy to pick up on this. So, Dylan, I will let you go first since you are a guest. There's many storylines around this team. What jumps out to DT?
>> Yeah, so number five on my list is the Frank Reich and Seth Ryan offensive structure. Now, there's a lot to like about what we've heard from Frank Reich, from Seth Ryan. I loved uh Seth's emotion when he did have that media availability talking about, you know, he had the funny moment where he was like, "I I joked with my dad and he wanted me to be better than him, so I picked offense." Then you got the emotional side of him like really happy to be with the Jets. And then you hear what the players are saying about the player empowerment offense with Frank Reich, what they're saying about Seth Ryan and the potential that he has as an up-and-coming coach. I'm really excited to see just how they plan out this offense because for the first time in a while they have enough skill position players that they can have a confident offense, right? You have your two plus tight ends, your three uh running backs, you have multiple wide receivers. Now, I think you can say comfortably three, maybe four that can play on a week in and week out basis. So, it really comes down to Frank Reich and Seth Ryan putting their heads together and coming up with an innovative and also functioning offense for the pieces that they have. So, I'm really intrigued. I think so far it's been positive reviews and the offense has certainly won enough of the practices against their defense where last year that just wasn't the case. The defense seemed to be winning every single week. So, hopefully the Reich and Ryan offensive structure can look a little bit better for our guys and obviously it's all, you know, the nucleus is Geno Smith, but I'm really focusing on Ryan and Reich specifically because I was pretty down on the the Frank Reich hire. I remember being immobile with with Jake and and a couple other guys talking about how I didn't really like the Frank Reich interview process and everything like that, but I've come around on it and I think that's probably part of the fan in me when you have nothing but optimism in in the summer months, but I'm actually intrigued the way that he talks about his players, the way the players talk about him. I think this could be a really fun offense.
>> Right. And forgive me for not doing it myself earlier. Happy Father's Day to all the Shiner dads out there, all the Jets fans. God bless you guys. Keep doing great work and the team hasn't won, so we need you out there to keep making more babies so we have more Jets fans going forward. So, at the end of the show or maybe during the show. There's Netflix and chill, you can have NSDT and chill. So, just make more babies. We got to keep this fan base growing because we can't do it on the field. We have to do it Yeah. Through what? So, hope everyone had a great day and thank you for ending your Father's Day by hanging out here with us tonight. Now, I will admit I was very big on the potential of an Engstrand and Turner offense last year.
>> Mhm.
>> Obviously the quarterback play was so horrendous, we never got to really see what it would be and it ended up with, you know, everyone getting fired.
Everyone getting fired basically.
Coaches, players, and you know, everything. So, when I look at Reich with Ryan getting added to the staff. Now, I don't want to put pressure on Ryan to be his dad or his grandfather. It's unrealistic, right? But, I like what I'm hearing about the kid. I like that he is using motion. He's going to be innovative. I think a lot of us, you, Robbie Sabo, Joe Blewett, all the guys who break down film have said, "You got to use motion. You got to get Garrett Wilson free releases off the line. You got to use him the way they used Tyreek Hill. Get the ball in his hands. You can free him up and, you know, in in these motions."
And it's not just Garrett. It's many guys. We can use this to to open up a lot of things. It helps the quarterback you read the defense better. You get the man or zone designation when it's in motion. Are they just shifting and sliding? Is someone going with him? So, a veteran like Geno, I'm looking forward to see what this offense could be. And it starts right there, right? The passing attack is Ryan and Reich together. So, it's it's a good call on your part picking that one.
Uh I'm going to pick one.
The O-line chemistry and improvement.
Now, you know, I've talked about this at great length. You know how much I love the trenches on both sides of the ball.
I love, absolutely love Titman staying at right guard, getting the off-season to prep for that, him and Membu staying together, that continuity.
I know people are very down on Myers, but I love that Myers, Titman, Membu all together. Parham's a veteran. He can come in. He can adapt quickly to everything with um with Myers and with Olu next to him, you know, he can be that He's the elder statesman of a very young offensive line. So, when I'm looking at this offensive line, we gave Justin Fields a lot of time to throw last year.
He did it.
We give Geno that same time, we're going to see a lot of explosive plays. We're going to see a lot of airing it out. We're going to see only seven guys in the box, and then we can open up the run game, and we can get things going, and then you get the play action, and then you can play off of it, and you can have a complimentary offense within itself, because of the fact you're getting the ball out, and you're getting the ball downfield. Now, you can't have the safety's creeping up into the box. You can't have all the things that have deterred us in the past with quarterbacks holding the ball. We had the offensive line not blocking for many years. Quarterback was a sitting duck.
We don't have that now. We have protection. We have the line.
And in theory, even though it's not a great massive upgrade from Simpson to Parham, it's enough where the other four are still there. It's year two in this in this uh regime.
They should all get better. Metchie Nembot year two, and people are talking, myself included, talking about potential Pro Bowl and that or All-Pro. Now that Penne Sewell and Worfs have moved over to the left, the right tackle, number one right tackle in football, is up for grabs. Hey, Metchie, go grab it.
Olu being maturing, filling out more, getting aggressive in the run game to complement his pass blocking ability is a huge plus. You have two Pro Bowl level tackles on this line, you can do great things. You can You can make up for Myers in the middle, cuz you know you don't have to double and help on the outside. You're going to leave these guys to block the best of the best, because they can do it.
So, this offensive line being the staple of this offense, I I get it. The quarterback gets all the pressure. The quarterback gets all the questions.
But the offensive line will drive this team. The offensive line dancing, celebrating, Tippmann and McGovern getting out in space and taking the heads off of linebackers and safeties. Uh Sign me up for that, DT. So, give me your thoughts real quick and then go on to your next one.
>> Yeah, 100% [snorts] I'm with you. I love that they have continuity except for Parham, right?
They swapped out Simpson for Parham, but they still have Steve Heiden, the offensive line coach. Again, another coach that we were pretty questionable about last year when he was brought in, but he seemed to live up to the billing as an offensive line coach. I believe he was only ever an assistant offensive line coach prior and he worked with tight ends a little bit. So, it was a bit of a question mark with him. It seems like everything hit the ground running. They had really good uh like health luck, we'll call it, because you have to get lucky to stay healthy for an entire season, but Yeah, so >> had bad luck many years, so we'll take it.
And that's the Jets luck though, DT. We had every guy start and we only won three games. We're like, "If we had an offensive line, we're going TO WIN SO MUCH." NAH, THE JETS STILL FIND A WAY NOT TO.
>> YEAH, I I actually remember and shout out to Buffalo Jet fan. He did a video saying if you have like a top 12 offensive line unit or a fringe top 12 offensive line unit, it's like almost impossible to not be like a 500 football team, but clearly the Jets said, "Hold my beer." And they had other plans, but the continuity is huge. The age thing is huge as well. Parham and Myers, I believe, are the oldest at 26, maybe turned 27 during the year. So, those guys being your oldest members of the offensive line, it gives you hope that 4 years, 5 years down the road, you could still have majority of these pieces still in place. Sure, maybe you want to, you know, swap out Josh Myers for somebody down the road, whether it's a second, third, or fourth round pick in an upcoming draft. But, if Myers is your weak point, I really think you have a good offensive line. So, I'm I'm excited. I like that we kind of covered all the bases of offense on that one. I hit hit Frank Reich in the skill position and the the play calling and then you hit the offensive line because we can actually be excited about the offense for once.
It's like so rare and we talked ourselves into the Justin Fields experiment and well, at worst, he's just going to run around the yard and make it look cool. And then he stopped doing that, too. But, the offensive line, like you said, 3.5, 3.8, 4.2 seconds to time to throw. You can only do that if your offensive line holds up. So, if they give Geno any part of that or the same, if not a little bit better, the sky's the limit and I and I agree with you.
Everything goes through the trenches and that seems to be their philosophical mindset with how they build this roster.
>> Yeah, they wanted to be nasty and it's starting to come that way. And next year, don't give up a two. I'm very happy this morning to hear the report that the Jets should not be interested in Saquon Barkley. You know how vocal I've been about that for multiple reasons.
>> Yep.
>> Now, you get these four picks next year and the beauty of the Colts being awful is you take their pick, you get the quarterback. And then you go get a corner. You go get a middle linebacker who can just be the key to your defense for many years to come. And then in the second round, you go get a a center and you solidify that offensive line. And you let this whole group, you let your quarterback and your center come in together and be together for a decade like Manning and Jeff Saturday were. You know, you just get that chemistry with the the lines and the calls and the protections and and and which way you're going to flow.
You get them on the same page, you let them grow and develop together, and you take this offense to great heights.
Speaking of great heights, Phil Hanan gifted another membership. Thank you, Phil. Appreciate you. His membership went to Macho Talk Sports. Macho, DM me back. I know we've been playing a little um back and forth. Uh let's coordinate. Macho wants me to come on his show. I think this Saturday night might work. Uh so, hit me up. So, all right. You're next, Point DT.
>> Yes, sir. All right. Flipping over the guys that are going to be covering those skill position players. I'm actually really excited about the cornerback room as a whole. Now, last year, AG came in and he added Brandin Echols, they drafted AZ Thomas, they obviously ended up trading away Sauce Gardner, they traded for Jarvis Brownlee. Then this year, they go out, they get D'Angelo Pounds, they bring in Naquan Wright in free agency. The only holdover, shoutout to Nate, by the way, is Quinton Dunbar in the cornerback room. Everybody else is an AG addition. So, what that says to me is he's envisioning that position the way he wants it. He went and got the guys. Now, let's go see them perform.
So, the cornerback room as a whole, but four specific standouts during the OTA and mini camp portions. Brandin Echols, I just feel like we hated the contract and we never gave him a ton of a chance to prove his worth. And he was quietly the most consistent cornerback in that entire room last year when everything was going haywire. Now, obviously there was bad moments, but there were some really good moments for Echols as well.
Naquan Wright, who I mentioned, he's already intercepted a few, I believe two passes, gotten his hand and broken up a couple more passes, so he's going to positively help the turnover regression. D'Angelo Pounds had a nice tip drill interception.
I think the sky's the limit for him, whether he starts in the slot or he is like the number like the the best number three corner in the NFL behind Echols and AZ. However they want to play that out, Pounds when he gets on the field is going to be special. And then a bit of a dark horse at cornerback, and maybe he doesn't make the Jets roster, but he's somebody that could prove himself worthy enough to be traded for a day three pick, and that's Trey Brown. A lot of positive reports coming out about Trey Brown, a one-handed interception, another pass breakup against a receiver where he was, you know, giving up a ton of size to that receiver. So, I want to say it was probably Tim Patrick or A.J.
Minter that he was going up against, but he's making plays. So, like I said, if it doesn't happen for the Jets, maybe they flip him at cut down day and a team gives him a five for Trey Brown who was picked up midseason last year and laughed at by people like me who cover the game and were like, "Who the hell is number 30 out there?" I don't I've never heard of this guy before. Oh, we signed him on Tuesday. That's Trey Brown. You know, like that's who he was last year, but he's making a name. I think the cornerback room is finally how AG wants it and I think that they need to perform. If this group specifically underperforms, that's a direct reflection on AG. It's also a a direct reflection on uh Chris Harris, the guy who took over for DC when Wilks was fired, didn't do a great job, but retained his job as one of the assistant coaches. I do think that the onus is on him and AG if the the cornerback room doesn't look right, that's going to be a major problem. But, I am very excited for these guys and like I said, offense wins some, defense wins some in practice and this is the catalyst for it is the the physicality, the length, and the speed that they have on the boundary.
