This is good for Americans, expert says
Added:US Marine veteran, Lieutenant Colonel Mike Juriga. Colonel, thanks for your service to America. What's your reaction to this interim deal?
>> Hey, good evening, Liz. Uh you know, my reaction initially is optimism. You know, as a former American fighting man, any conversation that leads to a pause or a halt in fighting is good, you know, for Americans.
>> But, what do you make of Barack Obama slamming the deal when we haven't seen the details yet?
>> You know, that's a good point. We haven't seen the details. So, I I I don't know what's in the deal. Uh and so, I'm not really able to comment on some of these other people that may have seen the deal or not, but I I do think that it's um uh immature to be able to comment on a deal that we haven't seen details yet.
>> All right, Liz, let's get your reaction to Vice President J.D. Vance and Secretary of War Pete Hoekstra here.
Watch this.
>> My primary message to the American people is thank you. Because of your patience, I think that we've solved a problem that has plagued this country again for for well before I was even born, which is a terrorist-supporting Iran that was pursuing a nuclear weapon.
We are now at a place here where we can say with confidence they're not going to get a nuclear weapon.
>> The nuclear program will be dismantled.
The straits will be open, no tolling. Uh this is This is not a The JCPOA was a path to a bomb.
Uh what this deal will be will be a wall to a bomb. We're watching that material as we have this entire time. And any arrangement, as I said from the outset of the program, will be performance- and metrics-based. You'll have inspections, you'll have oversight, whether they're US, whether they're international, but it'll be a throttle set by the United States through our negotiators with the military and strength as the guarantor of this. If Iran does not want to comply, then they can deal with the War Department again.
>> You know, sir, the key here is the sentence we've been watching what Iran has been doing with its nuclear bomb material. What do you make of that? Can the Trump administration get the policing powers to oversee what Iran is doing with its nuclear bomb material and it sounds like they haven't watching what they've been doing.
>> Liz, I completely agree. I Anything the Iranians do is going to need to have some accountability on it and some you know, international observers, you know, including foreign media and journalists. But you know, people outside of China and Russia who have been buying and selling things from Russia. But I think that any type of a deal will have a true measure of accountability in it and I did like what the Secretary of War said is that this is a a wall to putting the Iran having a nuclear capability.
>> Okay, Colonel Mike Törnqvist. Thank you so much and thank you for your service to America. We appreciate you.
