Operation Beaconport revealed that UK police routinely dropped investigations into child grooming and trafficking cases, resulting in thousands of victims being arrested and carrying permanent criminal records while predators walked free; a new government law to clear victims' names has been criticized as inadequate because it only pardons child prostitution convictions while leaving other crimes like assault and criminal damage on records, forcing survivors to manually appeal for justice.

UK: Operation Beaconport Exposes Systemic Police Failures
Added:are turning a blind eye to this.
The parents have gone to the police many, many times and nothing is being >> What if she doesn't come back?
>> That's right.
>> Yes.
>> Yes. EVERY TIME NO BEAUTIFULS.
>> [screaming] >> THOUSANDS OF CHILDREN HAVE BEEN GROOMED, [music] TRAFFICKED, and systematically abused in the UK.
But when many of them finally encountered the justice system, they weren't treated as a [music] victim needing rescue. They were arrested.
For thousands of young girls trapped in grooming networks, their trauma-driven behavior has been treated as a crime.
Today, [music] decades later, they're adults still carrying a permanent criminal record and able to work, volunteer at their children's schools, or even move forward with their lives.
Under Operation Beacon Point, independent investigators have exposed how vital lines of inquiry were routinely [music] dropped, allowing predators to walk free.
These first eight reopened cases are just [music] the beginning.
But while police are finally reviewing the errors, the government's legislative fix is facing a fierce backlash for leaving survivors completely stranded. A new law meant to clear victims' names has been branded a lazy option by Baroness Louise Casey.
It only pardons child prostitution. If a groomed child smashed a window to escape or even fought back against care home restraints, those convictions for criminal damage or assault stay on the record.
The current law also offers no automatic wipe, meaning exhausted survivors must manually appeal to clear their names.
While the Home Office points to its statutory independent inquiry into grooming gangs to hold authorities to account, survivors argue that true justice remains [music] agonizingly out of reach. Operation Beacon Point has highlighted a significant disparity in justice with over 1200 cases reviewed including 236 explicit allegations of rape [music] resulting in low number of formal charges and convictions. The situation leaves numerous suspects free while many victims continue to manage unlawful criminal records across the UK.