>> Yeah, I I think this room is one of the most important rooms to keep an eye on for all the reasons that you said.
Uh you know, there's questions about AZ Thomas. Can he be the guy outside?
Uh Pounds, are you playing him nickel, you're playing him outside? And don't forget about Brownlee. Brownlee had a huge role the second he got here last year before the injury. He was basically calling the defense like week one. Uh so, you you mentioned right who's who was a turnover machine last year. He had five picks. I think we would love to see five interceptions as a team and one guy got them individually. So, there's not big time top of the league level talent here. But, if you have the guys that fit your scheme, and you have the guys that you can coach up, and you can develop, and then can buy into what you want to do, there's reason to believe in them. So, it's not a top 20 group going into the season, but when you combine that with other elements of the defense, which we'll get into, I'm sure, that's where you can start to have fun, right? If you're getting to the quarterback quickly, you can take some chances on the back end and get those interceptions, cuz you know your pass rush is going to get home. When the quarterback has 4 seconds to throw, nobody's covering for that. I don't care how good you are. You're not covering for that long with the way the rules are structured in the NFL.
>> And And I'm glad you mentioned Brownlee, because him and AZ have probably been like the {quote} "quietest" throughout this portion, and that's not a a bad or good thing necessarily, cuz we don't know who the exact starters are going to be. We pretty much know Brandon Stephens, but it could be NaShawn Wright over AZ Thomas. It could be DeAngelo Pons over Jarvis Brownlee. So, all those guys have a chance to make a name for themselves on this roster, and I think that that's going to breed like the best competition in that room, and you're going to get the best version of those players come July.
>> Yeah. So, all right.
My second thing to keep an eye on here, and you could say trio, but I'm going with tandem.
The tight end room.
I love this tight end tandem.
>> Mhm.
>> Taylor had great flashes last year. 44 catches, missed a couple games at the end, some of the worst quarterback play the NFL has ever seen, through multiple quarterbacks.
If he plays a full season, even with Brady Cook, he's going to have over 50 receptions.
If you would have had a 22nd ranked quarterback in the NFL, he would have pushed 60.
He did really well as a rookie.
And now you add Conklin, which you know, I loved. I said he will be the best weapon in the passing game in the entire NFL draft. What he brings, his skill set, how you have to account for him, the way these two will complement one another, their utilization, how they're getting lined up, how you are you are you good stacking them on the outside and saying, "Hey, safety corner, go try to cover these guys." How are we going to put the pressure on the defense to stop them? I I think that this could be a really, really elite room in the very near future. I think that there will be a lot of national coverage in the next two, three, four years about how great the New York Jets tight end tandem is and how they're unstoppable when you get in the red zone. How do you cover them?
It's impossible to cover them.
And then they can open up everybody else. #dianarussini quotes. What they can do together and what they can do individually, and their YAC, their catch, their run. They're not these old methodical tight ends who just catch the ball and go down because the guy's on them. They're going to be able to run away from defenders. We're going to be seeing these monsters getting the ball, turning it up, getting extra yards after the catch, and everything to do with the tight end room, how are you aligning them, how are you utilizing them, what's the rotation, do you flex in, do you bring two tight end in set, and then flex out and go four wide cuz you can line them up outside.
The chess match with the tight end is going to be fun to watch. So you have the offensive line, they can block. Concede is willing to block. Taylor, not the greatest but will throw his helmet in there.
I think when you look at all of these elements of the tight end room, we don't have to worry about this room for a very very long time and I'm excited about that.
>> Yeah, I I agree with that. Last year I did a summer ranking series and I always start by ranking the Jets internally first and then I open it up to the AFC East and see how we stack up position by position. Last year I had the tight ends as the worst ranked room on the team because they were headed by a rookie second rounder who is still only 20 years old. Jeremy Ruckert had like 240 something career yards through three seasons. So like there was not a ton to be optimistic about and they over performed. They weren't the worst group by far. The quarterback room was the worst group by far on the team.
But now you add Concede this year, Mason Taylor coming back from the injury. I know it was I think it was a neck injury that that he sustained at the end of the year. I do I really agree with you about Mason Taylor that he would have had such a better season if you just had a competent NFL quarterback. It doesn't have to be a league average. It could have been the 25th, 22nd like you said.
He would have had a damn good year because five to seven yards, that little sit route over the ball. Like when they run a mesh concept and you have the two shallow crossers and then the guy who sits over the middle of the ball. Mason Taylor was like perfect at that. Third and sixth, third and eighth. He just got to the sticks, turned around, used his big body, boxed out the defender, caught the ball, strong hands at the catch point. I think it's so underrated. Yeah, he might have only had a game with like three, four catches two times in the entire season. But if you go back and look at the quality of those three to four catches, they're away from the body, hands only, you know, shielding off the defender like >> He found catch that Breece threw and he just bare pawed that out of midair. Pull that down like That's >> I was just That's a man's catch right there. That's not a body catch. That's a This is my ball.
>> That's a receiver catch.
>> Yeah, and and the I was just literally going to transition to that. The fact that his only touchdown was thrown by a running back. Like come on now. Like we we need more information >> he shouldn't have thrown cuz he like triple pumped.
>> [laughter] >> I was so nervous and obviously you were in you were in in in attendance, so you were just probably like, "No, no, no, yes, yes. Oh my god." Yeah, like it's one of those type of plays and and Breece Breece is known for those for sure. But I do think we need a little bit of justice for Mason Taylor. I had him as one of my most underrated players going into this year and I think there's mixed opinions. Some people think he's going to be tight end one. I think he's going to be tight end two. So, I'm operating under that mindset. I do think C.J. Uzomah is special. When you can have 12 personnel, by definition, two tight ends on the field, but you can run concepts that look like 11 personnel and really confuse the defense. Are they putting a safety on Uzomah? Are they putting that linebacker type on Uzomah?
Are they putting a cornerback on Uzomah?
Either way, you probably have a mismatch whether he uses his speed to beat a linebacker or his strength to beat a corner or safety type. So, I really like this tight end room and I agree they're certainly not going to be the the worst room going into the year this year for my rankings.
>> Yeah, and neither one of us even mentioned Ruckert. His Him and Beck, right? You got to It's not really a fullback league anymore, but when you have Beck and Ruckert, they're going to be utilized as fullbacks. They're going to be able to flex out. You're going to be three tight end sets. You might have a package where it's Breece Hall or Braelon Allen with Beck, Ruckert, Cisc- uh Siddiq Sisco and uh and Mason Taylor, you can go put out four heavy blockers and Braelon Allen. All right, go How you going to stop that? We're going to run the ball down your damn throat.
So, there's so many layers to what they can do to attack the defense and how with this offensive line combined with the tight ends, we should be able to run the ball really damn well. Uh shout-out to Derek, the Kansas Jet fan. Derek, pleasure hanging out with you on the Addy Show earlier talking. Says, "Hey Nick, hey DT. I hope everyone is having a wonderful day. Keep up the great work, guys. I love Jets content on Sunday. J E T You know I I'm I'm not going to do it.
I owe Cisco one."
>> Here we go, baby.
J E T S Jets JETS JETS JETS GO, BABY.
>> THANK YOU, DEREK. YOU'RE IN THE RAFFLE for two more entries tonight. Good luck to you, my friend.
And there's a comment I saw before that I have to put up. Daniel Meehan, our resident Dolphins fan, says, "Happy Father's Day, Nick. I love you, Nick.
You could sell ice to an Eskimo."
>> Love it.
>> Listen, man. I want to believe.
I want to believe. I can look at things and find a positive in it. It's my mindset in life. Like I I don't look for the negatives. I don't look for it for the bad. I look for How can this work out? How can we make this work out? How can this come to fruition?
Granted, there's a lot of elements, coaching, quarterback play, all these things, but when you look at the individual talent of Mason Taylor who was a second-round pick and Siddiq that everyone praised, every If Siddiq went to the Ravens, Siddiq would be the biggest talk in the NFL right now, but he's on the Jets. So, nobody's going to really hype him up because it's the Jets. Well, I'm going to hype him up and I'm going to hype up the combination because I think that the mismatch and their skill sets are going to be fun for us to watch. And this is a team and a fan base that hasn't really had weapons to enjoy.
And I think when you look up and down the Jets roster, wide receivers, tight ends, running backs, this is the best position group and weapon group we've had in a very, very long time.
But, we'll get more into that as we go.
But, Daniel, I appreciate you being here. Again, happy Father's Day to everybody. Thank you for spending your night here with us. Hit the like button.
Subscribe if you haven't. Sunday night shine time and prime time raffle entries are doubled. Make sure you get them in.
We will be giving away a jersey at the end of tonight. And your raffle entries carry over for next Sunday for the Ken O'Brien massive giveaway, mini helmet and autograph jersey. All right.
You're up. What's your third storyline?
To recap so far, so for those of you playing at home, whoever can tell me how we flip the script, the first one, you win a raffle entry.
Dylan had Frank Reich and Seth Ryan offensive structure. Then he picked the cornerbacks.
I spoke about the offensive line chemistry and the tight end tandem.
Dylan, what do you got next?
>> Yeah. First off, shout out to Daniel.
Being a Dolphins fan and consuming a ton of Jets content, I always see him in my comments. He is a a loyal listener to Jets content. So, shout out to Daniel.
>> And he's a great dude. He's a great dude. We've emailed back and forth um in the past and I I have nothing but respect for Daniel. He popped in one time and I said a Dolphin fan and one of our regulars gave him some [ __ ] And I was like, "Oh, oh, oh, oh." Daniel's never trolled. He's never degraded anybody. He's never He's never been what we get from other fan bases. Daniel gets his Like Like I gave the blessing. Like Daniel, nobody give Daniel [ __ ] You'll be gone.
>> Yeah. Yeah, exactly. He He does it the right way, for sure.
Uh my number three, all right, yeah, number three, Geno Smith and AD Mitchell specifically.
This is This is going to be the storyline of the year, I think, Nick.
And I I think I'm not doing it enough justice putting it at three, but I'm just really hyped about my other two things, of course. But >> Okay.
>> Geno and AD, I think is the X-factor of this entire offense. Like if AD hits, this offense is like scary special. With what we think or know Garrett can do, what we think and know Breece can do, what we talked about with the tight ends, if AD hits, that is going to be scary hours for opposing defenses. Now, of course, if AD does, it's very scary for us. Like who's the guy after Garrett that's stepping up? Can it be Sedeeq, who's a rookie? Cooper, who's a rookie?
They have a fail-safe in place if it doesn't work for AD, but I think the combination of Geno to AD is going to be like the unlocked version of this offense. There was a clip that came out a couple weeks ago during like phase two, and Geno threw a seed down the field to AD Mitchell. He brought it in and he finishes out his run, and he starts smiling at the back end of the run. And I quote-tweeted it on Twitter and I said, "The reason AD is smiling is because these passes are actually going to happen on Sundays." Like Tuesday through Friday, Justin Fields was great at throwing the ball against air to AD Mitchell, but then on Sunday, the the ball just disappeared and he never got any production.
