Parliament to open a corruption case for Motoro Sports Ground upgrade

[00:00:01]Parliament's Portfolio Committee on Sports, Arts, Culture, and Recreation conducted an oversight visit at the stalled Motoro Sports Ground upgrade project. A total budget of 10 million rand was allocated to this project, co-funded through intergovernmental streams.

[00:00:19]A consultant from Albaco Consulting explains that 6 million rand has so far been used on the project.

[00:00:33]We we need to take into account that the 1.1 million from the 6.1 is for the extension of time.

[00:00:42]And then payment certificate number two of the 1.3 million session >> [clears throat] >> was um paid directly to the to the supplier of artificial turf.

[00:00:53]So, the 6.1 million that you see there it's not entirely the amount that was paid to the contractor for work done.

[00:01:01]>> The contractor, Unene Holdings, says the upgrade was meant to develop sports infrastructure for the benefit of the local community.

[00:01:11]>> We have evidence of of of base correction on the on the court. It's just that on the artificial turf on the soccer pitch because it's too huge you can't use a pull behind or a pull behind roller. You must bring the the big roller because you're going to spend a lot of time. So, those things are still going to happen.

[00:01:42]>> Mamusa Municipality, as the implementing agent, explained their role in the delay and the non-completion of the project.