>> but he couldn't read and and recognize what to do. So, [clears throat] when there's no defense, it was easy. But he Geno will read, recognize, and release.
He'll have all three.
>> 100%. And he also has a little bit of that fearless nature, where he will throw it up to AD if he's one-on-one down the field and that corner has given up like 4 in to AD Mitchell. There's a good chance that he's just going to throw it up there to to AD and tell him to go get it. And then you see the clip.
I know we were talking about it a little bit in DMs, but that clip of that backline touchdown to AD over Demario's head, like that is all instinct on Gino knowing where his guy's going to be on that route, putting it in a spot where only AD could get it and Demario couldn't who played like damn near perfect coverage on the route based on the video and from what the beat writers said when they were in attendance. So, I do think this is going to be like the unlocking, like the that next tier of a Jets offense which we're already very excited about, but AD in what was considered a throwing in the Sauce Gardner trade. I don't know if the the Jets considered it as much of a throwing as like Jets fans did.
Yeah, because we already got the two first round picks. So, it didn't matter what AD did.
>> We've missed on second round wide receivers so many times. So, if we have to acquire one that you took in order to make it work here, whatever it takes, Muji. If you know we can't draft second round wide receivers, you trade up into round one for Cooper instead of waiting.
Nice. And then you have AD thrown in, the second rounder. Nice. You didn't draft him in the second round, so you don't have that bugaboo on top of it.
>> Yep.
>> So, I I I like the way it's coming together.
I like we'll get more into the wide receiving core as a whole, I'm sure.
But, yeah, AD, his skillset and how it complements everyone else. Again, it's complementary football. It's how does my skillset help you do your skillset? How does my talents help you at the best with your talents? It happens at tight end. It'll happen in the wide receiver room. And it it's going to be a lot of fun for us to watch an offense where it's just not, "Oh man, they're doubling Garrett. Nobody else can get open. Uh-uh. And it's going to be like that, bro.
>> No. And And the one thing I like that AG talked about in his press conference was What What's going to happen when Garrett and AD are lined up on the same side of the formation? Because that would assume to me, at least through context clues, that Garrett is in the slot. Which means two-way goes against uh slot corner instead of a boundary corner. So, I am all for AD and Garrett helping unlock each other in this offense.
>> Yeah. And we didn't even mention Cooper.
And then you add Taylor and Sedeeq. And then when you have all these guys the defense has to worry about Oh, it's third and five. Swing pass to Breece cuz you're worried about everyone getting down field. He makes the first guy miss and gets 18 yards and takes it into the end zone for it. So, yes, Brian. Uh I hope you're not driving when you hear this. But yes, we are talking about weapons on an offense and a competent offense in 2026. Uh speaking about being competent, nobody is more competent than the big fella. The big fella with a $20 super chat says, "Happy Father's Day to all the dads.
We are going to be in the hunt this year. Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. DT, where you been, bro? Love you all. We are shocking the AFC this year."
>> [clears throat] >> Excuse me. I know the big fella's a gentleman. He's a classy guy. He said F Boston, but I'm going to read it the way it should BE READ. [ __ ] BOSTON. ALL THINGS BOSTON.
EVERYTHING. Go Pack E. Top of the box.
You don't have to walk far. Shut up.
Your accent's stupid. Your town sucks.
Sorry.
>> I'll I'll I'll answer the question that >> I'm not I blocked out for a second. I blocked out.
>> I I love it. It's like Will Ferrell in Old School.
>> What happened? What happened?
>> [laughter] >> I'm back. I'm back.
>> I'm back.
>> Now, big fella brings it out of you.
That's great. Uh he says, "DT, where you been, bro?" Uh so, I told Nick a little bit offline. Um, I'm not quite sure what's going on with my regular job. So, in the meantime, I am taking an online certification class to become a home inspector. So, that's 120 hours of online courses. So, that's been the bulk of my time. Coming coming home from work, showering, quick eat, sitting in the in the the classroom, I'll call it, for 3 hours the last couple nights. So, I still have to put out my OTA video. I have to edit it down and stuff, but I'm still here, big fella. I appreciate you.
>> Well, I'm used to you putting out your OB video, your out-of-bounds shots on the golf course.
>> [laughter] >> Yo, you know, somebody commented it was like, "How many trees need to be hurt in the making of these videos?" I was like, "Just these two. Just these two, man."
Like, come on.
>> [laughter] >> Awesome.
Awesome.
All right. So, you've covered your three. I'm up next.
The running back trio.
With the offensive line, with the weapons of wide receiver, with the double tight end packages that we're going to be putting out there, this running back group, we could have the best rushing attack we've had in quite some time.
If you don't respect the passing attack, Geno will throw the ball down field just to keep you honest. Even if he overthrows someone just to get the ball down field to back your safeties off to open up the run game.
>> Yep.
>> It's a decision that helps you get things going. So, you're not going to stuff the box against us, #dianerussini quotes. You're not going to have the guys up in the line. If you go All right, we'll go one-on-one. We'll throw a fade to Garrett. Oh, we'll do play action. We'll throw it to AD Mitchell down field. Oh, we're going to get your linebackers biting. We're going to hit the seam with Sedrick or Taylor right up the middle over the linebackers before the safeties. Plus, you have to worry about the speed on the outside. Your safeties can't pinch. So, there's so many layers to the passing attack that the running game.
The running game will be opened up. The running game Breece Hall we we thought we were going to see this with Aaron Rodgers and we didn't cuz Aaron Rodgers was throwing so many passes close to the line of scrimmage and never backed the defense off.
>> Yep.
>> This is going to be different. Geno will throw it down field. If you don't respect it, he's going to throw it more down field.
>> Yep.
>> And now it opens up the running game.
Now when you have the double tight sets and if they decide we're going to go small cuz we think they're going to throw it, we can run it down your throat. This is where Breece Hall can be Breece Hall. We've seen him in the past have some highlight plays where he hits the hole quick, outruns the linebacker, turns it up, takes it to distance once he gets it into fifth gear.
Braelon Allen You want to spread out, you want to bring in Braelon Allen, two tight ends, AVT and Mims, and Garrett. You want to flex out into four wide and now run it down their throat behind Tippmann and Mims? You want >> Yep.
>> You're going to see that. Last year, you know this, we did many shows, we did the Green Bay preseason game together.
I spoke about Braelon Allen running behind AVT and Mims was going to be like the Jordan fadeaway. You couldn't stop it. We never really got to see that. I think this year with Tippmann going into year two at right guard and Mims evolving into one of the best, if not the best right tackle in football, which is not hype, he will be in that discussion. You don't pick a right tackle seventh overall and he's not in that discussion.
You're going to run behind him with Braelon. And it's going to be so much fun to watch. So, and then I didn't even mention Isaiah Davis who showed breakaway speed. I think he had our longest run last year for running back, the 50-yard run in in Cincinnati which was coming right down towards us where our seats were.
You can use him to spell Breece. If you want to have that drive, you know, they always give the the third guy that drive. All right, we're going to give you that drive, we'll use you in the passing attack. We'll hit you with a screen. We'll hit you with an off-tackle run. We'll do a counter. We'll throw a swing pass to you. A little change-of-pace back. I think for a third running back, Isaiah Davis is nice. I don't expect great things from him, but I think he's nice and he's capable of going in when we're having time of possession control and you you're wearing out Breece and you're wearing out Braelon.
You can go throw Isaiah Davis in and be okay.
So, I'm looking forward to the offensive line, which I covered, the tight ends, which I've covered, and now the running back tandem. So, the running back trio with the tight end tandem and the offensive line. So, if you haven't picked up on the flip the script yet, I don't know what you're doing.
>> [laughter] >> Yeah, no. I So, the one positive thing I like about the running back room as it relates to last year, because it is a lot of the same, you know, it's obviously the same three guys. I think this year as opposed to last year, they're going to pass to set up the run.
Where last year all they did was come out first and 10, under center, 12 personnel, spam run, spam run. Now, all of a sudden you're on third and seven and you're forced to pass the ball. I think it's going to be opposite. They're going to pass to set up the run this year. The one negative from last year that I hope they change and I do think Isaiah Davis needs to have a role, but not that specific role that they gave him last year. Brother, I can't tell you how many two-minute drives Breece Hall was not on the field for.
Why is Breece Hall not on the field in a two-minute situation for Isaiah Davis?
Makes absolutely no sense at all. You're literally telling the defense, "We don't care to have our second best and at times first best playmaker on the field." After Garrett Wilson's injury, he was the only one we really had left and they would take him off the field in a two-minute situation for Isaiah Davis.
Now, Isaiah Davis deserves to run.
Absolutely. He's a great pass catcher.
He's a phenomenal pass protector. I think his his pass pro is so underrated from a running back position. And then yeah, bulked up Braelon Allen 250 like you're you're talking about a fullback or a tight end or somebody David Bailey's weight, but you know, toting the rock behind that offensive line that's going to be special. And obviously Breece Hall. I think he'll Yeah, 250 252 I think he might even be like absolutely absurd up from 238. And then obviously Breece Hall coming off the contract like you want to see him live up to it. He's paid as like the third or fourth highest a couple deals might happen knock him down to fifth maybe sixth.
He needs to be a top 10 back and I think this might be the year because we're going to pass to set up the run. If Geno Smith comes out in play action on first down and throws it way deep over everybody's head to AD Mitchell like you said, even if it's an overthrow gets them back on their heels. They're going two high shell. Best thing to do when the defense goes two high safeties, run the damn ball right at. So, I'm really excited about the running back group.
>> Yeah.
And it's just the culmination of the offense coming together, right? You started off with the scheme. I brought up the offensive line. Bring up the tight ends.
Bring up the running backs.
There's layers to it. There's every it's complimentary football within itself because you need a good line to throw the ball. You need a good line to run the ball. You need the tight ends to be weapons that consume the man. StreamYard is lagging.
That just popped up on its own.
All right. Shout out to AFG Adirondack Fly Guy gifted a membership that went to unknown.
It'll pop up shortly. It did that last week, too. There's a little bit of a delay and then it popped in in the chat, but AFG you were in the raffle for two tonight. Thank you for your gift, my friend. I appreciate you.
Uh sent him a Wayne Krebet autograph jersey not too long ago and uh another one added to the the roller decks of addresses that I have. So shout out to him and everyone here watching hit the like button. We got over 50 of you here watching. Glad to see everyone back.
It's getting hype time man. It's getting to the height. We're almost in July.
We're almost at the point where training camp and Jets football will be a daily thing and I can't wait for it.
Black Gypsy gifted a membership. His popped in right away and his went through and this is perfect coming from him that he gifted to Aaron Glenn is a terrorist. So >> Oh, no.
>> I mean it's it's his burner account, but you know what? Sometimes you got to share love. Self-love is is a good thing to have in this community. You know, it's a good thing to have in life. It's men's mental health awareness month. So you know, self-love is good. So Black Gypsy gifting to Aaron Glenn is a terrorist and I thank you for subscribing with both of your accounts which neither one you used to vote for Gary in the Azmaniak man.
>> [laughter] >> Thank you Black Gypsy. You're the man and I look forward to debating with you in a little bit when when you call me out for my takes.
>> That's fantastic.
>> And AFG, keeping an eye out for your membership to pop up. It will eventually.
>> Hell yeah.
>> All right. I'm up at number two. Two left for me. Two left for you.
I'm going back defensive side of the ball. I'm just picking an entire position group again, an entire room.
That defensive line, dude. I am so fired up for this defensive line.
I will I will go out on a limb and say that we have eight solid defensive linemen. And the last time I felt that way was like the JFM years of Robert Saleh where I felt like we had a strong four and then really good depth in behind it. Now, do I anticipate as much rotation as Robert Saleh did with his defensive line? Probably not. I expect difference in terms of variation, right?
Three-man front, four-man front, five down linemen or five-man front technically, three down, two standing up.
>> Yeah.
>> I I think you have the four interior guys, Phillips, Briggs, Onyemata, and Sweat.
Sweat is the X factor of that group.
Onyemata and Phillips are the control group, the veterans that have that consistent floor. And then Jovan Briggs is an ascending player. Like if him and Sweat hit their stride, that's absolutely phenomenal. Again, another throw Not a throw-in in the trade, but just a player swap trade that I think benefits both teams. Probably benefits the Jets a little bit more because they got the younger, more cost-efficient player in Sweat. And then on the outside, the the edge rushers, Enagbare, Osai, Bailey, and Will McDonald. Like that's a very good four edge rush group.
Like you can put any two of them out on the field and I feel confident that you're going to be able to stop the run or stop the pass alongside that interior, uh, you know, three or four, however they want to play it. So, the defensive line to me, uh, obviously Karl Dunbar, probably the most, um, consensus best hire in terms of the coaching staff this time around. I think everybody was on board with Karl Dunbar coming back from Pittsburgh. We saw what he did in Pittsburgh with those guys, Alex Highsmith, T.J. Watt, obviously, uh, one of the Herbigs. I think it was Nate Herbig. Um, he he had some good some good moments there in Pittsburgh as well as an off-ball linebacker. So, I'm very excited about the defensive line.
You touched on the offensive line, so I had to get the other side of the trenches because this team is being built from the trenches out and I think that's exactly how it should be done.
So, the defensive line, Karl Dunbar, fire me up.
>> All right. Now, >> How do I say this?
Listen, normally when we do I do these types of shows, I let my guest pick their five, right?
Dylan, you and I have done many shows together and I say you pick and I'll just take whatever you don't take.
However, there's no way in hell I'm going to do a show talking about the top five things to look forward to in training camp. And if you don't think I'm going to bring up the D-line, you're out of your goddamn mind. Now, >> Hell yeah.
>> everyone knows how much I wanted a monster in the middle. They trade and get Sweat.
They double down and they get Jackson in the draft, right? They bring in uh Osai. They bring in um uh Kingsley. They go and get Bailey. You know, they have Phillips. They have Briggs. They got Will McDonald. They got so many additions that fit. And there's guys on this team that they have a role to play, right? No one's going to try to do what they can't do. Phillips is not going to try to be an edge rusher. He's going to be a tough, stout son of a [ __ ] between the A and the B gap.
Briggs, he's your hybrid.
He can be that tough son of a [ __ ] but he can also be lightning quick and get around your guard and collapse the pocket and get in there.
Sweat, Jackson can be monsters in the middle.
Now, what does that mean?
It means that Will McDonald and Bailey should be open on the edge, one-on-one situations time and time again.
And I'm looking forward to that.
I've said over 20 sacks combined with Bailey and McDonald this year. I think they're that good. I think they're that fast. And I think that with everything we mentioned on the offense and for the ability for them to score points and keep you in games later, there's more pass rush opportunities. There's more oh [ __ ] this is turning point of the game opportunities. We haven't had those.
There's been games where we're over two possessions in cuz we're down 14-0 and we know there's not a god damn chance in the world we're going to come back and we're going to be watching the other team just do screen passes and dump offs for the whole second half where they're not going to leave their quarterback hanging out to dry because the game's over cuz they're up 27-6.
It's not going to be the case.
So, complimentary football within the defensive line, stopping the run, freeing guys up to rush the passer. And like you said, you can go with Osai, you can go with Kingsley, you can go with Will, you can go with Bailey. We have all these guys who can get there. And now they're not liabilities. Osai and Kingsley can be run. You want to go play a run defense? Okay, we're going to put out Phillips, Sweat, Kingsley, and Osai. And I didn't mention on Anae Matao yet. So, there's so many guys that can do many things to help everyone else. It's complimentary. My job helps you do your job. Same thing we were talking about with the weapons earlier, right? So, I love the additions that they've made.
And now you got to make it come together, right? If if you stop the run and you got third and eight with Bailey and Will, you're in trouble.
You're in trouble. There's no doubt. You do not want to be third and eight with Bailey and Will McDonald's speed coming off the god damn edge. I will say that now. I will say it during the game streams, which I hope you and I with the Jets season last more than three weeks and we could do more as as the season goes on.
But, I I I can't wait to watch this D-line.
There's been times where we know the Jets can rush the passer, right? We had I grew up watching the sack exchange early in life. Then we had Abraham and Ellis. Then we've had Huff and JFM and Quinnen.
And now I think you're entering an era of New York Jet football where the pass rushers are going to dominate again. And it's because of the guys in the middle who will help free them up. So, I'm [ __ ] excited. I don't care what if if haters want to hate on me and say that I'm hyping [ __ ] up, no. I'm getting ahead of a goddamn curve. Because when it's Baily and Will racing to the quarterback and to see who can get there first, I want each of you to say [ __ ] Nick was right.
Because I want it embedded in your head that I was here saying it before it happened. Because these two together are going to set the goddamn league on fire.
When we get leads, it's going to be fun to watch. You don't take a pass rusher DT at number two and he doesn't become one of the best pass rushers in the league. You took Will McDonald at 15. He's shown flashes.
When games are tight, he's been a game changer. Hey, newsflash, give me more tight games.
>> Yeah, yeah. Uh M123 made a comment saying that you have your guns out, so I had to I have to roll up my sleeves for for M123.
>> What the [ __ ] you live in South Carolina, you golf. [ __ ] get goddamn tan, bro. Your your arms are whiter than >> I got shirt. What do you WHAT YOU CAN SEE THE FARMER'S TAN, DUDE. You can see the difference.
>> You can see the Polish and you can SEE THE GERMAN.
WHY ARE WE DOING THIS HALF-ASSED [ __ ] WHAT ARE WE DOING? WE WANT TO turn this into a Hogan here?
>> Far- farmer's tans are the way, man. And I don't have muscles, >> [laughter] >> so I can't show off.
>> Shout out to M123. Gave me some [ __ ] earlier in Jay's show when I called in.
I saw him, He was giving me some [ __ ] in the chat.
>> He he he's a possum as as we call them around here. Two things about the defensive line that I think you you hit on perfectly.
Neutral or positive What did he say? I want Nick to be your Right. [laughter] Dunk hell yeah.
>> There we go. This is This is the joy of having a producer. He can just pop up [ __ ] whenever he wants.
>> That's that's great.
>> Shout out to Cisco.
That's me and Ric Flair. Ric Flair wish he looked that good in his goddamn prime. Ric Flair had fat man abs. You only saw them from certain angles and certain lighting. I don't have abs yet, but that that's on that's on the goal list.
>> No, I I I don't have I don't have abs either. We'll we'll we'll keep the shirt on for now.
>> Yeah, but it's a sleeveless, not a [ __ ] shirtless.
>> [laughter] >> Exactly.
>> my strengths. Well, I'm [ __ ] 47 years old. I know what and what does and what doesn't work.
>> The The comments are just absolutely killing me. All right, neutral >> Shout out to everybody being here. Make sure you hit the like button if you haven't already. AGAIN, >> ABSOLUTELY.
>> WOO! ALL RIGHT, WE'LL DO WE'LL DO A RIC FLAIR WOO. [ __ ] it.
>> Love it. All right, defensive line.
Neutral, positive game scripts. If we get neutral game script, >> One thing, we have breaking news.
I checked YouTube studio.
Uh AFG's membership went to six rings, but the big fella timed six rings out.
So, when you get timed out, your name don't pop up as receiving a gift. So, six rings got the gift from AFG, but big fella nuked them. So, that's why his name didn't pop up.
>> Big fella for the win, baby.
>> That's it.
>> All right, neutral game scripts. If they get a neutral game script, right, within three points, within seven points, a one score ball game, this defensive line can be fun and special at times. If they get positive game scripts where the Jets are winning by 10, winning by 13, 14 points, and it's the opposite effect, right?
When we knew we were down 14-nothing, we had nothing going for us offensively, the defense knew they were just going to get winded, gassed for 14 plays on each drive.
If we flip that script, this defensive line can be damn near elite. And I know that's that's big, you know, praise for what it is and what it was last year.
There is so much potential on this defensive line that only three of them have to really hit, and all of a sudden this is a damn good unit. So, positive or neutral game scripts will certainly go a long way.
And then, you mentioned it, freeing up players to get one-on-ones. The offensive line's job is to create as many double-team blocks as possible.
That does not always work because there's five offensive linemen and usually four down defensive linemen. So, the math doesn't math, right? As Bill says in the chat, the math ain't mathing.
You can create your own one-on-ones on the defensive side of the ball and free up Will McDonald, David Bailey, Tavian Robinson, Sweat. If two people are, you know, got hands on Tavian Robinson, Sweat, that means that you only have the potential for one other double team, and then you have a one-on-one situation and somebody's coming free. Like, we have the numbers in place on defense to actually make it work for us. So, I'm super hyped up. I'm I'm glad that we doubled down on defensive line, you specifically with the edge rushers, because this defense could have, I don't think it will, but it could have two double-digit sack players if things go well. And that's not going to say it will happen, but it could happen.
Listen, and when you're in closer games, you have more opportunities.
There's going to be opportunities, and I think that the D-line as a whole will complement one another and will be able to collapse the pocket and will be able to get past offensive tackles. Who are you going to double?
>> Mhm.
>> Who are you going to >> I mean, even if you wanted to double Jo Won Briggs, like he's going to beat your one-on-one or he or one-on-one with Jo Won Briggs, he's going to beat your one-on-one block unless it's like some elite guard or center, right? Like there's not a guy on the defensive line that I'm like, "Shit, if if he has to go one-on-one, I don't feel good about him winning his matchup." Those eight players I talked about, you talked about the other four as well. Those guys are definitely going to win their matchups more often than not. And we don't always play like our schedule doesn't have the greatest offensive line matchups, right?
We played the Patriots twice. We saw what happened with Will Campbell in the playoffs. We open with the the Tennessee Titans. Ja'Coby Latham has not hit his stride as an offensive tackle yet. Like there's going to be matchups we can certainly take advantage and win strictly through our defensive line play.
>> Yeah, the the NFL, and I'm not saying anything you guys don't know, you're the smartest fan base in all of sports.
Individual matchups can decide a game in the NFL. If you got a cornerback who can't cover a wide receiver, you [ __ ] throw it all day at that guy. If you can't stop the run, you run it down their throat the whole time. If you can't block someone, you keep trying to free that up one-on-one. You keep you stunt, you do whatever it takes to free up a Bailey or Will or if it's Briggs, you do whatever you can to put the favorable matchup in your corner.
So, >> Do it till they stop it. Do it till they stop it and then have a counter after it.
>> Exactly. You Like I said, you keep putting layers to it. If you're running the ball stretch, you're running the ball stretch, you're running the ball stretch, then bang, you hit them with a counter and you come back and now you gash them up the middle because they're over playing to stop the stretch run that's been working. So, uh All right.
I'm up.
>> Yep.
No, I'm up. I'm up. I'm up. You just did defense edge rushers.
>> Yep, I got one left and you got one left. Okay.
>> Yep.
>> Uh all right, my number one I'm going to let you go. I know what you're going to say here.
>> Mhm.
>> Pay break. I drink a gallon of water have a cigar outside in the heat. Ladies and gentlemen, enjoy the DT experience #dianarussiniaclosure.
>> [laughter] >> Hell yeah, and I get the solo box. So now the the guns look a little bit bigger. Uh it's like that little that little warning on your side mirrors that's like objects in your mirror are larger than they appear. That's that's the guns right here. All right, my number one most excited for storyline talking point player it's got to be Demario Davis. Double D back for his third stint with the team.
I am so fired up for 56 to be back. All the the good vibes that he brought in his last two times here. The fact that he was willing to come back to the Jets a third time and give them another opportunity. I'm I'm going to go out on a limb and say that Demario Davis had other options in free agency. Maybe the Jets outbid all those guys and it was money and uh you know, location specific on his decision making process, but I don't think Demario Davis was only wanted by the Jets.
Now, of course, the the caveat is what happens if he gets hurt.
But while he's healthy, he is going to be the reason that this defense sinks or swims in my opinion. Right in the center of that defense, he's going to get all of the other 10 guys lined up around him. He's going to know all the responsibilities, whether it's Jamien Sherwood next to him, whether it's the Onyemata Phillips in the middle right in front of him, and and he has chemistry with David Onyemata from their time with the New Orleans Saints, where they were a top-five unit in just about every rushing category in those four years together.
So, he's going to get everybody lined up. He's going to get the safeties lined up. He's going to get the corners lined up.
I am so fired up for Demario Davis, and yes, I think he physically might take a step back, but in like a similar capacity to Aaron Rodgers, you don't lose it between the ears. And that's why somebody like Luke Kuechly was able to play at such a high level. I know he kind of had a abbreviated career, he retired a little early, but his mental and his willpower to work harder than the guy next to him, that's Demario Davis in spades to me.
So, Demario might be the biggest, most impactful signing of the offseason, but also the most impactful player on this entire defense, because he wanted to come here and play for AG.
He had a little bit of experience with AG. AG was a scout when him and Geno were were drafted here. A little bit of crossover in New Orleans as well. So, a ton of intersecting relationships he's bringing with him, they're bringing back with him, and I can't say enough good thing. Demario Davis, Nick, might actually be my favorite current Jet, even over a guy like Garrett Wilson. I just think what he means to the franchise is so it can't be overstated. I think Demario Davis is the answer to all of the the major, major problems on defense last year. So, DD is my number one. I will be purchasing a Demario Davis jersey that is probably signed.
>> You don't have ones from the last two times he was here?
>> No, I I wasn't like into jerseys as much as I am now back then and like if I did they'd probably be like a a China bootleg version of a jersey. So I think we need to do Demario proper justice and get like an actual like authenticated signed Demario jersey because I genuinely think he's my favorite player right now and everybody like oh you're crazy. It's got to be Garrett and I'm like yeah, he's a great jet and he says everything that you want him to say and sticks up for the team and the fans but Demario Davis man, he just gets it.
>> Yeah. And and I think Derek says well here I think we're going to surprise some people this year. I don't know about wins or losses but I feel like we're going to be competitive. And you know what? From where we've been competitive will be a massive jump.
Yeah. It's been a decade since we had a winning record.
>> Yeah, my my actor >> More than a decade. It was 2015. It's been more than a [ __ ] decade.
>> Yeah, my my actor name is is Ken. Can the Jets be competent? Can the Jets be average? Can the Jets be normal?
>> Yeah. I'm an if they if they stop the run then the pass rushing opportunities will be better. If they can run the ball, you know, I'm a if they I'm an if they guy.
Same thing, you know, just you know, we're we're on the same thing. There's a lot of questions with this team. Please don't anyone misinterpret my optimism for the position groups meaning that we're going to be dominating the NFL. I'm not there yet. Wait till mid-July. That's when that ship leaves the dock. But there there's a lot if you look at the position groups I think each and every one of you, even the most negative Jets fan can say, "Hey, we're adding talent."
That's a step in the right direction cuz there's been a lot of times where we haven't been able to put a 53-man roster together cuz we don't have the talent.
So if you start there with the talent coaching should be improved from last year. Now you have the talent. You have guys who can make plays. Listen, you throw a four-yard slant and the guy gets tackled or drops the ball, all right, you drew up the right play.
It was there. [clears throat] But now you throw that four-yard slant and that guy takes it the distance or turns it into a 36-yard gain cuz he turns up the outside, >> Yep.
>> that's the talent making a difference.
The talent can make a difference with this team. And I think if you look at the talent, you would be out of your mind to not be able to look in the mirror at yourself and say, "Hey, you know what? I know I'm a negative Jet fan, but there's talent here and we haven't had that." And if they put the ball out and Geno's completing 67 or 68% of his passes, >> Yep.
>> the talent is going to make something happen eventually.
Shout out to the big fellow with another super chat. What pisses me off is we are paying Sherwood like a high-level middle linebacker, but he needs a babysitter to be good.
Agreed.
>> Yep.
>> He did have an interesting quote at the at the podium. I don't know if you caught it, but when he spoke to the media, he said that there were times last year where Sherwood was looking around for a veteran to ask like, "Hey, what do we do when this happens?" And he realized he's like, "I'm going into my sixth year. I was in my fifth year saying I need veterans around me." He was somewhat admitting that he wasn't ready for, you know, the number one linebacker spot, but it also just showed a fifth-year player was one of the longest-tenured on the defense and he wasn't even that great, right? And that so much was put on his shoulders. So, I totally understand it. He does need a bit of a babysitter, but I also think he's just not cut out for the linebacker one role. He's more of a linebacker two.
>> Yeah. When Sherwood, if he doesn't have to think cuz he's not that experienced middle linebacker, and he can just run and tackle and chase down running backs and chase down the fast quarterbacks as a spy, I think that's his That's where you want him. That's where he can succeed. And that's what you do.
You find players One I always said this when I was a coach.
>> [snorts] >> The greatest skill set a coach can have is not just knowing his players' talents. It's knowing their weaknesses and how to mask them with the disguise in the scheme. If you have a kid who can't beat a guy, you got to figure out a way to let the others How does that kid You know what I mean? If you can't get off a block, all right, I want you eating up two guys now, so now that our linebackers can run free. If you're just going to be stalemating and dancing with them, now I can blitz behind that cuz I know that you're good enough to just stand there and and engage with somebody.
>> Mhm.
>> You have to be able to work around their weaknesses in order to have to help other people's strengths. And I think Demario Davis being there will do that. You will find a way to get Sherwood in the Hey, they're going to throw a swing pass here. You make sure you get out wide. Shift out another gap, so you're out there.
He'll have him lined up the right way.
So >> Yeah, and I also think going from Aaron >> teaching the legs, Demario's brain teaching Sherwood's legs and helping them, >> Yep.
>> that helps our defense as a whole.
>> Yeah, and also think the upgrade from Aaron Curry to Ben Bowling is monumental as well, because players did not like Aaron Curry uh last year. And I think this year with Ben Bowling coming over from Houston, where they had a pretty damn near elite linebacker room, I I do think that it's going to bode well for the players.
>> Agreed. Uh we have a shout-out from Lou B, who wants to start a whole other show right now, and says, "DT, who are the top 10 players on the team?"
>> I I made a quick list, and I don't hold me Don't hold me to this, because we're not in July yet and I want to see the best.
I tried to put them in order. Yeah, because Badlands tweet cuz Badlands tweeted like who are the best five players on the Jets right now. So I I took those five and I added on to it. So I'll say my 10 give you a second to write yours down but still number one player on the roster. I'm not stupid.
It's Garrett Wilson even though my favorite is DeMario Davis. I think Garrett is the number one player on the team. Minka at number two.
Membou at three.
Breece at four and then DeMario at five.
And then afterward you can kind of put these in any order but I have Olu at six, Gino at seven.
Phillips at eight.
Tipman at nine and AD Mitchell at 10.
So the full list is Garrett, Minka, Membou, Breece, DeMario, Olu, Gino, Phillips, Tipman, Mitchell.
Which I think is pretty good.
>> Yeah.
I'm I'm listening but I'm also processing right now. Give me a second.
Yeah, it's fine. I got nine.
>> Yeah. Unfortunately last year Sauce and Quinnen were top three players. They were probably the top two guys in in this list last year. So obviously they're not here so new names have to enter the fold but and I also don't like putting rookies on top 10 top 20 lists.
Like I'd rather them be a closer to the bottom because we haven't seen them yet.
But there's a case you can put Siddiq in the top 10 based on his potential but >> have done my list bro. I just why don't you let me do my list?
>> I'm I'm I'm I'm trying to fill up my roster right now. If Austin McNamara's not on your list, just play us out with Blitz BK.
>> No more specials on the show. I've I've been I've been talking [laughter] to this guy all night.
Uh all right.
Now, you have Wilson at number one. The way I'm doing this is not just on the Jets roster, but comparative to position around the league.
>> Okay, importance, yep.
>> Membou's number one.
>> Okay.
>> Membou has the best chance of this team to make an All-Pro. So, Membou will be our best player this year.
Garrett Wilson's number two.
Breece Hall's number three. Olu's number four.
Will McDonald is number five. Do not sleep on Will. He had four sacks in the Pittsburgh game. He had or had four sacks in Cleveland. He had a sack late in the Pittsburgh game. When we're playing competitive football, Will McDonald will be up there.
DeMario Davis is six.
Tavon Wilsons Sweat is seven. Cuz what he will do in the middle of this defense to allow everyone else to do what they do. When he's on, this defense will be dominant. When he has good games, we will win. I guarantee you.
Uh, eight is Joe Titman. Nine is Gino, and 10 is Kenyon Siddique. Now, did I leave Bailey off? Yes, I did leave Bailey off for now, but I promise you by the second quarter of Tennessee, we will be throwing a parade for David Bailey.
So, when he's got uh, Cam Ward on the ground time and time again that game, and we're like, "Holy [ __ ] we got an even better one." But, now we get to watch the rise. I'm not putting too much expectations on him. But, Siddique, in terms of his talent and his skill set, another one who's going to be tremendous.
>> Yeah.
>> I think I think I would >> he's put together a lot of guys, a lot of talent, and we're not used to seeing a lot of talent. We're not used to having guys that have a role. We've drafted players in the past and they're like, "Let's figure it out." No, they're drafting with intent. They're drafting with purpose. They're acquiring guys to fill a role in the scheme. So, I like the way that Mookie and AG are working together as scout and coach to build this.
>> Yeah, I I I I I want to amend my list already and put Will McDonald over Harrison Phillips. I was I was putting too much emphasis on Phillips as like a leader and a captain type. Yeah, yeah, I know. Lou B got me locked in already.
>> Lock it in. Screenshot his [ __ ] from before.
>> There it is. Um but yeah, no, that that's that's a very good list. I like that you have Siddique there. I'm glad I was able to mind read a little bit.
That's that father-son connection right there.
>> That's it. That's it. I love you, son.
>> [laughter] >> So, the fifth for me, the storyline and the thing to keep [snorts] an eye on is the Aaron Glenn evolution.
>> Yeah.
>> Which might be one of, if not, the most Besides for Gino's arm, the evolution of Aaron Glenn is a very important storyline to pay attention to.
Now, we've seen drips and drabs of it, right? We haven't seen him every day at the mic.
We saw him at the owners' meetings while Mike Vrabel and Diana Russini were doing he was talking to the media and he was handling it better than he did in year one. There was an evolution there. Now, there was a self-assessment in January.
There was the firing of coaches up until championship weekend, the Friday of championship weekend. We were still getting rid of coaches and not retaining them.
>> Yep.
>> I'm not I don't want to say that.
When I look at Aaron Glenn, I'm someone who's a big believer in self-assessment, accountability, and adaptability. And when I look at Aaron Glenn, I see him doing these things from year one to year two. Now, does that equate to being a better game manager, making better decisions, or knowing how far a field goal is? We'll see. But, he's checking boxes in terms of demeanor, in terms of arrogance has been checked at the [ __ ] door. We don't have that anymore.
I think that Aaron Glenn got humbled by what happened to his team last year. I think that Aaron Glenn hears the media and the fans and knows that his job was being called for.
Now with Aaron Glenn, just focus on coaching.
>> Yep.
>> Don't be combative. You've seen it. He's no more Cimeini [ __ ] right? You last year every time Cimeini asked a question, it was a slick ass [ __ ] I can't stand you type of response. You don't see that this year.
He's handling the media better, which means to me he's handling himself better. And if you have that poise, that should lead to you coaching better because you're not trying to take on the world, you're trying to handle the task at hand. So, I'm looking forward to see how he behaves with the media >> Mhm.
>> and what he's like on the field. How do you handle head coach, defensive coordinator, overseeing the offense, overseeing the specials.
That's why I believe he brought in Frank Reich who he can lean on >> Mhm.
>> as an offensive coach to handle the offense because you have that experience and you've been there for a long time.
I don't have to worry about the offense.
You just tell me in the meeting what you're going to do and I trust you to go do it. Allows him and Douker to spend more time with the D.
#D'Andre Swift so I I think AG's evolution is one of the biggest story lines to follow because if we don't have a head coach and we have to go through that drama and we have to terminate a coach mid-season, it's going to be here we go again. It's the [ __ ] expression that I will never say, but you all know same yeah yeah yeah.
>> Yeah yeah yeah.
>> So, that's to me is so important for the Jets.
>> Yeah. No, I I agree. His second year is going to be so key to does he get a third year? Is he here for six to eight years, right? Like is he the guy until he decides to hang it up like Mike Tomlin style? Like this year is going to give us a ton of answers into whether he is the guy for the long term or not and >> Yeah.
>> I think even like the most optimistic AG fans still understand the gravity of the situation. The players inside the building know the gravity of the situation. They know he's playing for his job. They know that they have to perform not just for themselves, but also for him to stick around as the coach. So I liked a lot of the things you said.
He's humbled, less combative, he has better poise. It is a completely flipped 180 version of AG from last year >> Yeah.
>> where it did feel like he came in and he was like I have to prove to everybody that I'm not like Robert Saleh and he did so many things like the opposite of how Saleh did it >> Yeah.
>> it almost like blinded him from what the real task was and that's coaching the Jets out of the basement of the AFC East into relevancy in the conference, in the division by like let's not go 0 and 6 in the division, please. So I do think this year's going to answer a ton of questions on the I guess legacy of Aaron Glenn the coach.
>> Absolutely. Now, before I let you go um since uh my adopted son here DT we're spending Father's Day together.
>> Ah, yes.
>> Cisco created a few things.
>> Yes.
>> Uh father-son Jets, how to suffer like a real Jets fan.
Yes, Dad. I've heard this every year.
Sit down, classes in session in session.
>> [laughter] >> Happy Father's Day from the Nick Shine Show.
Fantastic. He He made a few of these. He fired them off.
>> I love this. Yeah, he sent them all to me. I was getting distracted. This one might be my favorite.
>> [laughter] >> Back in my day we walked to school and home and it was uphill both ways in the snow barefoot.
>> [laughter] >> We Back in my day we watched Ken O'Brien. Dylan was color TV invented yet?
>> [laughter] >> Here's one. Age 10. Age 10.
Nice.
Screenshot these folks. This way you can go back and look at all the detail and all the commentary. I don't want you to miss it.
>> This is elite. Next generation. I'm learning from the best.
>> [laughter] >> To the world's greatest Jets dad. Sorry about the last 55 seasons. Happy Father's Day Nick and Dylan. [laughter] >> I feel like this is a perfect face for for 55 years of suffering. This is This is A+ work by Siska.
>> Family road trip Super Bowl or bust.
>> [laughter] >> I would like to say when we do make it to the Super Bowl I would like to hope that I have a a seat in Lou B's Sprinter.
>> Yeah, and I promise that will not be my face if we are driving to the Super Bowl. I will be much more cheery.
>> [laughter] >> Estimated arrival year 2075.
Oh my gosh, that was a great little added detail.
>> Yeah. Oh, Derek, don't worry. After all of these will be uploaded to the Discord in in the creation section. We wanted to get them on air first.
>> Next exit maybe next year.
>> [laughter] >> Good stuff, Siska. Good stuff. He made like a dozen of these. Go go go.
>> I got I got the Nick Shine biceps going on over here. Look at this. I dude, I wish.
Oh, what is What is this bicep to forearm ratio we got over here?
>> [laughter] >> Billy Madison graduation. you did it, son.
Very good.
>> Survived Zach Wilson.
>> [laughter] >> No Kenny O'Brien.
>> Oh, little bedtime story story time with Professor Nick.
>> Oh my god.
>> See what I'm going to have to do since I'm old and I can't see anymore.
>> freedom.
>> I'm going to have He sent them to me, but I'm going to have to zoom in and like pan around and to get all the little fine details of it.
>> This is This is amazing.
>> And here we go. David Oh, that's that Look at us. We're all the richest.
>> Oh, we're shredded. We're shredded.
We're ready to win that Speedo competition in Atlantic City.
>> That's [clears throat] Listen, the only battle for that is who's coming in second.
>> [laughter] >> Nice. Well done, Cisco. Again, if you are in the Nick Shine Discord, that will be in there. And we have an announcement to make. Dylan, I know you have some training to do.
Make me proud, my son. Any clothing Any clothing thoughts?
Now that I'm wearing a sleeveless shirt, any closing thoughts?
>> Uh clothing thoughts?
Um I think we need less.
Less garments up top next show.
>> I I can't go less than this. I might go a tank top, but I don't have a jet tank top.
>> What's the reverse of a crop top? I need a sleeveless reverse crop top to hide the belly but show the show the chest.
>> Let's go make the picture.
>> [laughter] >> It's going to be like a spaghetti strap come across under the arm.
>> bro. Yeah, I don't want anyone coming across me. I'm good.
>> [laughter] >> #recency >> Yes, hashtag that is. Actually, she never said that. She said the more the merrier.
>> Oh my goodness. Oh boy.
Uh closing closing thoughts? Um this is a great show. Nick always enjoy time with you. I I honestly wish I didn't have to get off and study, but I need to finish this course by the week of July 4th and it's 120 hours. So I am putting I think I took 25 pages of notes in three sections. So we are we're certainly on our way to learning how to inspect homes. So I appreciate you Nick as always chat. You guys are A1. I I think this chat was one of the better chats we've ever had.
>> They were great.
>> And and shout out Cisco. Shout out Cisco for all those graphics sending them to me.
>> Nick Shine show producer is Cisco Lopez.
Like say correctly.
>> Let's get the title right there dumbass.
>> Yeah.
>> He sent he sent me the pictures individually and I'm sitting there laughing my ass off in my head. I'm like I hope Nick knows that I'm looking at these but I am still listening but I was like zooming in and reading all the things he >> laughing at my takes at one point. I'm like what the [ __ ] man? I'm like I'm on fire right now.
>> [laughter] >> No you were No you your takes your takes were getting the people fired up. So Nick as always >> we do here.
>> Yeah. I appreciate >> going to tell you how great it can be if everything hits cuz that's where I'm at as a fan right now and I want to bring you on the journey with me on the Nick Shine show. So I'm going to tell you if everything hits how great it can be.
Will it all hit? No. I'm not delusional.
But I will discuss the positions and overall how great it can be and that's what you're going to get here on the show. I'm not going to sit here and say I'm going to wait to see what happens.
I'm going to project what it could be like if it's at its best cuz one day even if only for three quarters it will be at its best.
>> 100%. I am I'm glad that this was the way we kicked off Ken O'Brien week and I am ready to go study up on Nick's best New York Jets passer in Ken O'Brien. I'm I'm ready to fire up all the YouTube highlights like Cisco said in the in the meme.
>> [laughter] >> Yeah, there's there's a ton and if you guys haven't already I don't know where you've been but welcome from coming out from under the rock that you live in. I just shared Dylan Tereman's YouTube page. [clears throat] Go subscribe, show him some love, and what do you got coming up show-wise?
>> Yeah, I got I I have the OTA recap. I just have to edit it down. So, that'll probably be hitting the feed tomorrow morning. I know it's a bit late, but then we're starting the summer ranking series. So, I'm going to go through, rank the positions on the Jets, then I'm going to open it up to the AFC East.
I'll rank all the positions for all the teams in the division, stack them up, and say who has the best roster on paper. So, lots to look forward to on the channel, and then we have a little bit of a break. I think July 28th they come back for camp. So, >> this year. Couple years ago they had the Hall of Fame game, and I think they started like the 18th. It depends where Labor Day is, too, right? Like if if Labor Day is the first or second, but Labor Day is like the latest it can be this year, which kicks it to like the 13th for opening day. So, it's like the latest you can have an opening day in the NFL.
>> Yeah, and I will continue to disappoint Peter Castro and not stick to football, and there will be some some golf shorts coming out on the channel as well as I >> can ride a scooter, you can hit a goddamn golf ball.
>> Yeah. Amen. Amen.
>> There's There's you go. That's your rebuttal. I'll help you out, son. I'll fight your battles for you when you can't.
>> Thanks, Dad.
>> I'll go I'll go knock on Peter's door and give him a good stern talking to.
>> [laughter] >> You got to do the finger shake.
>> Don't you talk to my boy like that.
>> Hell yeah. Hell yeah. So, Nick, I appreciate it. Chat, I appreciate you all, and uh until next time. Thanks, Nick.
>> All right. Awesome, man. Thank you.
Always a pleasure talking ball with you, and uh we'll we'll do it more. Don't worry. And we we Are we going to announce now for the season? Like we are going to try to if our schedules align, we're going to do some game casts. We tried doing it last year.
>> Yeah. We We can definitely run back the preseason and then neither one of us really wanted to get on. I did the first 2 weeks, and then it was like nothing after that. So, we can run back the the preseason for sure, and TBD on the regular season, but yeah, we'll we'll get at least one. We'll We'll get at least one.
>> Preseason's definite because I work till 5:00 and then the games are at 7:00 on Friday. All three preseason games are Friday nights, so I'm not going to try to rush up to the stadium. I'll just I'll just do a stream, so we'll get together for the preseason and and we'll see where it goes from there.
So, preseason Jets football, ladies and gentlemen, >> Hell yeah.
>> right here, Nick Shine, DT, father and son.
It'll be a good time. Dylan, get your work done, son. Make me proud.
>> I appreciate it, man. Happy Father's Day to everybody once again.
>> Thanks, man.
>> Take care, guys.

>> [music] [music] [music] [singing] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] >> Shout out to Cisco for gifting another five channel memberships, ladies and gentlemen. Cisco's five went to M123, Deion, Joe the Jet G, Jeffrey R, and Earl Campbell.
One of the greatest running backs in NFL history.
Thank you, Cisco. You know what that means.
>> Here we go, baby.
>> J E T >> [laughter] >> S JETS JETS JETS [screaming] JETS GO, BABY.
AND TWISTED SAYS, "NICK, I have something that's been bothering me a bit. Have time for a question." Uh yes, I do, but I would choose your question more carefully next time. You already asked a question, so that's it.
No more questions.
Yes, Twisted, go ahead. Fire away. If I I'm looking in the chat to see if I got it. Uh again, I know Derek and others, Black Gypsy, you guys were asking about the calling link. It is in the lobby for tonight's show of the Discord. Discord members, it's your time to shine.
Go in there, hit that link, join the program, but until then, until we get some callers, we'll ask you Jets-related questions.
And let me add Cisco into the raffle for tonight >> [clears throat] >> for 10 more. Thank you, Cisco. You're the man, bro.
Oh, ladies and gentlemen, we have a caller.
A baller.
A legend. An icon.
Will he behave?
I hope he doesn't shave. It's Charles Gorman, ladies and gentlemen. Charles, >> doesn't shave. I shaved a few days ago, but I'm doing good, my friend. I just came back from my parents. Had a great time.
Uh we had chocolate mousse cake for dessert. Mhm, mhm, mhm, was it good?
>> Uh, as for my judge related questions, um Now, last time when we talked about, you know, David Bailey and Will McDonald being utilized another by uh Oh, sh- okay, but I call Dunbar. I specifically said that I well, I do think he can but now I I'm going all over the place, I'm sorry.
Well, I do think he can utilize Will McDonald very well. I think he's going to have a lot more fun with David Bailey because of his repertoire because of his success in college, not just in Texas Tech, but even during his years at State, you know, David Bailey was a very good player before he got in the Texas Tech. Yeah. Obviously, Texas Tech was his breakout season where he, along with what was it? The one of the other guys at Eastern Michigan or something where they he led the nation in sacks with 14 and a half, which is impressive.
But you know, I think Carl Dunbar is going to have a lot of fun with David Bailey more so than the other guys. My question to you is in regard to I'm going to ask you about Monte Sweat.
Um >> Love him.
>> Montez Sweat, I I do you think you're from terms of talent perspective, you think he has the potential to be the best known stack that we've had since dare I say Chris Jenkins?
>> Easily. I mean, Snacks Harrison was really good.
Uh >> Yes.
>> But I think with running the 3-4 and with Phillips there and Briggs and others, I think that Sweat can really you know, when we had Harrison, you didn't have speed rushers. You had power rushers. You had Sheldon, you had Leonard Williams, you had Muhammad Wilkerson.
But now the speed that you have with Will and Bailey, if you're going to decide, okay, our left tackle can't block Will or Bailey, we're going to have to double, we're going to have to chip, we're going to have to take a guy out of the backfield, motion a guy in, we're going to have to account for one of your edge rushers.
That increases the chances of Briggs and Sweat and others having one-on-one matchups up the middle. And there was times where you see that a defensive lineman will throw an offensive lineman out of the way when he gets the right leverage. Sweat can do that. He's 366.
He can control the A gap and the B gap.
So, I I I think that we're going to see I I consider third and two, you know they're going to run, they got to run, and you stuff that run?
Man, that excites a fan base. That excites a football team. That excites the sideline. You stop their drive, they wanted to go to their best, and you stopped them?
Sweat's going to be the face of that.
He's going to be the face of stopping a team on fourth and one, stopping them on third and two. You try to run the ball up the middle on us, you better account for him. So, [clears throat] I think Sweat will be the face of the nastiness on this defense that we're going to have this year, Charles.
>> I I see that. I definitely do. That's all I have for That's all I have for today. Have fun with your show. God bless, my friend.
>> Charles, stay awesome, bro.
Ladies and gentlemen, I didn't even remove him. He He goes on his own. He It's basically I'm Commissioner Gordon, I blink, I turn, he's Batman, he's gone.
It's Charles Gordon, ladies and gentlemen.
Next up, I was hoping to see this guy this week, but it didn't work out. Now, I know he came up here for I don't know, I think it was some pride event. There was a big parade.
>> [laughter] >> What's going on, man?
>> I I hear you and something. I'm upset. I know it didn't work out. We were texting. I know it didn't work out, but >> Uh >> I had to bust your balls that you were up here and we didn't get to meet. So, that There. Now, we're good. I won't do it ever again.
>> Dude, if you just knew the story.
It went terrible. But the Knicks are the champions. So congratulations to them and congratulations to me for also being a champion now. But >> Listen, when she wins you win, man. And enjoy it.
>> It is, man. I'm so stoked for Nashville though. It's like now since the Nick stuff is out of the way, like you can now kind of just primarily focus on the Jets. And it's like I'm really excited cuz I feel like it's going to be a especially from the offensive side of the ball. I feel like it's we're at least going to get some form of entertainment this year.
>> Yeah. I mean, when you look at this offense and you look at the It all starts at the line, right? If you can't block, you can't do [ __ ] You know, I said this in Pop Warner. With my coach Pedro who ran the offense, I ran the defense. And we were like assistant head coaches together. We we ran it.
He had a line. If you don't block, you don't run. You don't block, you don't pass. You don't block, you don't score.
When we scored touchdowns, I would run backwards and go celebrate with the line while everyone was going celebrate in the kid who ran. Like that's my vision of football. I love the line. I love the D-line. I love the trenches because I feel if you can beat the ever-living [ __ ] out of someone offensively or defensively at the line, you can impose your will on them and you can take their heart. How many times have we had our heart taken because it's third and four and they just run it up the middle for six yards, first down.
Like I want to do that to teams. I want to be the bully.
>> And that and that kind of segues to the point that I that I wanted to kind of talk to you about. You know, just based off of how good I think the line can be and now with Gino coming in I think we all fully expect at least competent quarterback play. What is your expectations for Breece? Cuz for me I think this is going to be probably his biggest year since his rookie year prior to him getting injured. I feel like the last couple of years, especially with last year with quarterback play being pretty much non-existent, I feel like this is going to be the best season of his career so far that we're going to be able to see glimpses of what we saw prior to him getting injured.
>> I think we're going to see a lot of times he gashes the defense. I think that you're going to have to respect the weapons that we have, which will allow him to get through the hole, which we block well, and then beat a linebacker and gash and try to get a one-on-one with a safety and make him miss. I think you're going to see game-breaking plays. I think he's going to have a lot of runs over 20 yards, and we would have years and games where we didn't have a play of 20 yards. I think that the utilization [clears throat] in terms of the percentage and and the amount of touches he gets might be the same because you can spread the ball around and you can spread the running game around, but I think the average yards per carry will be the best he's had. I think that his touchdowns will be higher than he's had, and I think that overall, you're going to see Breece be one of many guys who step out into the forefront as a game-changer. And we've had so many questions and so many what-ifs.
I think the questions are done. I think it's just now Will McDonald, Bailey, the tight ends, AD Mitchell, Cooper, Breece, Brevin. There's so many guys are going to join and elevate Garrett Wilson as playmakers and game-changers. And we haven't been able to do that, man.
>> Yeah. I I 100% I I I think Breece Breece will be explosive. Breece will have a lot of ooh and ah plays like LT.
Like, remember LaDainian Tomlinson? When he would get out in the open field and you had one-on-one, you weren't [ __ ] tackling him. I think that with all of our weapons that are surrounded that Breece is surrounded by, you're going to see Breece get the ball in a one-on-one opportunity, shake and bake, and just [ __ ] dog somebody, and then and the place is going to erupt.
>> It's It's going to be interesting to see, man. I know that we've discussed this, you know, especially on Jake's show about week one being a must-win.
I really feel like, especially with Tennessee, you know, with the new coaching staff in and with everybody kind of just, you know, getting to a period where they're kind of acclimating to each other, I think that this is our best opportunity, especially too with week two, with with, you know, Green Bay, with them losing Dobbs and and we don't know what's going to go down with Josh Jacobs' status, and Micah Parsons sounding like he's going to be missing half the year. I think I'm not going to predict it, but I don't think it's impossible for the team to start 2 and 0.
>> I'm I'm going nuts. I'm saying we're 3 and 1 after four.
I think we start 2 and 0, and then we split with Chicago and Detroit. I think they just find a way to win. I think this team is going to be gritty. I think this team is going to have veteran leadership where when you're down, you're not out.
And when you have these weapons and you have the ability to score from anywhere on the field at any time with the speed that we have everywhere, we're going to do something called come-from-behind victories. Like, how many times have we been down 10 points, and you're like, "Eh, [ __ ] game's over. They got no chance." Like, it's it's 10-nothing in the first quarter. All right, honey, where are we going? What do we got to do? We got to go get uh we got to go get uh flowers for uh for fall for the front porch. Like, where are we going? What errands do we have to do? The game's over.
This game could be 24-14, and Jets have a chance, and then they can come back and win.
You know, we have the ability to do that, and we haven't had that, man, so there's a lot of things that we're going going this year, Kep, that we have not seen Jets teams do in a while.
>> It's going to come down and this is obvious. I feel like we all know this, but it's going to come down to two guys.
Geno and AG.
Right? That's what I feel like cuz I feel like from the supporting cast perspective, you know, with the weapons we have on the offensive side, and I feel like the defense at the very least is going to be respectable. I think that it's all going to come down, you know, the season's all going to come down on those two guys.
>> Yeah.
>> Listen, that's that's most important, right? We watched Belichick and Brady dominate for 20 years. So, we watched Reed and Mahomes dominate for, you know, several years.
>> Yeah.
>> It's it's comes down to that. Now, I'm not putting either one of those on that platform, but I'm just showing when you get A and B as all-time greats, you have a chance to be great every game, and you have a chance, so.
I don't know if AG will ever get to that level. I hope to God that he does, but I think as far as the Jets are concerned, not league-wide, we're going to see better football than we've seen in the last decade. I think that's a given. How it ties together and how the ball bounces and how health matters, it's going to be interesting to see how this plays out, but I think we're going to watch competitive football 15 out of 17 weeks, and I think that's that's a plus for where we've been.
>> Yeah. I don't know how many >> We've watched only two competitive games out of 17. Like to flip it to have 15 competitive, okay, I'll take that. What do we have? Three competitive Tampa was competitive.
>> Week one was competitive.
>> Buffalo game was competitive, Pittsburgh was competitive, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Atlanta.
Seven competitive out of 10 out of and 10 non-competitive.
Yeah, wasn't competitive. Like Dallas was over him. We we stat padded late in the game.
Buffalo games were competitive. New England wasn't. It was a blowout game.
>> Miami.
Miami the first game, that was competitive.
>> Yeah. Yeah, down in Miami.
Yeah. I think we're going to be more competitive this year. And that can lead to hey, the ball bounces your way.
A guy on their team misses a tackle. We make the interception. The interception, he's talking crazy. But you know, I think we're going to be able to change some games with our players that we have and and we haven't been able to do that.
We've been a [ __ ] doormat for the last decade.
>> Yeah. Yeah, I feel like I feel like every single team in the division has some form of a question mark. Now, I'm not saying we're going to win the division or anything like that, but I feel like it's going to be a lot different this year than it was last year, especially with you know, with the state that the Dolphins are in and we don't know what's going to you would naturally expect the Florida >> Florida. Made of Florida?
>> Yeah.
You would naturally >> It's from Boogie Nights. California.
You've seen them in California. It's the state of California. I know where I am, Jack. Like Boogie Nights is one of my favorite movies to quote and that reminded me of that.
>> That is a phenomenal film. So, um this is going to be an out of the box question cuz I remember I remember Dream brought this suggestion as a guest before and it got my mind thinking of like just out of like weird Jets guests, who would I potentially want to hear interviewed?
Well, when we uh when we reaching out to Adam Gase, man?
>> My days of doing drugs are over, so I'm not reaching out to Adam Gase.
>> [laughter] >> When he did the press conference, I would have been like, oh man, I know what that face is. Let's get together.
But now, I'm good.
>> All right, guys.
>> He he won't do any Jets stuff, man. He He was fired. He's He won't.
There's not a paycheck big enough for him to do a Jets show and I I have that that ability to cut that, but he's I I get what you're saying, but I know with the dream set, but yeah, Adam Gase is not doing any jet content.
>> He said Cote, I said who's my version of Cote, and it would be Adam Gase.
>> Yeah, I mean it was And it's amazing that he won seven games one year with an awful cast of weapons for Sam Darnold, and we had three games in a row where we scored 34 points. The Giants, the Raiders, and the Redskins.
The giant game was the one where Jamal stripped the quarterback, took it, and went back in, and it's like, holy [ __ ] we're playing great football. And that was the peak of the Adam Gase era was that that 14 days.
>> That was such a terrible. I remember the exact moment that we hired him. I was working maintenance at a hospital, and I got the notification, and I legit fell to my knees cuz I was just like, that is 2 years of football that is just going to be completely meaningless and and going down the drain. But But >> Do you know that Peyton Manning will not take an interview about referring Adam Gase?
>> Is that for real?
>> I've heard that Peyton Manning will tell you like, I'm not taking any questions about that. He called He talked to the Johnsons and said that he referred Gase and it would be a great hire. I had him in Denver and he's great.
And that's why the Jets hired him off of Peyton Manning's referral, but Peyton Manning will hang up on you if you bring that up in an interview.
>> This guy, man.
>> It's the New York Jets, baby. Find them different ways to lower the bar. That's why we got to start We got to start pushing upward and raising the bar.
>> Yeah.
>> But I'm looking forward to Nashville, man. Like you said, basketball's over now. The World Cup is going on. That will keep us occupied for the next couple weeks, and then before you know it, it's July 28th.
Camp starts. We're doing daily shows at night on the days that they have practice, 6:00 p.m. on those nights, folks. Pay attention for that.
We'll do 6:00-6:30 depending on my work schedule.
And uh before you know it, it'll be at the airport handing in the boarding pass, flying out to Nashville, and uh it's every time I talk to someone or every time I go into a different chat, it's another person saying, "I'm in for Nashville. I'm in for Nashville."
There's a buzz around this team. There is an excitement to go see them. There is an excitement that we haven't had.
And we had it in the Rodgers year. And uh I think that this is the start of something really fun, Cat.
I really truly do. And nobody will convince me otherwise. I think all this young talent, watching them grow and develop together, and oh, but but but breaking news, we have three more ones next year.
In the best quarterback draft in a very long time, people are saying. So, it's We're not done, man. We're going to keep adding to this. This is just the beginning. Competitive football, find a way to win seven to nine games, be in the hunt after Thanksgiving, maybe get a tiebreaker that gets you into the wild card, and then you add another four of the top 50 picks next year, this team's going to be good. The talent will be there. If the coaching's not, everyone will be lining up to come and coach the Jets. So, I I'm not worried about that. If the talent is there, the coaches will show.
>> I 100% agree with you, man. But that's all I got for you, Nick.
>> Appreciate it, bro.
>> Good show, my man.
>> I'll see you soon. Before you know it, 84 days, I think someone said in the chat before. 84 days, bro.
It's 84 days ago like free agency started. 84 days from now, we'll all be together. Good times.
I'll talk to you soon, Pat.
All right. Before Cisco, this was from Twisted, said, "Nick, this team has come a long way this season. I'm worried about our head coach's ability to call the D. His best rank was 18th and it's been a few years. Okay.
So, the Nick Shine analysis on this and the Nick Shine's been and again, shout out to Tom Ace for the Mark Gastineau weightlifting poster. I told him he gave me this almost 2 years ago and I said I promise you one day it will be on the wall in the background. So, that's what that is. That's the Mark Gastineau poster.
All right. Nick Shine's been here.
Detroit Lions were in a lot of shootouts. Detroit Lions would score quick, fast from everywhere and then other teams would have to they'd be up.
They'd have a 40 to 10 lead sometimes and then late in the game you play it safe.
The other team gets a lot of yardage late.
Go look at that defense when it's opportunistic, when there's big moments and listen, when you have pass rushers that can change anything. You know, he dealt with a lot of injuries. The one year they went to that NFC Championship and he did a tremendous job of keeping that team together. I think Aaron Glenn is a great motivator and a leader and now you got the best leader in football on your defense. Bobby Wagner's not signed anywhere yet right now. So, I will say DeMario Davis is the best leader in football.
It's going to make a difference.
It is.
So, you know, the ranking might not be there, but that Detroit Lions team was scoring in three plays and then give the ball back to you and then yeah, the yardage matters. Now, situational football is what I'm looking at. I'm not looking at the defensive rank in terms of yardage, but how are you in third down? Are you getting off the field?
How are you in the red zone? Are you holding them to a field goal instead of a touchdown?
All of those things matter.
So, I think that you there are concerns, absolutely. Like it's not we're not bringing in Dick LeBeau, we're not bringing in Bill Belichick in his prime.
There's a lot of questions with AG. But I think the situational football is what's going to matter more than the yardage.
You know, nowadays with the NFL rules, everyone gets [clears throat] yardage.
All right, it says Demario Davis might be a good football player, but the age The age is concerning, but the brain is still there.
And if he can teach Sherwood and he can align everybody, even if he misses some plays and some tackles, it's it's definitely a uh a situation that I'm looking forward to.
It's a big big upgrade.
>> Why did that switch back? Jesus Christ.
Good call. Thank you for the text.
I don't know why that switched mid-show.
Oh, because I left StreamYard and came back in when I adjusted the camera. God damn it.
All right. We're back. Thank you, mystery texter. Who could it be? I don't know. But who's next on the Nick Shine Show?
New York, what up?
>> It was not me.
I That text was not from me.
>> I know.
>> I I do not text you in the middle of the show.
At any rate, um you know, I thought you were talking about me a minute ago cuz I heard you say the age is concerning, but then you said the brain is still there and I knew you were >> Oh, yeah. No, you're good.
>> Yeah. Uh >> [laughter] >> At at at anyways, um Dude, everything that you've been saying, like uh the the depth on the D-line, you know, not having to worry about a Clements or McGregor or or somebody like that and having guys like, you know, Aman Yada that, you know, are good that are proven vets.
Uh, you know, as well as the leadership that that all those guys bring. And Geno, for that matter, with the leadership. But, um, yeah, I think it's I think it's going to be really good. I think it's going to be a lot better than people think.
Um, 100%. You know, Geno Geno will get the ball out and he'll get the ball out on time. And, uh, and I'm telling you, uh, the the chemistry that he has with AD already and, you know, his style matches up well with what AD does well.
I'm looking for really big things and, um, listen, like right now, uh, they're saying that Will McDonald could maybe move to, you know, more of a just a pass-rushing role this year.
And >> Which is fine because we're going to be in games later in tighter games. And I'll I'll take Will McDonald fresh in the fourth quarter every single week cuz he's going to change the game. He did it last year in three games. The three games that two of the three we won. The other was the Pittsburgh game. But, Will McDonald was the face and the star of those games.
Allow him that opportunity on a weekly basis and let's see how great that kid can be. Which only helps Bailey on the other end, right, Rick?
>> Yes, absolutely. Absolutely. And, uh, yeah, that's fine with me. And, hey, honestly, I think that probably one of our better signings that that's going to prove to be like really sneaky good is going to be Joseph Ossai. I I think he's probably going to earn more playing time than people think. Uh, >> Agreed cuz I don't think you're going to have Will and Bailey out there together a lot.
So, I I think he's going to be your early down guy and I think you're going to use Bailey primarily as a pass rusher until he acclimates to the NFL and what it takes to be a run, but that's fine.
Like like Dunbar said, I'm [ __ ] pa- I didn't draft him at two to play the run.
We drafted him to go be an elite pass rusher. Let him go be an elite pass rusher. Use the other 11 guys on the other downs to get him in a situation where he can go do what he does best until he develops in year two or three. And I'm fine with that. You go get me 12 sacks as a rookie, I'll deal with you not playing first down. That's fine. I want you fresh on third.
>> Yeah. Yeah. Com- completely agree.
Completely agree and uh I think they're going to be able to do damage, you know?
Um a lot of our lack of interceptions and just everything last year, a lot of it was result not having any pass rush.
Uh you know, it's hard for those guys to cover forever back there and I think it's just going to help everything. And uh you know, our offense being better, we're we're going to be actually in games this year.
And uh that's going to make a big difference, too, you know? What when teams just can't run the ball on us late, that's going to make a huge difference.
And so, dude, I yeah, I'm I'm looking forward to all of this, you know? I'm really excited about the offense, you know?
Like I said, I think AD is going to have a really big year. Uh I I think he's like a perfect complement to Garrett and uh and then, you know, you got Cooper. If he's developing and and you got him in the slot, you know, his his YAC ability and and the way that he plays uh complements to two of them. Like we we've got just such a well-rounded group of weapons right now.
And um it it's nuts. Like, it you know what? I don't know if I've ever seen this many different like viable offensive weapons at once. I mean, we don't know for sure that AD's going to take take the step that I keep talking about and we don't really know what Cooper is yet, but if if Cooper turns out to be pretty good and AD hits, like, we've got a pretty nasty offense.
>> I agree but like I said, I keep saying this.
Geno Smith's average the last 4 years, if he's giving out 67 to 68% of his completions each week, these guys are going to be able to catch and run.
Geno will rewrite the Jet record book.
If he completes 68% or more of his passes, we're going to rewrite the Jet record book.
All right, Rick. No worries.
Ricky won't text during this challenge.
But, he'll take a call.
He started his call by saying that I won't text you during the show, but he took a call mid-call. I get it. Life happens. Listen, I'm I'm teasing. I'm busting balls like but I just thought that was little poetry in motion there.

Uh, Larry with a super chat says, "Nick, keep up the good work. Appreciate you, my friend. Thank you."
You're in tonight's raffle and for next week's raffle for two.
And then my buddy Joe who I mentioned earlier says, "Made my son's year shouting him out on your podcast, bro.
Love it." Shout out to uh, to both Joes watching right now.
